ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

HAPPY PRESIDENT'S DAY!

SHOP AT HOME GOES DARK
The Nashville, TN based home-shopping TV network struggles for a long time to make money for itself. In June 2006, Knoxville-based Jewelry Television buys the home-shopping TV network for $17 million from E.W. Scripps Company which attempts for years to make a profit. Jewelry Television cuts programming back from 24 hours a day to 13 hours in the evening and middle of the night. Shop at Home then focuses more on male viewers with hosts Tim Temple, Leah Little and Skip Connelly as they panhandle coins, knives and gemstones to collectors in 57 million households. But Shop at Home TV ranks #4 behind QVC, HSN and ShopNBC. So, the Shop at Home TV network signs off for good on March 7, 2008 which puts about 200 folks at the south Nashville office in the unemployment line. That's the bad news. Good news is that the Shop at Home Web site (
www.shopathometv.com) thrives as consumers migrate to online shopping. The Shop at Home Web site & call center operates out of its Nashville offices near the Hickory Hollow Mall.

VAN MORRISON (Brown Eyed Girl #10-1967, Domino #9-1970, Blue Money #23-1971) goes Country with a new CD Keep It Simple due out on March 11, 2008 on Universal Music's Lost Highway Records in Nashville, TN. Van writes 11 tunes just for this new album. In 2006, Morrison puts out Pay the Devil with several Country cover tunes on Lost Highway. In 2007, his greatest hits album Still on Top hits the streets. Morrison comes to life as George Ivan on August 31, 1945 in Belfast, Ireland. Originally, Van is lead singer of Rock group Them. He writes the Classic hit Gloria which lands on the Billboard dart board 4 times: Them (#93-1965), Shadows of Knight (#10-1966), again Them (#71-1966) and The Doors (#71-1984). Personally, I like all the versions of Gloria but the group Them's version hits the spot 10, 2 and 4. Can you name the soft drink with that slogan? A hint: It looks and tastes almost as good as Mr. Pibb. Them's other 2 charters stand the test of time: Here Comes the Night (#24-1965 & Mystic Eyes #33-1965). Those Oldies are always Goodies.

JETHRO TULL's Grammy Award winning 59 year old founder/lead singer/flutist/songwriter Ian Anderson receives the MBE for his services to the music industry from Queen Elizabeth II in her Majesty's annual New Year's honors list. Just in case you wonder, in descending order after Knighthood the honors are CBE, OBE and MBE which is Member of the British Empire. In its 40 year history since 1968, Jethro Tull performs 2789 concerts which is an average of 73 shows a year. Ian is quite a successful businessman, too. He invests in salmon farms. Anderson's Strathaird farm is worth £10.7 million before he starts to sell off parts of it. Singer Kylie Minogue accepts the OBE award from Queen Elizabeth II. The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry that King George V establishes on June 4, 1917. The Order includes 5 classes in civil and military divisions. In decreasing order of seniority they are: Knight Grand Cross or Dame Grand Cross (GBE), Knight Commander (KBE) or Dame Commander (DBE), Commander (CBE), Officer (OBE) and Member (MBE).

COLONEL ST. JAMES (Houston, TX) Hey Jim, How great it is to hear from you! I've really been enjoying the newsletter. It's great to see all those names from my past are still alive and well. I was off the air for a while with the crud that's been going around, but now I'm back hanging in at The Arrow playing the Classic Rock. I'm so glad you got a chance to check out the website. I really need to add a few new things. Maybe that can be kind of a late New Year's resolution. Ya think? I'm also happy that you liked my Border Collies. They truly are a joy. So smart! Too smart sometimes, but I love 'em!! Sounds like Tejas is a real gem, too. Akitas are really magnificent. I'd like to meet her (and you) face to face sometime. You're lucky to have her, but then again she's lucky to have you. Anyway, please keep the newsletter coming. It's always a lot of fun to read. And thanks again for writing. I'll talk to you later. Colonel

