WEST COAST
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Valerie Geller, veteran programmer and broadcast consultant, is the moderater of a panel about how powerful personalities are behind the survival of radio's future. Valerie speaks at a joint conference of the Popular Culture Association and the American Culture Association in the Bay area. GULF COAST

MARY LYNN KNOCHELMAN (Cincinnati, Ohio) I'm thrilled that Gary Burbank is included in both your JRRR and the Cash Box. Thanks for including the link to the Radio Hall of Fame in your story about him! Hopefully fans from around our whole country will vote for him. Not just his fans in Cincinnati. Mary Lynn Knochelman

LEE BABY SIMS (Walnut Creek, CA) Good day my good friend. I always look forward to the reminiscences of those Texas People, They are all something else, by any measure. I was especially charmed with Woody`s response. (he remembered Brynda.) He holds a special place in my heart. (As she does). If you would be so kind as to forward to him my email address. I would love to speak with him. If you will do so..We will see if He would like to speak with me. I know that between the two us we could come up with a little something for the column. After all....

JENNIFER VIHARO (Atlantic City-Pittsgrove, NJ) Subject: A brilliant marketing strategy. Jim, I watched Fox News last night and this seems to be the general consensus of opinion but I think Wrights outbursts have been carefully choreographed – with Obama’s approval. This gives Obama the opportunity to distance himself from him as well as voice his "so called outrage" at Pastor Wright without appearing disloyal and alienating the far left. Thus by making Wright the target – he gets to present himself as the Savior of poor and middle class America vs a Racist Pastor Wright. It’s a brilliant marketing strategy but his timing might be off. Cheers! Jen

SCOTT HODGES (Shreveport, LA) Jim, This may sound kind of synical, but here goes anyway. For the past 40 years or so, it seems there has been a consistant organized effort to dumb down America. This has applied not only to lowering standards in public/private schools, but also in the national/local media where news organizations appear more interested in a glut of glitter than in substance. The "Dumbing Down of America" has reaced far too many people and it shows up when you have trouble finding John/Jane Q Public not knowing who their leaders are, where their leaders are, or what their leaders really believe in, who our real enemies are or where you find them. But, that's another discussion for a politically incorrect day. Cheers, Scott Hodges, CEO On Hold Marketing of America, LLC; Shreveport, LA 71118

BOB CROWLEY (DFW-Arlington, TX)
Hey jim, Hmm, sounds like the computer world is whipping your tail. I've been having similar problems trying to digitize vinyl. I finally took the part and the software back and got a refund. Anyhoo: Scott Crowder, late of WBAP News Afternoon Drive, is headed down I-45, to become morning drive reporter for KTRH. Everyone up here really likes Scott, and we are all very pleased he was able to land on his feet so quickly. (BTW- Bryan Erickson is the News Director there. I just realized he's been there since 2000, cause that was when I interviewed for the job, turned it down and gave them his name!...don't need to print that part). Bryan Erickson, the News Director, has been there about eight years. That's like 40 years in Radio/dog years! Bob

CHARLES GEORGE (Dallas, TX) Hi, I guess no one would want to be an investor with an engineering background. The best I was able to do was put together a kit from Radio Shack that fed my music from my bedroom to the kitchen while washing dishes, I used a Broadcast Electronics 4-pot; 8-input ; broadcasting board sold to me for the high price of $100 which when it no longer was useable I donated to a local community station I never heard from. 73, Charles George, KC5RAI

TRIVIA ANSWER: Here In Topeka is the original name of Loretta Lynn's #1 hit tune in 1971 One's On the Way. The title changes because of controversy in Topeka, KS.

WALTER HAMMOCK (Houston, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#497-42) April 30, 2008 [Wednesday] I saw the blurb from Joe Ford about Bobby Langham, did something happen to him that prompted that mention? Bobby knew EVERYBODY in Houston radio and was a virtual almanac of who was where, how he managed to get all than info I just don't know but his devotion to Houston radio was amazing.

DR. BRUCE NELSON (Corpus Christi, TX)
Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#497-32) April 30, 2008 [Wednesday] Re: Joe Ford's letter..did I miss something about Bobby Langham, what's the scoop????? Still get letters from Bobby but haven't heard from him in a year or so, just wondered. We used to joke that your radio career was REALLY over if you didn't hear from Bobby. Nice guy, I sent him some CD's a year or so ago, I'm well familiar w/him...best, B

ANDY WALDROP (Houston, TX)
Subject: Bobby Langham. Jim, Joe mentioned Bobby Langham in his published E-mail. Is Bobby OK? Andy

JOE FORD
and I discuss Bobby Langham several times over the last couple of years. Bobby sends a snail mail last year or the year before but he never answers my letter until a month or so ago. He says that his mother dies. So sad. It appears that our buddy Bobby Langham gets along OK physically. Bobby is a very loyal Houston radio listener. During my over 30 years here in Houston radio, Bobby finds all of the 6 FM and 6 AM radio stations where I sit behind a mic and spin those tunes and he rings the telephone line with news about radio DJs.

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (1564-1616)
What's in a name? That which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet.
