ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

THROW A SHOE AT BLAGOJEVICH
During a news conference on Sunday evening, December 14, 2008 in Baghdad, Iraq President George W. Bush dodges a shoe that someone in the room tosses at him. Not to be outdone, on Monday, December 22, 2008 from 8-9am Chicago, IL radio station WGN-720 AM Drive host John Williams and weekender Dan Deibert station themselves at WGN’s Showcase Studio on Michigan Avenue with a whole bunch of shoes. A mere $1 donation to the WGN Radio Neediest Kids Fund buys three shoe throws at Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. Of course it's just a life-size cutout of the politician.

O'REILLY'S RADIO REPLACEMENT

After 6 years as the host of The Radio Factor, Bill O'Reilly decides to leave his radio show to concentrate on his hot cable TV talk program. Westwood One, the largest independent provider of network radio programming in America is the producer. Remember presidential candidate Fred Thompson? On March 2, 2009 the star of TV's Emmy Award-winning NBC drama Law & Order Fred Thompson officially replaces O'Reilly with his new talk show The Fred Thompson Show which airs live from noon-2 pm Monday-Friday at the Westwood One studios in Washington D.C. In addition to his role in Law & Order, the native of Lawrenceburg, TN appears in several movies and TV programs that include No Way Out, In the Line of Fire, Die Hard II, Days of Thunder and The Hunt for Red October. In a news release Thompson says, When folks listen to a radio show, they make an appointment with it. It is the ideal way for me to continue my dialog with America about the issues we all face each day.

DAN ROSEN (Tokyo-Kamakura, Japan) Dear Jim, I've been out of town and unable to access JRRR for a while. Tonight, when I saw it for the first time in two weeks or so, I was sad to learn of your prostate problems. I hope and pray you will be well. Best, Dan (Rosen)

MIKE HARTMAN (Ft. Worth-Joshua, TX)
Jim...That really saddened me to hear of Dennis Yost's passing. The height of the Classic IV's career was during my high school years. I graduated in 1970. If you remember, another group did a cover of "Spooky" years later. They couldn't touch the Classics IV. My hats off to Bowser of Sha-Na-Na fame for his charitable efforts during Dennis' illness. Jim, thanks for another year of "JRRR". I can only imagine the countless hours of research and preparation you put into each edition. Thank you doesn't sound like enough. But, from the bottom of my heart...Thank you! Mike

WALTER HAMMOCK (Houston, TX) Jim I think h*** just froze over...you got an email from Jan and Arch Yancey! I guess the internet finally made it to Alvin and Arch FINALLY capitulated and got a computer! Tell the old f*** to get ready for some spring time Golf and that he MIGHT consider sending ME an email! OH and Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night! You'll be in my prayers Jimbo that surgery ain't no climb for a stepper, you'll do fine.

BILLY THORMAN (Ft. Worth, TX) When I was in Houston in '72 it was the suicide capitol of the United States. When I returned in 1980, it was the Murder Capital of the U.S. I will toss your name and needs into my prayer group. All the best! Billy t

GEORGE LESTER (Palestine-Elkhart, TX) Thanks jim, I will reply to John Hale. I was curious about which of my writings he was referring to. The other one, Bruce Nelson (Stratton), worked with me at KENR in '72 and '73. I have already contacted him throught the email address you forwarded. I have a few more funny tidbits about radio I'll send. I will keep them short. Thanks, George Lester

JOHN HALE (Austin-Cedar Park, TX) I was probably up while you were...i'm fighting a bout with the flu, and between the fever, the aches and pain, and the congestion, it's hard to sleep. That's why I wrote you this morning as early as I did...you and I just a couple of night guys! Thanks for passing on my email to George. I know of him, but don't know him, but I suspect we will get to know each other as we share a lot of radio stuff in common...not the least of which is location...one of my first full-time gigs was working KNET in Palestine with Fred Richardson and Ron Selden, both of whom made it back to the piney woods. I've always regretted moving from there, especially to move to KBST in Big Spring. I'm not a Permian Basin, west Texas kinda guy. Yours Truly, John Hale, Mobile Magic Music (33.Music) "We're at the best parties!"

RON SELDEN (Palestine, TX) Thanks for the reply, Jim. Hopefully, someone will know where the REAL Jay Thomas (John Teekle) is these days. We all attended the U of H from 1965 to 1967 and Jay was one of the first jocks to work the original KLOL. Ron

JAY THOMAS The other night on the David Letterman TV show I see Jay Thomas as a guest. He's a very witty comedian. Jay says that he once is a radio DJ in Charleston, VA. He now has a radio show on Sirus XM satellite radio plus he sits in for the infamous Howard Stern on Fridays. Is this the same Jay Thomas on which we speak?

DR. BRUCE NELSON (Corpus Christi, TX) Jim, Have a most Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Hope you get that prostrate problen under control. DrBruce KFTX in Corpus Christi. Toss in a Hi to George Lester.

BOB GRANT [Robert Hanger] (Houston-Jersey Village, TX) Merry Christmas to you & Tejas. Your friendship has meant a lot to me this year in Houston; may your new year be even brighter! Col. Robert Hanger & Sonny Lee.
