ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

GOOD MORNING EVERYBODY!
To hear the same greeting over and over to everybody by supposed professional cable TV newscasters drives us viewers up the wall. This vexes me for years but I hear it again this morning and want to mention a few words about what creeps into our news broadcasts in the last few years. When I hear that Good Morning Everybody! or Hi Everybody it causes me to look around the living room for those everybodys. There is no everybodys who watch the TV inside this apartment. First of all, TEJAS girl is sound asleep in the kitchen and I sit all alone on the sofa. There is no everybody here only one lone body. Please bring back the legendary JOE LONG to get these new news broadcasters straightened out on who really is in their audience. Can I hear an Amen?

JIM CAROLA (Houston, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#467-50) February 20, 2008 [Wednesday] Jim...Sorry to hear about the passing of my friend Bill Weaver...He was my GM at KILT when I began my 40 year hitch at that station in the early 60's. Bill was truly an icon who became a regular the past couple of years at the luncheons a bunch of us radio and tv oldtimers have from time to time...just to get together...tell some great stories and laugh a lot!! We will miss him greatly!! Jim Carola

JAY WEAVER (D/FW Metroplex-Hurst, TX) Subject: Morgan Choat. Hi Jim - I recently had the pleasure to spend part of an afternoon with my friend Morgan Choat. Morgan is another of the older radio personalities who has been able to "hold on" as long as HE wanted to in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex radio! I first worked with Morgan at KCUL 1540 AM in Fort Worth back in 1965. When I came on board at KCUL, Morgan had already been there for nine years, since 1957, and had been the Chief Engineer for Kurt Meer. Meer had told Morgan that if he would get his First Class License, he could guarantee him a job with the station. I stayed at KCUL and later, under new call letters KBUY until 1972. When I left Morgan was still doing the all night show. Morgan stayed with KBUY until the end in 1976. From KBUY, Morgan worked at several stations in the Dallas-Fort Worth that, at the time, had country music formats. He was at KJIM at a point in time, when it was owned by Kurt Meer and was Program Director during his stay there. Later he went on to KXOL when it became country in format. He also spent time at KYAL in McKinney and KBEC in Waxahachie. Morgan then became ill and spent a little time away from radio, but was soon back. He ended up in Cleburne at KCLE 1120 AM and also worked at KTFW 92.1 FM. Most recently he moved around between KTFW 92.1 FM, KCLE 1120 AM, KHFX 1460 AM and KJZA 1140 AM. His last position was again at KCLE 1120 AM. He left KCLE in June of 2007 because they had decided to change formats to gospel music. Morgan always played country. What you have just read was a 50 - that's right 50 year career in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex radio from 1957 to 2007!! When Morgan left KCLE, he had turned 80 years of age!! Unbelievable!! I thought you might enjoy Morgan's story and, in fact, you probably had met Morgan sometime through the years.

DR. CHARLES PAYNE (Dallas, TX) Jim---With my more than 50 years in the business...I've met some outstanding people. George Carlin was one of the finest. He came to my home in Marin County (North of San Francisco) What a delightful session. He appeared at the "Hungry Eye"...but before that he was anncr at KXOL FTW. Didja know that? Stick with me. CPBIGD

GEORGE CARLIN is a night DJ on KXOL-1360 and his newscaster Jack Burns (1959) is the guy who replaces Don Knotts' deputy Barney Fife character on the Andy Griffith TV show. Jack's character is deputy Warren Ferguson. The KXOL manager fires George because he says Carlin's humor is above the listeners' heads. Boy is he ever wrong!

RICK UPTON (San Antonio, TX)
Subject: Re: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#466-45) February 18, 2008 [Monday] Jim, The Web Site looks great. May be a little too fancy for us old radio folk. Kidding of course. Keep up the great work. It's nice to hear from old friends. Rick Upton, Director of New Business Development, Fox 29/MY 35 San Antonio, Office: (210) 377-4733 Cell: (210) 381-7000 Fax: (210) 442-6351

MIKE SHANNON (Dallas-Mesquite, TX) Great job on the site, Jim! Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Did want to remind folks that we're doing the first DFW radio "Lunch Bunch" of the year in a couple of weeks, on Friday February 29 at Boston's Pizza, MacArthur and LBJ in Irving. We'll gather around 12:30PM. Email me at
shannon914@wans.net for all the details. Thanks! Mike Shannon (www.knus99.com)

FR. BOB TOMLINSON (Ft. Worth, TX) It should be a good weekend, I’m flying out tomorrow to spend the weekend with my son and his family in southern California. He’s in the mountains and they are expecting snow tonight. This will be the first time I’ve seen the two youngest granddaughters. I’ll be baptizing them as well. A wonderful weekend to you and Tejas as well. Bob

DAVID PERKINS (Ft. Worth, TX) Jimbo, your website looks great! It has that professional, slick look to it. Good job. Can you believe I'm about to celebrate my 1st year on the air with my ministry? Went on the air last February 18th, 2007. Wow, what a fantastic year! I'd like to play more music but my wife and I fund our program and 30 minutes a week is all we can afford. Help, anyone? The Jesus Christ Said radio ministry is on the radio (KKGM/1630 am in Dallas/Fort Worth) Sunday afternoon at 12:30 pm Central Time. If you, or any of your readers want to request a religious song, please do so. If you're not in the DFW area you can listen live on the internet at
www.KKGMam.Com. You can also go to our website www.JesusChristSaid.Com and listen to past sermons. Love, David Perkins, The Jesus Christ Said Ministries

RONALD REAGAN (February 6, 1911-June 5, 2004) Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged.
