ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

TV REPORTER DIES A GRISLY DEATH
The headline of the Wednesday, October 22, 2008 issue of JRRR is TV ANCHOR SURVIVES BEATING but we now have very sad news. Little Rock, AR TV reporter Anne Pressly who suffers severe injuries when a deranged thug breaks into her house, beats and stabs her now dies from those horrible wounds. This totally shocks any normal human being beyond belief. Anne's family does not release any details because no words can describe the sadness this tragedy brings. Police have no suspects. The 26 year-old Anne Pressly is a young attractive woman who has a brilliant career ahead but everything comes to a schreeching halt on that horrible night. In Oliver Stone's new George Bush biopic, W., Anne plays the role of a Conservative TV reporter. Arkansas residents know Pressly from her chance interview with Vice President Dick Cheney. She captures Cheney in the ammo isle of a local sporting goods store. Anne's parents, Guy and Patti Cannady, release this statement: We are profoundly saddened to tell you that our dear Anne has lost her struggle for life. It was our hope, as was yours, that Anne would overcome the injuries inflicted upon her in the brutal attack at her home. We were with her in her last moments, and although our hearts are broken, we are at the same time comforted by our faith knowing that Anne is now with our Heavenly Father. The outpouring of compassion we have received is truly a testament to the way in which Anne has touched so many people in a positive way. Thank you for your prayers and your many acts of kindness. We are grateful for the wonderful care Anne received from her doctors, nurses and others at St. Vincent. Our lives will not be the same without her. We ask that you continue to pray for us as we struggle to move forward without our dear sweet daughter. We also ask that you give us the privacy we need at this very difficult time.

INTEREP FILES CHAPTER 7

Last minute efforts to save Interep do not pay off. David Kennedy, Interep CEO, announces that the independently-owned mega-rep goes into liquidation. Interep backer, Oaktree Capital, supports the company while it endures reorganization under Chapter 11 but the efforts prove futile. Oaktree states that it will not buy the rest of Interep. The mega company's first series of layoffs begin October 27-November 9, 2008. Interep loses radio groups Citadel, Cumulus and Radio One. CBS Radio, a major client of Interep, says the company improperly uses funds that belong to CBS which brings in as much as two-thirds of Interep's revenue. As Interep disappears, Katz Media, which Clear Channel owns, now dominates the national sales-rep field. And the beat goes on.

FRAN LANDSWICK [Clear Channel Radio] (San Antonio, TX) Sent: Fri 10/24/2008 To: ROBERT M REYES Subject: fred weiss Posted 2008-10-22 Fred Weiss, a founder of TMC, has passed away. It is with great sadness we report that charter TMC member Fred Weiss, who was so instrumental in the founding of the Texas Music Coalition (TMC) and served on its founding steering committee, passed away last Sunday, Oct. 19, following a brief illness. Fred, a longtime professor in the Radio/TV/Film department at San Antonio College, influenced a generation now serving in those fields, as well as many in the area music scene, in which he was also very active. Fred was program coordinator for SAC’s new Music Business Department and was known for his enthusiasm and dedication as a teacher. He was also a music publisher (Dukie & Yanaguana Music), video producer and co-founder of local film organization CineSA, which served the area cinematic community in past years. Formerly active in the old Texas Music Association’s S.A. chapter, when that statewide organization folded in early 1998 (putting an end to the local chapter as well) he was one of a handful of former TMA leaders who met informally to decide on a course of action. It was decided to hold a citywide planning meeting, calling on everyone involved in the area music scene who was interested to attend. Fred subsequently designed the flyer that was posted and faxed out for this meeting. Well, here TMC is 10 years later, due in large part to Fred’s input at our start. Over the years Fred organized and served on panels for TMC, served as a judge when we inaugurated our scholarship program, and was an invaluable resource whenever we needed advice or assistance. We last saw Fred when he attended our July panel on getting airplay for CDs. In June, he showed up at TMC’S annual Meet & Greet saying he’d gotten the word help was needed at the entry table, but could only stay for a little while. We already had a full crew for the first table shift, so he stayed on to enjoy the event a bit and posed for a picture with the TMC banner, which we’d hung outside Casa Chiapas. That photo is the opening one for the 2008 Meet & Greet in the Photo Gallery on this web site and will now serve as a tribute to Fred’s many contributions to the Texas Music Coalition over the years and a reminder of all the lives he touched with his generosity and enthusiasm. We will miss him greatly. Details on a memorial service for Fred will be posted as soon as we know them.

BOBBY REYES [Clear Channel WOAI-1200] (San Antonio, TX) Hi again, Jim...here is another bit of info on Fred's passing and a get together being planned...hope you will consider a mention in your newsletter. Bobby R.

DEBORAH M. MARTIN (San Antonio, TX) Subject: Remembering Fred Weiss. If you are interested, please feel free to be here, and pass the word along to others who might also be interested. Deborah M. Martin, Public Relations Director, San Antonio College
