ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

TRIO MEMBER DIES
Three guys who begin a Folk music revival in the 1960s that sweeps America like a hurricane are well-known to us fans as The Kingston Trio. They pave the way for singer-poet Bob Dylan. Remember in the fall of 1958 the tune, Tom Dooley? Wow! What a great sing-a-long song. It zooms to #1. There's the tale of the man who gets lost on the MTA. How about Where Have All the Flowers Gone, Greenback Dollar and the Reverend Mr. Black? The Kingston Trio causes a Folk music invasion of our land even before the British send their Beatles to America. Nick Reynolds, a founding member of The Kingston Trio dies at 75 of acute respiratory disease in San Diego, CA on Wednesday, October 1, 2008. The original Trio lineup is Dave Guard, Bob Shane and Nick Reynolds. Five of the group's first six albums become #1 and last 46 weeks on the charts. In 1961 Dave leaves to form the Whiskeyhill Singers. John Stewart steps up to the plate as his replacement. In 1967, John writes a #1 hit for The Monkees, Daydream Believer. George Grove joins The Kingstom Trio in 1972. In 1979, John Stewart scrores #5 for himself with Gold. Dave Guard passes away at 56 of lymphoma on March 22, 1991. John dies on January 20, 2008 in his birthplace San Diego, CA. Nick Reynolds leaves behind his wife Leslie, sons Joshua and John Pike Reynolds, daughters Annie Reynolds Moore and Jennifer Reynolds, and his two sisters.

STEVEN TYLER SUES HIMSELF
Aerosmith front guy Steven Tyler sues Steven Tyler, or at least his impersonator. It seems that a couple of individuals steal the 60 year-old Rock 'n' Roll star's identity as they portray him and his girlfriend Erin Brady on Web blogs. On Friday, September 26, 2008 Steven sues these cyber-thieves in L.A. Superior Court because they impersonate both him and his favorite flame on the Internet. Tyler knows not the names of the mimes but believes it's the same duo who portrays him on the Web in 2007. Google removes their websites in December 2007 but like roaches in Beaumont they reappear on the Web. Steven's lawsuit alleges that the impersonators post pictures and intimate details about [his] private life, including [Tyler's] relationship with his girlfriend, his children and his mother. The impersonated statements relating to (Tyler’s) mother are perhaps most hurtful given that she recently passed away. In 2008 one of the posts has 31 entries. Recently another blog by a person who uses the name Brady contains seven entries. Ah, the price the rich and famous pay for their fame and fortune.

DAVE MICHAELS (Culver City, CA) Jim...hope doing well. I have read all the "Jack Ruby" related newsroom & Russ Knight KLIF Studio information and the Warren Report etc. I knew your Radio Report would be able to answer my question...Jim- "You" just have the most informative people...have a great weekend from the State that someday may fall into the Ocean, and no one will care. In the words of Michael Savage - I could live in San Fran-sick-o. Dave Michaels, Culver City, CA

FRANK HALEY (Albuquerque, NM)
Thanks, I'm praying for you, Blessings, Frank (The Old Texan) Haley cjf Isa. 9:6 "When the sunshine of God's love meets the showers of our sorrow, the rainbow of promise appears."

BOB GRANT [Robert Hanger] (Houston-Jersey Village, TX)
I'm certain your sources have notified you of death of Nick Reynolds @75, Oct 1 in San Diego..one of founders of Kingston Trio. I had pleasure of working a show with them back in VA in about 1962. Advise if you need info. Make it a great weekend...BOB

CHARLES GEORGE (Dallas, TX) Hi. We are at least better off than the founder of the Kingston Trio who died today. Their performances inspired me to want to learn more about Folk Music. I also found out about others because of the group. I sent a link to your newsletter to several people yesterday. Charles George P.S. I will be keeping you in my prayers. I have learned to do it often it keeps me from being a prey... Ephesians 6 has always come in handy for me in times like these. Makes me think of a Hymn I use to sing when in grade school that was song at Sunday Night Services, In Times Like These.

STACEY NASSER MILLER (Houston, TX) Hello Jim, Thanks so much for writing. Michael will be missed greatly by my family and his many, many friends. And, thank you so much for adding me to your list. I thought I’d send Michael’s obituary so that you have all the information you might need. Hopefully this is a minor request, but the Dream Fund was very generous to my brother and his family during his illness and I would appreciate it if you could add remembrances be directed to The Dreamfund.org. I’ll look forward to seeing our comments. I appreciate your kindness during this difficult time. Stacey Nasser Miller, Research Director, Univision 45/TeleFutura 67 Houston

ROBERT REYES (San Antonio, TX) Hey there Jim...not to worry, I always keep good thoughts and prayers out for you and those of good faith...you have to forgive me it's just been crazy the past few days and couple of weeks for MOI with wnba finals, doing high school football, trying to keep our mother ship (clear channel, that is) afloat, and having an extended last weekend that put the fatigue factor in me big time! I still need to pass along my Tom Ellis moment to you and a transition in the woai radio news room with the leaving of one very good and competent reporter and getting back an equally great reporter who is quite multi talented...news reporter, part time high school teacher, AND he's a pilot formerly with the Civil Air Patrol...will try to correspond w/you in the near future so have a great weekend and we'll get back to you! Bobby R.

GENE HUGHES (Houston-Kingwood, TX) Jim keep publishing those wonderful stories from Harry Martin in San Diego. I'm thankful for you and Harry for sharing your stories with the rest of us. Keep them coming Harry. Many of your stories bring back great memories for many of us old broadcasters. Gene Hughes; Kingwood, Texas; Retired after 40+ years

MARK CARRILLO (San Antonio, TX) Jim, My son just helped me install my new SIRIUS radio. I wore out my first one. I also put my Sirius sticker on my back window to show my pride in Satellite and snub the people responsible for the demise of something we all loved...Radio. BUT I’M NOT BITTER!!! Hey to Tejas. Keep on newslettering. We all love it. Mark Carrillo; San Antonio (mySA.com)

ANDY CARR (San Antonio, TX) Jim, I never realized my friend Bill Thorman was such a wordsmith. I hired him away from a station in Bryan when I was managing KWBY in Edna,Texas, back in the early seventies, just before I replaced you at KBER. That was before he found his niche here in San Antonio. His statement about us being a dime a dozen until you get a half dozen is certainly accurate. Thanks to your paper I was able to reconnect with him after all these years. I've got your back Billy. Andy Carr, KBER, KMAC, KBUC, KKYX, San Antonio. KRAM, KVEG, KENO, KLSQ, Las Vegas.

TRIVIA ANSWER: Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney's first name is James.

VERNON KAY (Cleburne, Tx)
Jim Travis ask me to drop you an e-mail and let you know that he is getting settled in the new abode on the outskirts of Hot Springs, Ark. at this time he is able to read your reports and some of the e-mails but is unable to answer any of them. When I spoke with him this afternoon he was trying to hook up a puppy powered electricity making machine so he could find out what was going on in the outside world. He wanted me to let you know he is able to read your messages and will answer them as soon as Arkansas catches up with the outside world. Vernon Kay
