The latest rumor from The Hollywood Reporter and Variety is that former Saturday Night Live regular Jimmy Fallon takes Conan's place on Late Night. NBC has nothing to say about the situation. But just last summer, Rick Ludwin, NBC late-night honcho, says that Fallon is at the top of our short list.

Premiere Talk show host Rush Limbaugh reacts to those harsh words when he says that riots at the convention all but guarantees a Republican win in November. Clear Channel talk KOA-850 in Denver carries the Rush Limbaugh Talk show which keeps the breaking news on the air.

DALLAS, TX - In February 2006, the Walt Disney Company unloads most of its radio stations to Citadel Broadcasting but keeps its Radio Disney stations. Radio Disney mostly uses AM radio frequencies. Its home base is Dallas, TX. The Radio Disney flagship station is KDIS-1110 Los Angeles-Pasadena, CA. The original call letters for that frequency are Oldies KRLA-1110. The KRLA call letters stay alive on another area frequency as KRLA-870 (Newstalk 870) Los Angeles-Glendale, CA. We can also find Radio Disney on channel 115 on XM Satellite Radio & Sirius Satellite Radio in the USA and Canada. To match Mickey Mouse's birthday, Walt Disney Company's new subsidiary Radio Disney launches on November 18, 1996 with programming for kiddos and young teens. ANDY WALDROP (Houston, TX) [from San Antonio Express-News] Ricci Ware's radio show axed "I've been fired," veteran KTSA talk host Ricci Ware announced on his show today. Great Scott! Fired? That's huge news, when you consider Ware has reached icon status in San Antonio with 50 years of local radio under his belt. However, after talking to KTSA managers, I'd say the more accurate way to characterize the news is that Ware's weekday KTSA radio show is the thing that's been "fired." "The Ricci Ware Show" from 11 am to 1 pm will be eliminated, effective the end of May. "Well, fiddle," Ware said, in his distinctive country twang, when reached at home after today's announcement. "It's all over, but the shouting." However, he also acknowledged he isn't leaving KTSA entirely. He'll be back Monday to do another month of his midday show. Then, come June, he'll begin a new role with the station, a Sunday show on KTSA from 5 to 7 pm. "They've tossed me a bone" is how he put it. What's behind the change? Plans by BMP Radio, KTSA's parent company, to launch an intensive noon news hour by June. The company also seeks to dramatically step up its Internet usage and presence. This emphasis on new technology as Ware, 71, said himself on the air is definitely not his bag. He said he has no plans to learn to master the computer. Why, according to his son, KTSA morning talk host Trey Ware, Ricci doesn't even have an email address, Reached after the announcement, KTSA managers made it clear that Ware has not been fired. "We definitely want to continue a relationship with Ricci," BMP's director of programming Mark Landis told me. Ware started his radio career at KTSA as a rock-and-roll DJ some 50 years ago, and "it's very important to us to keep him here at KTSA," Landis said. He won't earn as much, Landis confirmed. However, Ricci will be on the payroll and continue receiving the benefits he's accrued during his tenure there. The station's respect for him is so strong, Landis said, that bosses left it up to Ricci as to how exactly he would break the news to his listeners, a privilege rarely extended in radio. Landis didn't even sound angry about the way Ware phrased it as being "fired." Son Trey said he'll miss his dad's daily presence on KTSA. "I think he's the best that's ever gotten behind a microphone. I'm his #1 fan and I'll miss his weekday show. But I definitely will be listening to him on Sunday evenings. There are multitudes of others who undoubtedly will agree that Ware both during his time on KTSA and his years in between as a rowdy, opinionated voice on old C&W station, KBUC. is indeed a broadcasting legend who deserves the right to cry, "I've been fired" if that indeed is the way he sees it.
DAVE LANE (Atlanta, GA) The publisher, Bruce Elrod...also known as Boss Hogg, lives in Ridgeway, SC, Mike Peace and the design crew live in Chicago. I'm in charge of the radio stuff and I'm in Atlanta. We do everything by phone and email and it works out great. We haven't had any need for a payroll department yet but, hopefully, that won't last too long! Check out Bruce's goofy site at www.ridgewaysouthcarolina.com ... that's the home of Boss Hogg. Bruce likes to stick it to the local politicians. I'm a little suprised that he's managed to survive this long, too. Dave Lane (
BOB MILLER (Plymouth, MI) Hi Jim, Congratulations on the new gig. I enjoy reading the email postings on your site, some of them from my radio heroes like Woody Roberts and Lee Babi Simms. I used to bring hamburgers to KONO at night just to get in the studio when Lee was on the air. I was in high school back then. Anyone know what ever became of Bob Sinclair? I still remember he cut a song that was hilarious about "building a girl", or something to that effect. Robert Miller, Plymouth, Michigan
TRIVIA ANSWER: Before she finds success in the music recording industry, Reba McEntire is a rodeo barrel-racer. Red Stegall discovers her magnificent voice as she sings The Star-Spangled Banner at the National Finals Rodeo in 1974. In 1931, Congress officially rules that The Star-Spangled Banner is America's National Anthem.
CHUCK CASHMERE (San Diego, CA) So much for free speech. When the French are getting their throats slit by Muslim extremists I guess they'll come to grips with the hatred that the muslims have for the rest of the world. CC
WALTER HAMMOCK (Houston, TX) OH he's one of THEM all right I will cast my vote for John McCain, God helps us if Obama wins.
