ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

EAST COAST
NEW YORK CITY - Gotham City's bad-boys behind the mic, Greg Hughes & Anthony Cumia, well known to the FCC as Opie & Anthony, extend their original 2006 contract for their morning show on CBS Radio's WXRK FM (K-Rock 92.3) NYC, plus the addition of WBCN FM (The Rock of Boston 104.1) Boston, MA & WKRK FM (K-Rock 92.3) Cleveland-Cleveland Heights, OH. Opie & Anthony's more spicy midday radio show on XM satellite also renews. If we remember back in 2004, Opie & Anthony's raw St. Patrick's Cathedral stunt causes them to leave the CBS building and pushes them up into the sky to XM satellite radio. The dynamic duo issues a statement, We are both very excited to be re-signing with CBS Radio. Hosting morning drive on K-Rock in New York City has been a career highlight, and when you add in WBCN and WKRK, it makes it even more special and fulfilling. That said, we look forward to our next firing with great anticipation.

TRIVIA QUESTION: Over the years at least 20 well-known muscians are in the jailhouse at one time or another. Can you name them? The answer lies below.

WEST COAST
LOS ANGELES - Everybody's talking about Bonneville when it buys Urban AC KRBV FM (100.3) from Radio One. The rumor mill is alive and well in L.A. Is News-Talk its wave of the future? No. The rumors are now at rest. Bonneville ends their 8 hours of Bruce Radio and flips KRBV FM to Triple A as 100.3 The Sound, This new direction for KRBV FM pulls in Rock music from the Sizzlin' Sixties to today's tunes. Radio One ends its Urban AC format with Boyz II Men’s End of the Road & Howard Hewett’s Say Amen. Then Bonneville wakes up La La Land with U2’s Beautiful Day.

BEVERLY HILLS - United Talent Agency (UTA) one of Hollywood's big five talent agencies loses partners Nick Stevens, Lisa Hallerman & Sharon Sheinwold to Endeavor Agency. The three represent some of UTA's top talent, such as comedy A-listers Ben Stiller, Judd Apatow, Owen Wilson and Jack Black, Jonah Hill, Patrick Dempsey, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Jason Schwartzman and many of the current Saturday Night Live cast. The question is which of the stars go with them to Endeavor. Stiller says he makes the move. Ben says I think Nick Stevens is a unique entity in this business: an agent with integrity, a point of view and most of all humanity. He's Jerry Maguire at the end of the movie. Black expects to make the move soon. These desertions, plus others recently, come as a huge shock to UTA that could regurgitate throughout the entire talent agency world.

SAN DIEGO - Glenn Beck, Premiere Radio Networks-syndicated talk host & CNN nightly Headline News personality, reaches a new milestone as Midwest Television News/Talk KFMB-760 San Diego becomes his radio show's 300th affiliate. Glenn's show is 9am-noon weekdays on KFMB.

INTERNATIONAL
TORONTO - On Tuesday, April 8, 2008 Rogers Communications says it backs rules that bar U.S. cable channels like HBO, ESPN & Nickelodeon from entrance into the Canadian TV market. ROME - The 12th annual Cartoons on the Bay festival begins the beguine on Thursday, April 10, 2008 with more than 175 programs from 25 countries. This is its biggest lineup ever. BRUSSELS - The European Parliament announces that the European Union demands all public-service TV programs in the EU must be subtitled. LONDON - The United Kingdom Film Council pumps 18 million pounds ($35.5 million) during the next 2 years into 9 regional agencies to develop the film economy and culture across England. ROME - The world premiere of Chinese director Zhang Yibai's Mi guo (Lost Indulgence) highlights the 62-film Far East Film Festival lineup.

DERRILL E. HOLLY (Arlington, VA) Stopped in and took a read of the Cashbox column. It's good they are turning to someone who knows the business and its people for context. I look forward to seeing frank coverage of doings within the industry, especially when branding means stamping out huge chunks of American culture. As we've discussed, call letters and personalities help define us -- whether we were listeners or communicators. Derrill E. Holly; Arlington, Va.

