A HOLLYWOOD LEGEND DIES
BEVERLY HILLS, CA - The man who parts the seas, races chariots, plays Moses, El Cid, Michelangelo dies at 84 on Saturday night, April 5, 2008 in his home in Beverly Hills. In June 1998, movie legend Charlton Heston becomes president of the National Rifle Association. In 2002, Charlton announces to the world that he has symptoms of Alzheimer's. Heston is known to millions of us movie fans all over the world as a man who conquers evil but in real life the dreaded Alzheimer's overcomes him. In April 2003, Heston steps down from his role as NRA president. After five years in office, he tells his fellow NRA members that it is quite a ride. ... I loved every minute of it. Also in 2003, Charlton Heston receives the Presidential Medal of Freedom which is America's highest civilian honor.

TRIVIA QUESTION:
What two U.S. Presidents names contain the letters from the word criminal? And what U.S. Presidential candidate's name has the letters from the word criminal? The answers lie below.

JAZZ SINGER ILL
JOSHUA TREE, CA - Grammy-winning 71-year-old Pop and Jazz singer Nancy Wilson goes to the Hi-Desert Medical Center on Monday, March 31, 2008 for treatment of a collapsed lung. Devra Levy, wife of Nancy's manager, John Levy, says She is expected to recover but will not be able to make a performance scheduled in Memphis, TN next weekend. Wilson, who lives in the Southern California high desert, begins to experience pain so her husband, Wiley Burton, takes her to the hospital. The semiretired chanteuse lifts up her voice professionally for over 50 years. In 1965 Nancy receives a Grammy for best R&B recording for her summer 1964 #11 hit How Glad I Am. In 2005, Wilson takes home a Grammy for her album R.S.V.P. (Rare Songs, Very Personal). In 2007, her album Turned to Blue wins the Grammy for best Jazz vocal album. Our prayers go out to Nancy Wilson for a complete recovery.

FCC ACTION
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Justice Department files a lawsuit against News Corporation on Friday, March 28, 2008 because it says it violates indecency laws in an episode of the reality TV show Married to America where viewers see body parts that may be potentially offensive. By the way, Married to America no longer airs on TV. The DOJ files the claims in four jurisdictions to enforce $56,000 in FCC fines because the airing of the program violates its indecency laws. This action comes just in the nick of time because the statute of limitations against News Corporation are about to expire.

GULF COAST RADIO
AUSTIN - Clear Channel KVET FM morning DJ & Country DJ Hall of Fame member Bob Cole adds a new co-host Bucky Godbolt for the new Bucky & Bob Morning show...The Talk of Austin. BOB MILLER (Plymouth, MI) Hi, I read on your website that Charlie Van passed away. Can you tell me when, where and what from? I worked with him in Corpus for a while and he would always talk about my dad, Les Miller, who worked at KTSA prior to Gordon McClendon's ownership and went to WOAI after that. Thanks, Bob Miller

DAN ROSEN (Tokyo-Kamakura, Japan) Hi Jim, I was in a record store in search of a different album but ran across a listening station for Anne Murray's new album, Duets, produced by Phil Ramone. It reminded me of KBAT, before it became KKYX "Great Country 68." I always liked Anne Murray, but she was too "country" for MOR KBAT. So, they often let me have her promo albums. Part of the fringe benefit plan! Best, Dan P.S. The place I work is NHK, not NKH--as sometimes appears in JRRR.

CHARLIE OCHS (St. Petersburg, FL) Subject: KTRM. Wow…Interesting to see the note about KTRM in Beaumont. I was just thinking about KTRM the other day. I was there for a very short time, about 6 months, in 1970 as the News Director. There was a little shrine in the reception area for J. P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) who was on the air there in the 50s before he died in the plane crash with Buddy Holly. The PD when I was there was Robert Hooker who had also been on the air when J. P. was there. Robert was a great guy. The station was failing and the family who owned it had brought in their accountant to run it. My then wife worked at the bank where the station did business and I would race down there with my check every two weeks so I could be the first in line to get what little money was in the account. I saw the ax coming down and beat it out of there before it all ended and went back to KOOL in Phoenix. Charlie Ochs; SrVP, CBS Radio Tampa Manager; St. Petersburg, FL; WQYK FM/AM, WRBQ, WLLD, WSJT, WYUU

RICK UPTON (San Antonio, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#486-45) April 4, 2008 [Friday] Jim: Your name was brought up at our Radio Reunion today. Positive words and Vibes only. Fantastic Luncheon at the Sea Island. Great to see old friends and nice to meet new friends. Wishing you were with us today; Rick Upton and the rest of the San Antonio Radio community past and present...Rick Upton, Director of New Business Development, Fox 29/MY 35 San Antonio

HAROLD GUNN (Houston, TX) Jim, Correction on today's stuff. It is BizRadio "1110" not 1150. I know because not only does my Automotive Reporter program run on both their stations Sundays noon to one, but I do their advertising. Love, Harold Gunn

MIKE HARTMAN (Ft. Worth-Joshua, TX) HEY, JIM...You've probably heard this one before...but, just in case you haven't. A grasshopper walks into a bar and takes a seat. The bartender makes eye contact, and cheerfully says, "Hey...We have a drink named after you". The grasshopper replies, "A drink named Bob. How stupid". This was one of my dad's favorites...Did you hear about the guy who had 90 pound testacles? He was half nuts. Hey, I just saw a pop up indicating your "JRRR" has arrived. Gotta' check it out. Later. MIKE

WALTER HAMMOCK (San Antonio, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#486-45) April 4, 2008 [Friday] Jim: You need to give Ronny Renfrow the credit for doody woo, he was the one I called.

TRIVIA ANSWER:
The two U.S. Presidents' names that contain the letters from the word criminal are Richard Milhouse Nixon and William Jefferson Clinton. U.S. Presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton's name also has the letters from the word criminal.

CHARLES GEORGE (Dallas, TX)
Hi, Here in Dallas the stations from Houston area I could hear the most often were: KTRH 740, I managed to a get a QSL from them and also their FM when tropo was coming in, KTRH was best in the day here; KULF 790 would often make it for a song or two at night; KPRC 950 was best around daybreak, fun to compare the news with KTRH; a station on 1070 sometimes would nake it but alas not enjoyable due to splatter. 73, Charles George, KC5RAI

ANN COULTER (December 8, 1961-present) Besides the joy liberals take in lying generally, they have massive Reagan envy.
