ERIC BURDON AND WAR REUNITE

For the first time in 37 years Eric Burdon & War get back together but for only one foggy London night. We remember Eric as lead singer of the Animals with their #1 tune The House Of The Rising Sun at the beginning of fall 1964 and others like See See Rider (#10-1966) and San Franciscan Nights (#9-1967). In 1970, Burdon joins the R&B funky jazz band War but he leaves the group in 1971. In that short period of time Burdon puts out the timeless classic Spill the Wine (#3-1970). War triumphs with The Cisco Kid (#2-1973) and Low Rider (#7-1975) for a total of 7 Top 10 hit tunes. The magic event for the return of Eric Burdon and War happens for one night only on Monday, April 21, 2008 at London's Royal Albert Hall

CRAIG POWERS (Las Vegas, NV) Jim, I'm just heading out for vacation and will get back to you in a week but in the meantime here are a couple of demos that will explain my career! Thanks so much for getting in touch! Best, Craig Powers

MARY LYNN KNOCHELMAN (Cincinnati,Ohio) Yes. Send me a free subscription to my email address of your web column newsletter. I will forward your email to Andy Furman and I'm sure he will be happy to get in touch with you himself. So now you know from the news article I sent to you called "Letterman Seeking Cincinnati Pet Tricks" that indeed Andy Furman is back on the radio. I have some experience in radio myself. I have a BS from Xavier University with the emphasis in broadcast journalism. Under the name Lynn Rattermann, I was a member of their student radio station's WVXU on-air news team from 1980 till I graduated in 1982. Sadly that radio station no longer belongs to Xavier University, but now to the University of Cincinnati. XU sold it to UC 3 years ago this summer. After graduation, I worked at WCKY AM 1530 (still the call letters and frequency) but at the time privately owned by Pathfinders Communications. I never made it on the air but worked as the phone screener for such talk show host personalities as Jan Michelson and the late Dick Norman. I also coordinated their traffic reporter by listening to police scanners for accident reports. His name was Ted Florko, a dear friend of mine, who sadly died from leukemia on February 11, 2004. Before his death, however, he was instrumental in launching Cincinnati's only Catholic radio station, WNOP 740AM, which carries alot of the Sacred Heart Radio programming. I see that you live in the Houston Texas, area. I've never been there but have two friends who also live there. They are my cousin Lisa Rice, married to David Rice, living in the Channelview, Texas area and former Cincinnati Red Bobby Tolan, who lives in the Bellaire, Texas area. Bobby has a little radio broadcast experience, having been a color man for the Padres main play by play man Jerry Coleman the summer of 1974 when he was on the disabled list as one of their players. Last year Bobby got some TV broadcast experience as an analyst on the Astros Live pre and post game shows. Bobby hasn't yet revealed to me whether he will be doing that job this year again. Thanks for getting back to me. As you can tell, I love listening to radio. Somebody just published a book of the history of television in Cincinnati. Radio pre-dated television. I wish someone would publish a book on Cincinnati's rich radio history. Sincerely, Mary Lynn Knochelman Cincinnati, Ohio

DUGG COLLINS (Wichita, KS) Jim; The web site looks great and I really appreciate the radio stories. I lasted forty eight and a half years before corporate radio decided I was no longer useful. Who knows, maybe there's a station out there who appreciates experience where Classic Country is concerned. I not only know it, I lived it as a musician and have hundreds of stories that I don't have to read from a book. Keep up the great work. GRADY MCALLISTER (Houston, TX) Hello Jim, Can you tell me when KTHT became KULF? I am in the process of recording my own impressions of AM 790 all the way from the late 50's to "the sports animal." Also when did the letters change from KULF to KBME? Were there any other call letter changes after 1960? On my radio web site, I rely a lot just on my own memory, often from when I was just 11 or 12 years old. It seems like I was listening to KTHT while driving in downtown Houston in 1969. I was listening to a newscast, and the newsman mentioned the call letter change to KULF. But my memory may be all wrong. Also, do you know when KTHT quit calling itself Demand? My AM 790 material is on on my web site at vasthead.com/Radio/radio_works.html It is in a narrow column in the toward the upper right of the page. R. JAY WEAVER (Ft. Worth, TX) Hi Jim - Yes, I worked with Bill Mack at KBUY, two different times. When I got there he was there, then he left to go to KPCN. Later he came back to KBUY. I don't remember why he left KBUY - it could have been for the same reason I left. I got fired! It was an interesting situation. Jay
