MAJOR TV ANCHOR LEAVES HIS POST
Rumors have it that one of Fox News Channel's dominent political editors steps down from his nightly newscast after the presidential election. Two folks close to him say that the 65 year old Brit Hume has an interest in reducing his role but remains with Fox News as a panelist on Fox News Sunday. Brit a former ABC White House correspondent never hides his Conservative views. He is an integral part of Fox News' success. Brit anchors on election nights, at political conventions and moderates a number of presidential debates.

TV ANCHORS AND REPORTERS TAKE NOTICE
The CBS TV newsroom wakes up to a new world. In April 2008 CBS News hands out a pink piece of paper to veteran Meteorologist Paul Douglas at WCCO TV as part of a layoff of 100 staff members across the station group. Paul is one of the most popular TV personalities at the top-rated Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN TV station with 22 years in the market and the last 11 at WCCO. Douglas says The model is changing and the era of the high-priced anchor persons is slowly, maybe not slowly, is rapidly coming to an end. Even if you're No. 1 ... if half as many eyeballs are watching your newscast as were watching five years ago, that's a problem. News agents who represent TV anchors and reporters find unusually tough times for news talent. They say it takes longer to place clients in news jobs and salaries are not as generous. Experienced and accomplished TV reporters find for the first time in their careers that they are now expendable.

DAVID A. DOERR (Biloxi, MS) Hey Gang! I made it back to Biloxi, MS about an hour ago. Thought I'd send this picture out right away. I am so very glad I went to the Memorial Service although I wasn't sure why I felt like I should be there...I had never even met Nick although I had listened to him on KEXL. But after meeting so many of his friends and family members, and reading half-way through Nick's facinating book which his son gave me, I absolutely know I was supposed to be there. Thanks to all of you who were there! David A. Doerr Note on Picture: Left to Right: Don White, Sam Kindrick, Ron Houston, David Doerr, Jay Pennington, Bobby Reyes. PS - Just out of camera range was Bruce Hathaway and Tom Devine
BOB CROWLEY (DFW-Arlington, TX) Talked to Mom today. She said her friend, Father Joe, was in touch with Dan Cook in the months leading up to his passing. Apparently they communicated by phone and e-mail, but didn't meet. Then, Dan's family called and asked him to come. Dan had been in a coma for quite a while, but woke up when Father Joe came. They gave him some ice cream; the first food he had eaten in days. Father Joe gave him the last rights. Dan's daughter put a rosary in Dan's hands, and he was gone. Seems Dan Cook was raised Catholic, but like many of us, fell away from the faith. But in the last days, he was able to re-connect with his faith heritage. His family had the traditional rosary and catholic funeral. Mom was very pleased by Father Joe's story. She recalled how good Dan Cook was to me, and to everyone else he ever encountered. She was happy he was given the final sacraments and a Catholic burial. Bob
ARTHUR J. (Bud) ROGERS (Springfield-Joplin, MO) I don't remember a Wade Cutler. Richard Poyner had a brother there was an instructor in the First Class license classes. I don't recall his name at the moment. I still have the Catalog that gave information about the school. I didn't take the 'first class' course. I should have, but couldn't afford it at the time. My Dad had died a couple of years before and money was tight. (Still is, LOL.). I remember walking from the radio station downtown back to Mrs. Ethel Moon's house (4 miles) after I signed off at 11:00 at night. I was in Dallas in the mid 80's was a little apprehensive walking around downtown in broad daylight (LOL). I can't believe I did that and didn't think a thing about it. I walked down to work in the afternoon and worked until sign of. It was KEIR by the say at 103.9 I believe. I had the call letters on my car back window glass. Couldn't afford to drive it anywhere...except it was available to take me back home when I finished the course. Thanks for this exchange. And, Yes, Frank Haley was working at KLIF. I happened to have a newscast recorded that he did. It was on a reel-to-reel tape that I recorded off the speaker at Mrs. Moon's house. I was able to copy it and send him a copy about 3 or 4 months ago.
FRANK HALEY (Albuquerque, NM) Jim, Sorry to hear about Dr. Charlie Payne, I never met him, but he and I communicated by e-mail after his wife died. I sent him condolances after that and he replied. He was kind enough to send me a copy of his book autographed to me. It's a great read, I'm sure you've read it. His death is a great loss to everyone, his family, friends, and the business. Take care my friend, Frank (The Old Texan) Haley cjf Isa. 9:6 "When the sunshine of God's love meets the showers of our sorrow, the rainbow of promise appears."
TRIVIA ANSWER: Jimi Hendrix's guitar version of The Star-Spangled Banner dominates a 1996 Aiwa TV ad.
CHARLES GEORGE (Dallas, TX) Hi, I enjoy the work of Don Wolff. He had a show of Jazz on Saturday Nights, since it would get bumped for Sports I would forget about his show. I tuned in not hearing him I thought the worse had happened. Anyway, I went to Google and found he is now on KFUO-FM on Friday Nights. They stream their station so I will be able to hear his show. I find there is good radio out there it just is harder for me to find. Before I actually heard Dizzy , I had an Lp by Cal Tjader, Soul Burst that had a composition Manteca. I listened until I could learn to play the song on my guitar. It was simple that it was hard to learn. I find some simple tunes are harder for me to play. For a year I worked at Piccadilly Cafeteria on Commerce, next door was the Melody Shop and the Commerce News Stand, so most of my money would get spent at those two places along with sheet music from Whittles and McCords. 73, Charles George
KFUO FM (99.1) has an FCC license of 100,000 watts for Clayton, MO which is a southern suburb of St. Louis. It plays Classical music. An excerpt from
SCOTT REESE (Dallas, TX) Hey Jim, Nice to hear from you! We recently added KASO as a Timeless affiliate. It's definitely a small radio world considering that's where you started. Speaking of our first stations, when I was on our AC format in the early & mid 90's we were carried by KTQM in Clovis, N.M. where I started in 1971. Proof that you CAN go back! Always enjoy the newsletter, keep up the great work. Scott
GROUCHO MARX (October 2, 1890-August 19, 1977) Age is not a particularly interesting subject. Anyone can get old. All you have to do is live long enough.
