DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME
Remember that phrase: Spring forward...fall backward? That time is here again. Birds are singing, the cold weather is gone and spring has sprung. This means that we move the little hand on all of our clocks ahead one hour before we hit the hay on Saturday night. Oh yes, there's our car's timepiece, too, and our TV remote controls and our microwave ovens. The list seems endless. Wherever we see the current time we have to advance it one hour. We owe our esteem gratitude to our wonderful governmental officials who allow us mere mortals to experience this delightful event two times each year.
MOVIE IDOL ILL
Patrick Wayne Swayze is born on August 18, 1952 in Houston, TX. He is a dancer, actor, singer & songwriter. Remember the exciting movie Red Dawn in 1984? A foreign army invades America and takes over a small town. Patrick Swayze is one of the teens who heads for the hills. They drive the intruders out of our country. Patrick is one of Hollywood's best actors who is in over 50 movies. Just a tiny sampling includes Red Dawn (1984), Dirty Dancing (1987), Steel Dawn (1987), Ghost (1990), City of Joy (1992), Green Dragon (2001) and Christmas in Wonderland (2007). Swayze suffers from pancreatic cancer but his agent tells us on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 that he's doing well enough to continue working. Dr. George Fisher, Patrick's physician, says earlier reports that suggest Swayze has only a matter of weeks to live are exaggerated. His representative, Annett Wolf says Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects. The 55 year old actor has two upcoming films: Powder Blue and a TV movie The Beast. Both due out in 2008. Our prayers are that Patrick Swayze completely conquers this undue illness.

WAYNE WARNER (Springfield, MO) Good morning, Jim. Some of the people who read your column will remember guitar player Speedy Haworth whose funeral is today here in Springfield, MO. I found this piece on the internet. More available on Speedy—including music—on Google. Best wishes. Wayne Warner - Speedy Haworth - Court Square Stage, Sunday - If you had your radio dialed to KWTO Springfield, MO in the year 1932, you would have heard little Junior Haworth, "Slim" Wilson, and "Aunt Martha" singing 'Keep On the Sunny Side of Life'. Known as the Goodwill Trio, they uplifted the hearts of listeners in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas with their inspirational singing and Ozark humor. Some time later, Guy Smith (writer of the Great Speckled Bird) joined the trio as "Uncle George" and they became known as the Goodwill Family. After Junior (now known as "Speedy") returned from the Air Force, he rejoined the Goodwill Family along with the new "Uncle George" Rhodes. For 30 years the Goodwill Family could be heard on KWTO radio; then in the 1950's "Speedy" and "Slim" joined the popular nationally syndicated television show, Ozark Jubilee. Later "Speedy" went to Nashville, TN to play guitar for country music stars such as Rex Allen, Leroy Van Dyke, Porter Waggoner, and many others. After touring around the world with country music giants, he went back to Springfield to play guitar on the KYTV "Slim Wilson Show", as a member of the Tall Timber Trio.

ED HILDER (Tyler-Grand Saline, TX) edhilder@gmail.com Hello Jim! Thanks so much for getting back to me so fast, it was a pleasant surprise. I am referring to the only real KQUE, playing your song, pop standards! Yes, I was aware that both KNUZ and KQ were sold, very very sad. I was a loyal KQ listener (now 59) back in the sixties to the end. I remember when Web Hunt had his morning show way before Scott Arthur was around and Paul Berlin Mid-days. I truly miss those one of a kind jingles! My favorite was "Entertaining in Houston, This is KQUE " and a big classic, "280,000 watts vertically, 280,000 watts horizontally" I grew up in Houston but now reside in Grand Saline, close to Tyler, TX. Yes, please add my email to your column!! Hopefully I will find someone that has some of those station id's and jingles! Regards, Ed Hilder
