ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

MCINTYRE LEAVES THE BUILDING
CNN announces on Friday, December 12, 2008 that it is redeploying some of its Washington-based correspondents on that day. This move puts Ed Henry in the role as Senior White House correspondent; Dana Bash, Senior Congressional correspondent and Jessica Yellin National Political correspondent. Other changes involve Correspondent Veronica De La Cruz who exits CNN along with Henry Mauldin head of on-air hiring. Jamie McIntyre, who covers the Pentagon since 1992, leaves CNN. Jamie writes an internal memo that he and CNN were unable to reach an agreement on another assignment, so after a friendly discussion, I decided to pursue other opportunities. CNN and I both agreed it was time for a change. Chris Lawrence is the new CNN Pentagon correspondent. Miles O'Brien also leaves CNN plus the entire science, space, environment and technology unit in Atlanta, GA falls to the ground. After the presidential election campaign, CNN's Washington-based correspondents take up battle stations in preparation of the new BHO administration plus the incoming 111th Congress. David Bohrman, CNN's SVP and D.C. bureau chief, declares, During the election, CNN's political reporters established themselves as the class of television news, both cable and broadcast. Now we're positioning them in key roles that will ensure the most thorough and informative coverage as President Obama and Congress tackle the thorniest problems America has faced in our lifetimes. This is the latest in a series of CNN evacuations. Are more to come? Don't touch that bat channel.

NO MORE HANNITY AND COLMES

Beginning on January 12, 2008, FOX News Channel program Hannity & Colmes at 9pm (ET) becomes just Hannity as Sean flies solo. If we remember for the past 12 years it's Hannity & Colmes as the dynamic duo of controversy. At first, anti-Colmes viewers rejoice dear hearts but after a moment of silence realize that no longer is Colmes on our TV screens for loud criticism. The new program's title is Hannity and The Great American Panel. It includes three in-studio guests nightly with three different outlooks on life: a liberal, an x factor and a conservative. There's a mix of commentary with features that include the Hate Hannity Hotline which is a collection of voice mails and videos from listeners who contradict Hannity on his daily ABC Radio Networks/Premiere Radio Networks Talk radio show. Bill Shine, FNC SVP/Programming, says, When Alan Colmes left us with a void we decided to build a new program utilizing Sean's signature talents rather than take on the monumental task of replacing someone as exceptional as Alan and attempting to rebuild a rare chemistry that is unlikely to ever be matched in cable television again.

EMAILS YES WE HAVE EMAIL

TOM ELLIS (Boston-Newton, MA) Thanks, Jim, for including the emails from Lee Baby Sims and Gary Allyn. They are among the Superstars of the Golden Era at KONO Radio. They, along with Howard Edwards, Jerry Miller (Mueller), Don Couser, Skinny Don Greene, Charlie Van, Ben Laurie, Doug China and a couple of others of that time, along with my news colleagues, Dick Porter, John Wilson, Coit Butler, and Jim Lawrence, absolutely ruled the ratings for a decade or more in Texas radio. They are the best there ever were or ever will be in the history of KONO. (www.necn.com/

JOHNNY ROSE (Nashville, TN) Dear Jim Rose Productions, My name is Johnny Rose and I work with Orbison Music Productions. Dec 6th marked the 20th anniversary of the passing of Roy Orison. We have two radio specials available as well as box sets for on-air prizing Throughout December we have a free download promotion just for signing a petition at Royorbison.com, to help get Roy a commemorative US Stamp. Roy’s last concert, recorded two days before his passing and never before released just became available last week exclusively at iTunes. Roy is launching into Rockband 2 next month. There is an all-star tribute album releasing in 2009. As you can see…Roy Orbison is a very busy man. We are requesting any awareness you might be able to provide in this regard. RON SELDEN (Palestine, TX)
Jim, Just see an e-mail asking the whereabouts of Jay Thomas (real name John Teekle) of the old album rock station KFMK back in '67. He was a good buddy of mine and I've lost touch with him over the years. If you find out anything about him, please drop me an e-mail. I would love to know where and how he is. Enjoy your newsletter very much. Ron

BOB GRANT [Robert Hanger] (Houston-Jersey Village, TX) Ref to inquiry on issue #594, 12/12 by Simon Walmsley of Tucson: subject, Perry Damone. Due to JRRR I have been in contact with Perry Damone; he is a salesman with Direct-TV in Phoenix & his father, singer Vic Damone is retired in south Florida area near Miami. Col. Robert Hanger

CHARLES GEORGE (Dallas, TX) I was listening to WSM and they mentioned it was snowing there. It is cold but I have enough heat in my apartment to stay warm for now. I even went bicycling around lunch time. I was able to hear tonight for a few minutes before it was wiped out by static a station whose call letters I hear stand for Keep The Resume Handy. I still remember when KVIL started playing oldies before bringing in the crew with Ron Chapman, Jack Schell(sp), Ron Wortham. That year my parents gave me a copy of the Lp Sounds Of Silence, Simon and Garfunkel. Strange how my mind associates things... Sometimes when walking I would take a longer route when I heard a song on the radio I liked. Charles

TRIVIA ANSWER: Garth Brooks is the first Country singer to sell over 10 million copies of an album. In 1990 Garth Brooks 2nd album, No Fences, dominates the charts. The album eventually shatters records with 13 million in sales. Some familiar tunes from the album are Friends in Low Places #1-1990, Unanswered Prayers #1-1990 and The Thunder Rolls #1-1991.

JIMMY RABBITT (Grand Junction, CO)
The next "Rock n' Blues Lab" with Jimmy Rabbitt Tuesday December 16th 2-5pm CDT on
http://KAFMradio.org/ "Back On The Beach" with Jimmy Rabbitt is Saturday December 20th. 3pm-6pm PST, 6pm-9pm EST, 11pm-2am GMT on 101.5 KOCI FM Newport Beach, California streaming on http://KOCIRadio.com

DAVID PERKINS (D/FW, TX) Subject: KBUY reunion. Bo (Powell) lives in River Oaks a suburb NW of Fort Worth. He said he didn't even have a computer. But Ron Rice has his phone number. Ron and his family live in Sugarland. How he had it I don't know. Jay and I of course go through you and the DFW DJs lunch bunch. Ron emailed me off my website several months ago. He told me about his father, who was a preacher, also. I didn't know that. I don't remember anything about goats at KPCN but as you may remember, it was out in a field south of Arlington or Grand Prairie and I would never, ever put anything past Bo.
