PATRICK SWAYZE IN THE HOSPITAL
As we mention in the December 19, 2008 Issue #597 of JRRR doctors give popular Hollywood actor Patrick Swayze a diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer in January 2008. Patrick's chemotherapy does not rid his body of the cancer plus it spreads to his liver. His lovely wife of 33 years Lisa Niemi stands firmly beside her man. Swayze says he is going through hell and doesn't think he can survive if it isn't for Lisa. Patrick stars in many great films such as Red Dawn, Black Dog,The Ghost, Dirty Dancing. He has a new role in an A&E TV series called The Beast. In July 2008, Swayze begins to film his new drama series The Beast where he plays an FBI veteran who goes by his own set of rules. John Romano, Executive Producer, says on Friday, January 9, 2009 Swayze only misses one day of shooting. William Rotko, creator of The Beast , says The cast and crew often forgot that Swayze was even sick. Travis Fimmel, Swayze's rookie partner in The Beast , says The sickest thing about him on set is probably his jokes. Patrick battles pancreatic cancer throughout 2008. He is very is upset with the rag mags' death watch. But on Friday, January 9, 2009 the 56-year-old Patrick Swayze checks himself into a hospital. He misses his press conference in Los Angeles to promote his new cable TV series. A&E President and General Manager Robert DeBitetto says, Patrick has asked me that I tell you that he has checked himself into the hospital this morning for observation after coming down with pneumonia. Chemotherapy can take a toll on the immune system, and illnesses are a part of that. This comes just days after we watch and hear him tell ABC's Barbara Walters that he prays for a miracle but admits that he doesn't have much time to live, I'd say five years is pretty wishful thinking. Two years seems likely if you're going to believe the statistics. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I'd better get a fire under it. I keep my heart and soul and my spirit open to miracles. I pray. We pray that a miracle envelopes Patrick Swayze and completely cures him of any traces of cancer. Patrick's new TV series The Beast debuts on A&E on January 15, 2009. DeBitetto says [Patrick] thanks everybody for all the outpouring of support that he's received recently. We hope to see him back on his feet soon.

CLASSIC COOL RENFROW
Longtime Houston, TX Pop Standards DJ-Big Band conductor Ronnie Renfrow is back in the radio saddle again this time on CBS Radio Talk KIKK-650 with Classic Cool Radio 650. Ronnie features the same basic Pop Standards format as before on the legandary KQUE FM (102.9) which is the sister station of Country KNUZ-1230. For decades David Morris is the original owner-GM of the two radio stations until he accepts an offer he cannot refuse. KQUE FM's Pop Standards format disappears in favor of a more Top 40 style. KNUZ's Country music vanishes. Its call letters switch into KQUE-1230 with the Pop Standards format but loyal fans rebel and go elsewhere for their music. Another sale. More changes. KQUE FM becomes KLTN FM with music from south of the border. The same goes for KQUE-1230. But Ronnie Renfrow brings the Pop Standards format back to Houston on KIKK-650 daily Monday-Friday from 4 pm until sign-off.

GEORGE LESTER (Palestine-Elkhart, TX) Hi Jim (and Jerry Miller), In answer to how many stations I have worked for. I once sat down and counted them. Once a fellow, who was known for his longevity, asked me "George, why do you move around so much?" I told him that when they fire me I can't see much sense in hanging around anymore. George Lester