WAYNE WARNER (Springfield, MO) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#465-42) February 15, 2008 [Friday] Jim, the new website looks great, easier to read for us older folks. Keep up the good work. Wayne Warner, Springfield, MO

GARY DELAUNE (San Antonio, TX) It is a slick looking web site and it shows what determination, dedication and your perserverance can do. It is probably the best media information site I've seen. Keep up the good work and if you need a subscription fee, I'm happy to send one. I hope you have been able to read my blogs on MySA.com...a lot about the old ABA and Houston Mavericks. Gary DeLaune

GARY ALLYN (San Diego, CA) Well, Jim...it was worth the wait. The JRRR site looks great, and is now on my Radio "Favorites". Look forward to sending more from my end. All the Best, and keep on pushin'. Quite an improvement. Gary Allyn (
www.gallyn.com)

ROD TANNER (Houston, TX) Jim, congrats on the new web site. Looks great. Keep up the good work. Rod Tanner

MIKE HARTMAN (Ft. Worth-Joshua, TX) Hey, Jim...Congratulations! Your new Web site is great! Thank you for all the effort and hard work you do to keep us informed...and for allowing us to express our opinions. God bless America...and God, please...have your guiding hand in this election. And God bless you, Jim, and Tejas. MIKE

DAVID PERKINS (Ft. Worth, TX) Hey, Jim. Not to worry about not getting it in this time. When ever you can. I appreciate all you do for me. I forgot to ask the other day if Tejas had watched the Westminster Dog Show and see Uno, the beagle, win? Ah, a victory for all "normal" dogs (like Tejas and my two pooches.) The Fort Worth Star-Telegram emailed me and wanted to know if I'd do an interview with them for a "short feature" in next Saturday's edition (2/23) You bet, I said. I always want to go from the angle of old DJ makes good, sorta like the piano player in the whorehouse turns out ok, after all. Love, David Perkins The Jesus Christ Said Ministries (
www.JesusChristSaid.com)

BLAKE LINDSAY (Dallas, TX) I know it takes getting used to, and you will do fine Jim. I'm glad you are taking all the right steps, and putting your positive energy into this project. Your Friend, Blake, Blazin' Blake Productions: Where hearing is Believing! (
www.blazinblake.com) 214-207-6972

BUD BUSCHARDT (Dallas, TX) Jim, I received the newsletter OK today at the sbcglobal address. Received yesterday's letter at the UNT address so both seem to be working now. New format looks great. Congratulations. The hard work has paid off! Bud

JOE NASTY (San Antonio, TX) Thank you for all that you do. History is one on the things that I want to be a part of. Blake Lindsey, Billy Thorman, Sonny Melendrez, Art Garza. I used to listen to Jimmy Rabbit on winter trips from Arizona to Florida...and the beat goes on.

SONNY MELENDREZ (San Antonio, TX) Born Standing Up - A Comic's Life, by comedian Steve Martin, is a warm and very funny account of Steve's rise and free-fall as a stand up comedian. It is a colorful chronicle of, as Steve puts it, "The War Years" that gives us an rare insight into the life of this talented and sensitive writer/performer. On a personal note, I am extremely flattered that he chose to end this memoir with a story of his appearance on my show at KMPC Radio in Los Angeles. Listen to Steve's words at: www.sonnyradio.com/bornstandingup.com

JIMMY RABBITT (Grand Junction, CO) "The e-RR Radio Show" Saturday & Sunday afternoons 1-4pm MST on http://
JJRadio.com, "Rabbitt's Rockin' Blues Lab" Tuesdays 1-4pm MST on http://KAFMradio.org. "The Rabbitt Report" is also heard on Super CFL.

DAVE MICHAELS (San Diego,CA) Jim..."You are right on about John McCain"...100%. He is no friend to the American Way Of Life. Dave Michaels

TEDDY ROOSEVELT (1858-1919) We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language.