PAUL LONG (Detroit-Brighton, MI)
Thanks, Jim. Do you have an email address with Ron (Chapman). He and my father (Joe Long) worked together and he accepted the HOF award for him (come to think of it…you told me that). Address, anything would be great. I owe him a thank you note. Good night, Paul Long (www.paul-long.com)

DAVE MICHAELS (Culver City, CA) Subject: "You have arrived " on the "Cash Box Deal " Jim...its nice to see one of the really Good Guys in the Radio Business gets the recognition. Have fun and enjoy! Dave Michaels - Culver City, Ca.

GARY DELAUNE (San Antonio, TX) Wednesday; Hey Jim; Joe-pa is still roaming the sidelines at Penn State and to me that means there is still life left in the senior set. Last week's "old radio guys" get together at Sea Island simply enforced what has been true for years...Without the Bobby Bowdens, the Paternos, the Royals, football wouldn't be what it is today...Without the talent, the leadership and innovation of our generation, radio would not have been the magical medium it was during the golden era of broadcasting. Everyone who reads Jim Rose Remembers does indeed remember what it was like before satellite and corporate destruction of the business. Visiting with the "Vets" last week was a privilege for me because I respect what the men and women of a by-gone time did for our vocations. For the aging mastadons of the microphone, a salute to you and a thanks for all the tremendous magical moments you provided from coast-to-coast. Thanks to Jim Rose and Cash Box for helping to keep those trips to nostalgia land alive. Oh yes, Jim, Bruce Hathaway and I get to play radio hosts each Sat. morning from 9-11 on a San Antonio Christian station, KYTY Star Radio It's on the internet..www.Star810,.com. If you have time over your cup of coffee, listen in..How about that NCAA finale? Bill Self may get four million from Okla. State plus a mega-million dollar signing bonus...thanks to T. Boone Pickens. Gary D.

MIKE HARTMAN (Ft. Worth-Joshua, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#488-47) April 9, 2008 [Wednesday] Hey Jim...I know you've received many of these...but, I've got to throw mine in, as well...Congratulations on your job with Cash Box. I can't thank you enough for "JRRR". Now, even more "Lovers of Radio" will be paying their "Thank you's". Go get 'em!

DR. JEFF CUNNINGHAM (Austin-Kyle, TX)
It is really great that you are getting some recognition for years of toil in the biz. I spent all weekend in a seminar learning how to treat autistic kids and I suppose that will end up being my legacy. I certainly hope so. But you never know what your legacy will be. Perhaps yours is still being defined. I appreciate the nice work you do. Give Tejas a snausage from uncle Jeff Cunningham, DC. Kyle, TX

FR BOB TOMLINSON (DFW-Hurst, TX)
I'm late offering my congratulations on the Cashbox column. As everyone has offered, I hope it's bringing in some dollars for you. Keep up the good work. Blessings, Fr Bob Tomlinson; Fort Worth

CHUCK CASHMERE (San Diego, TX)
Jim, I just returned from an unexpected trip. I'm delighted to read the business about you and Cash Box. I'll check out the column. While I was gone I had the opportunity to read t 100 people who are screwing up America. I highly reccomend it. Some of our favorite hypocrites are there. In the mean time I hope you can pick up a few $ with Cash Box. Again congradulations. CC

GENTLEMAN JIM CARTER (San Antonio, TX)
Jimbo: Looks like your ship finally came in! Congratulations! Patience & perserverance pays off doesn't it?! I've always believed that, generally speaking, people get pretty much what they deserve in life...and it's more than obvious that you really deserve this break with Cashbox! Enjoy the ride! Gentleman Jim Carter

MIKE LUCAS (Austin, TX)
Things here are good...between my v-o work, managing a great show band The BIG TIME (www.thebigtimeaustin.com) and my Rotary Club, I'm a pretty busy fellow. I read your stuff, so I know you're doing well. I visit with Bruce (Jim Edwards) Buchanan frequently. You may remember him from KXOL and KFJZ.
