BLAKE LINDSAY-BOOK AUTHOR
A young man who climbs the radio ladder of success in San Antonio and Dallas, TX writes a book about how it is to be what he calls a sightless person. Ironically the title of Blake's book is Out of Sight Living: A Sightless Person With Perfect Vision. The reviews that I read give Lindsay's book high marks of approval. It is an insightful piece of literature that opens our eyes to what some folks might call a handicap. Billy Thorman, PD of Waterman Broadcasting KTFM FM (at the time Hot 102.7) San Antonio, TX gives him the opportunity of a lifetime to be behind the radio mic. Blake remembers, My longtime friend and program director, Bill Thorman, didn't allow my lack of sight to be impairing. He gave me my first full-time opportunity in radio broadcasting at the number one rated KTFM-FM (then Hot 102.7) San Antonio. Bill's gamble on me made both of us winners. Blake's praises glow about encouragers along the way like Rick Upton of KABB-TV who urges him to do all of the things we sighted DJ's do, like appearances at live remotes and introduction of bands at concerts. Blake is like a powerful rocket ship to Mars. Nothing holds him down, plus he has a wonderful sense of humor and is a nice fella. Blake Lindsay and his lovely wife Jennifer live in the Dallas, TX suburb of Addison. Salute!

EMAILS YES WE HAVE EMAIL

MARY LYNN KNOCHELMAN (Cincinnati, OH) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#468-49) February 22, 2008 [Friday] I sent an email to you directly Jim Rose, but under movers & shakers you are wrong that Andy Furman says his radio career is over. He did say that, but now he's back on the radio on Oldies 1160 WDJ0-AM in Cincinnati.

BLAKE LINDSAY (Dallas-Addison, TX) Subject: Hello Jim! Even from the view, of a totally blind dude like me, your site, looks nice, and completely professional as I would expect from Jim Rose. Your first-rate work, deserves this first-rate website to follow through. Good for you! I still enjoy all three of your columns each week Jim. Please don't retire for another fifty years or so. Your Grateful Friend, Blake Lindsay, Blazin' Blake Productions: Where hearing is Believing! (

RICK UPTON (San Antonio, TX) Just remember Jim that; It is the People behind the mic, that make the radio stations legendary, not the corporations that own them and pass them along. Rick Upton, Director of New Business Development, Fox 29/MY 35 San Antonio

FRANK HALEY (Albuquerque, NM) Subject: Requesting prayer...please pray for my friend Bob Morrison ND for the USA Radio Network, they were sold. Frank Haley cjf

JOE FORD (Houston-Spring, TX) ...buddy, I'm at the point where I quit listening to radio. Nothing but horrid programming, lame jocks, coupled with pathetic local giggling and babbling on the morning shows. As far as the telly, forget it! Smiling hard line lefty reporters drooling over the candidates that are forced upon us...founding fathers are rolling and tumbling by now! Thank God for iPods and The History Channel!

DR. JEFF CUNNINGHAM (Austin-Kyle, TX)
Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#468-40) February 22, 2008 [Friday] You got an Amen from me. Be sure and tell that to "everybody". Jeff Cunningham, DC

DAVE LANE (Nashville, TN) Subject: Funniest Thing That Ever Happened. About the funniest thing that happened in my 48 years in radio was the 10 years that I spent at KQUE (Houston,TX) without once being fired, until 1997....when I was fired. Other than that, it's been a really boring life. Dave Lane, Cashbox Magazine Radio Program Director, Nashville Country Countdown (

JOHN FLETCHER (DFW Metroplex-Hurst, TX) Jim: Here's the correction on George Carlin at KXOL. My father, Earle Fletcher, was the GM. He felt George was stretched too thin by doing his air shift in the evenings and then doing comedy at The Cellar night club in West Fort Worth. Dad called George for a meeting and said, "Hoss (Dad called everybody "Hoss"), you don't have the time to be great at both radio and night club comedy. You've got to make a choice." Dad knew George would choose radio, and he was absolutely shocked with he said, "You're right, boss. I quit. I'm going to do comedy." Dad said, "No, that's not what I meant. You need to stay here and give up the night club comedy." George took KXOL newsman Jack Burns with him and they did comedy together. Within 10 months they made the Jack Paar Show and the rest is history. George went on his own and Jack teamed with Avery Schreiber to form the Burns & Schreiber comedy team. George Carlin was one of Dad's favorites, and he regretted seeing him leave. He never thought George would choose comedy over radio, or he never would have put him in that position. Jim: You and Tejas have a great weekend! John Fletcher, Hurst, TX

GEORGE CARLIN (1937-present) "No comment" is a comment.
