VINYL RECORDS WAVE OF THE FUTURE?

Yet another prominent recording artist releases a new record album on a real live genuine record - a vinyl LP. Remember those? Many of us are too young to even see one of those things from our past. These days, CD sales are totally flat. According to Billboard, Elvis Costello's new album, Momofuku, due out on April 22, 2008 on Lost Highway records arrives both digitally and on vinyl but not on CD. The album is only available on vinyl at retail locations with digital download information inside the record bundle. Costello opens for The Police on the final leg of their reunion tour in summer 2008. This is the 3rd well-known recording artist of whom we know to go back to real records on vinyl for their new releases. CD sales are flat as a flitter and about to shatter because today's music lovers love their music by way of digital downloads for 99c each or whatever is the going rate instead of the high-priced CDs. Bring out those record players or locate one at a pawn shop.

TRIVIA QUESTION: Who had hits with the song Mutual Admiration Society and in what year? The answer lies below.

TWEETER EXPANDS
Schultze Asset Management acquires Tweeter A/V electronics products outlet in the summer of 2007. Tweeter's newest store format is a 6,000-square-foot Playground showroom that opens in April 2008 in Chicago's Lincoln Park district. George Granoff, Tweeter President/CEO, says The Playground showroom concept showcases A/V products and whole-house systems within home-like vignettes, and has been way outperforming older stores on a range of performance metrics. The new prototype store also opens in mid-April as a retrofit to an existing Tweeter location near its company headquarters in Boston, MA. Granoff says that the cost to remodel an existing store is similar to opening a brand new store. Converting a store to the new format costs $800,000.

Wow used to listened to that late at night under the covers so my folks would not know I was listening to R&B...One of their slogans still cracks me up...THE BLACK SPOT ON YOUR DIAL! They also had a feature that I fear would not be too P.C. these days..."Negro's in the News". Was a great radio station that introduced me to some of the best music ever.

CHUCK DUNAWAY (Houston, TX) Good morning Jim: I thought I’d be the only person up this early. I’m up this early every day because my cats insist on their first meal at this time. It’s always between three and five. I’ve been up since four this morning, they’ve been fed and I’m on cup of coffee number two or is it three? What are you doing on the computer this time of day? Chuck

GLEN ASHWORTH (Lebanon, OR) Mr. Rose, Is there any place I could find KENR airchecks from the mid 70's? Thanks. Glen Ashworth

DR. CHARLES F. PAYNE (Dallas, TX) The Cuba Action Story now going on reminds me of key radio act I claim in the 50s, I wrote produced and copyrighted an unusual yet timely news feature half hour Sunday afternoon on KIXL 1040. In English program title---"World At Our Fingertips"...keyed to actual news from such stations as HP5G in Guatemala, Canadian Broadcasting, BBC London, Paris Radio, DJB Berlin, Argentine Radio, Radio Moscow and others knowing I couldn't re-broadcast news from CMQ in Havana. I secured permission from all countries. When Castro unseated Batista...it meant the end of the idea which was catching on. I had permission granted by all but Castro...and I promised FCC that we would not use Cuban news...but we did fill out the half hour with typical music of each individual country. "The World At Our Fingertips" made sense for the 50s...at least. Just so you know. DR CHARLES PAYNE

CHARLES GEORGE (Dallas, Texas) Hi, You know that Tchaivoskky had his music censored due to the tonalities he was using and thoughts expressed and that was only music no words. Due to time on my hands I went to Fair Park recently. My Nikkon just had to be put into service. I also got a neat bumber sticker from WRR-FM. They are in the Science Place II, the original Science Building, though in the past they were in a little cubby hole across from the Hall Of State Building. It seems every so often there is the idea of selling the station, but it has not happened. I hope it doesn't but I am afraid it will. Seeing KODA mentioned my grandfather liked to listen to them and KLEF. KODA had Classical Music at times if I remember correctly. He was a JP of Waller, and he would let me in his office when visiting on vacations and play with his radio. I usually tuned in KRBE, KAUM, or KLOL. I don't know whether any of the stations still exist. Charles

CLINT EASTWOOD (1930-p) We are like boxers, one never knows how much longer one has.
