TV REPORTER SUES STATION Alycia Lane a newscaster on KYW TV files a claim in the Philadelphia, PA Common Pleas Court that says the television station maliciously damaged her reputation and contributed to a number of her embarrassing off-camera episodes. She alleges that KYW TV and its management deliberately gets her personal life into the news for free publicity. Alycia gets her walking papers from KYW TV in January 2008 after her arrest in NYC from a scuffle with plainclothes cops. The reporter's suit also alleges that KYW TV's management has a pattern of deep-seated gender-discriminatory animus toward female employees.

MIKE SCOTT'S OBITUARY IN THE SUNDAY JUNE 22, 2008 HOUSTON CHRONICLE: B. Michael "Mike Scott" Belile. Our beloved B. MICHAEL "MIKE SCOTT" BELILE, born December 19, 1938 in Louisiana, passed away June 7, 2008 at home in Houston, Texas. With a long, illustrious career as one of Radio's pioneering personalities, Mike's colleagues remember him as "brilliant," "a great talent," "as good a guy as he was a DJ...and that's saying a lot." He was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in 2003, and twice won Billboard `s Country Music Personality of the Year. A creative genius and first-call voice talent in Houston, Mike was co-owner, with his wife Tookie, of Mike Scott Recording and Duplicating for nearly 30 years. He was the voice of Channel 39, Popeye's Chicken, Conn's, Palais Royal, numerous corporate trainings, and the transporter at IAH airport...among others. A musician, teacher, commercial producer, engineer, sound designer, writer and performer, Mike was also a longtime member of SAG-Aftra. He is survived by his mother Ann, his brothers, his wife, his children Michael (and wife Sandra), Elisabeth (and husband Andrew Lucchesi), Shanna, and grandson Andrew Bodhi Belile Lucchesi. Published in the Houston Chronicle on 6/22/2008. LIZ BELILE (Houston, TX) Thanks for passing this on. I am going to continute to collect stories, images, airchecks, demos, etc for the Aurora event. Please continue to pass on any contacts you may have and any of the above media. It looks like Dad was digitizing some stuff before he died; I found a CD he'd burned of "The Last Hudson and Harrigan Show" sitting in the studio next to his computer. It's amazing. Here's a pic of me and my brother and Mike's grandson, Andrew Bodhi, in front of the studio. Warmly, Liz Belile, The Reverend Liz Belile, MFA Creative Writing/Poetics, LMT, RYT Anusara-Inspired Teacher

TOM BIGBY (Detroit, MI) Hello Jim, our industry seems to be losing a lot of good guys and girls. Mike Scott and I worked together in Lake Charles for about an hour... I think I remember his real name being Mike Belile. We would drive to a Hill in South Texas and listen to KILT. then to another hill in NE Louisiana to listen to KLIF and KBOX, then come back to the station in Lake Charles and copy everything we heard... we were both students of radio...others were students of life, we lived radio. I for one will never regret those days. I only wish some of the young people in our business today knew the history of how we all got to where we are today. I am happy that I still find great satisfaction and enjoy going to work everyday. of course there are challenges but there always have been...remember reel to reel and wind up turntables. I love the digital changes and the opportunity to learn what my kids always knew. Tom Bigby---CBSDetroit/Dallas
KAREN JOHNSTON (Houston, TX) Hi Jim, Thanks for the reply. I've been back in Houston since November, 2002. I moved to Denver in 1996 to work for Columbine JDS systems (broadcast traffic software). I moved to Massachusetts in 2001 after the company was sold. I worked for another broadcast software company, VCI. When I discovered that News 24 Houston, which at the time, was a new cable news station about to launch in Houston in 2002 (and also a VCI client), I managed to get the job of Traffic Manager, and happily moved back home. The station closed in 2004 because of a disagreement between partners. I am now working from home for XM Satellite Radio. I am doing log editing for several of their channels and I really enjoy it. XM is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and its a really cool place. It's the biggest radio station I've ever seen, with about 60 control rooms, and a fabulous studio for live performances. There a huge photos lining the walls of recording artists that have been there and performed. It's good to see that you're still in the market. I found your newsletter a couple of months ago when I was googling some of the folks from the past. I have been out of touch for so long with people I loved dearly. The newsletter is a super idea. It keeps everyone together in a way. The idea to auto send it is good, too. That way, I don't miss anything, like the news about Mike. It's too bad you didn't get to work with him to any extent. He was the AM drive talent on KQUE while I was working Production at KNUZ. I saw him every morning. He was always in a great mood and willing to help with advice and encourgement. I left in '81 and never worked with him again except for an occasional visit to Studio B, his production house. He edited a couple of air checks for me. I considered him to be one of the very best talents in the market. Keep doing the great job that you are with this project. Everyone appreciates it more than you know. Who is Tejas? Is she your lovely wife or a precious pet? I wish you the best in life. Take care of yourself and I'll send you some stories of the old days soon. Best regards, Karen Johnston
