NEW INTERIM FCC CHAIRMAN

We mention in JRRR before that President-elect Barack Obama appoints his Harvard Law buddy Julius Genachowski as the new FCC Chairman. But that isn't yet the case. A string of events has to follow. He still needs Senate Commerce Committee approval. Then comes the full Senate confirmation. So, as Tom Taylor points out in his Web site, we may have Acting Chairman Michael Copps to kick around for awhile. Chairman Michael, the NAB and radio in general are not on the same Astro turf. Former FCC Chairman Dick Wiley says he thinks Julius Genachowski builds a commission that is tough on media mergers and acquisitions. Stay tuned to this same bat channel.

TRIVIA QUESTION:
In 1971, Three Dog Night's huge #1 hit Joy To The World has an odd opening line - Jeremiah was a bullfrog. What is the significance of those words? The answer appears below.

SIMON P. WALMSLEY (Tucson, AZ) Subject: Perry Damone. I inserted ‘where is Perry Damone who was a DJ in Phoenix’ in Ask.com. This is what I got; Jim Rose Remembers Radio Issue #538 Bob Grant. Since we are sharing questions, I bet your readers could answer: I knew DJ Perry Damone, KEZ, Phoenix http://news.jimroseremembersradio.com/2008/08/04/jim-rose-remembers-radio-issue-538.aspx This is how I got your email address but since you did not answer my question maybe someone else wrote that in relation to Perry Damone. For the 1st time this winter I turned on heat but not for very long since once it reached 70° I turned it off. I was born in England and I moved to Vancouver, B.C. in December, 1953. Then I moved to Seattle in 1956 where I was subject to the draft. A partner in my cousin’s law firm asked what I was going to do. He was an officer in a National Guard artillery unit and he convinced to go for the 6-month active duty and then 5 years in the unit. It did not take me long to realise that it was not for me so I signed up for 3 years active duty Airborne Unassigned. I spent almost all of the time at Ft. Campbell, KY. After my discharge I returned to Seattle where I wound up being a local truck driver for the railroad and I retired in 1997. Eventually I decided that the rain and cold that I experienced for most of my life was cause to relocate to a better climate. I love the heat here and once when a serviceman came to the house he asked if the aircon was broken. I said no as I liked it hot. It was 89° inside! So much for my rambling. Ciao, Simon P Walmsley

BOB CROWLEY (D/FW-Arlington, TX)
Indeed, it was David searching for KEXL that led him to JRRR and my e-mail address. He dropped me a line, which I picked up on. I sat on the CD for a couple of months, before tracking down Bobby Reyes. My first shot was to find another KEXL alum, Debbie Jecker, which led me to Carol Sowa, through the musicians association in S.A. I'm glad that Carol and Bobby are in the JRRR group, because they are good people, and have always treated me like gold. I treasure the other link-up's we've made, from Chapman Mott to Nick St. John. I hope there are many more to come. Hope big dogs like...treat you well. I've had some forgiving to do, which I guess has been done. I'm just glad I still have a position in this screwy business. Bob

JOHN VANVLECK (Austin, TX) KFMK was a jazz format in late 60s I turned on Jay to the Thirteenth Floor Elevators and the format went pretty radical maybe your contacts can remember him...are you familiar with Bobby "Ray" Eakin DJ was at Pacifica at same time. thanks JVV

DAVID PERKINS (D/FW, TX) Bo (Powell) lives in River Oaks a suburb NW of Fort Worth. He said he didn't even have a computer. But Ron Rice has his phone number. Ron and his family lives in Sugarland. How he had it I don't know. Jay and I of course go through you and the DFW DJs lunch bunch. Ron emailed me off my website several months ago. He told me about his father, who was a preacher, also. I didn't know that. I don't remember anything about goats at KPCN but as you may remember, it was out in a field south of Arlington or Grand Prairie and I would never, ever put anything past Bo. Tell you a DJ story. I had been fired by Roy Lemons at KBUY and was hired by Jack Gardiner on KBOX doing fill-in and Sunday mornings on the air and also worked for them full-time as production director. I was going by "David Perkins." I never did care for "Charlie Brown" but Lemons had cut station jingles at KBUY before hiring me and the next jock hired would be "Charlie Brown." Well, Fort Worth is my hometown and I wanted the job, so... Anyway, Bo was PD at KPCN and would have an engineer come in Sunday mornings and run recorded segues from a DJ between songs. Bo asked me if I would record some segues for him for the engineer to play. I did it as "Charlie Brown." So, here I am for a while before being hired on at KPRC Houston, on KBOX Sundays as "David Perkins" and my crosstown rival was none other than "Charlie Brown" on KPCN. Radio does some funny things! I don't know where Randy Ryder is. We talked an awful lot about Gene Kelly, now deceased, who worked on KBUY and went to KVIL, Dallas and then on to SA radio. great jock, one of the best! Do you ever hear from Charlie Seay of Houston, who went to Beaumont and also Paul Cannon of KTOW Tulsa? TRIVIA ANSWER:
In Three Dog Night's big hit Joy To The World songwriter Hoyt Axton uses the opening line Jeremiah was a bullfrog as a fill in until he finds a better line. But Rock group Three Dog Night like it and keep it in place. The song goes #1, remains at the top for 6 weeks with singles sales over a half million copies.

CLINT WRIGHT (Houston-The Woodlands, TX) Subject: Clint added you as a friend on Facebook. Hello Mr. Rose and Tejas! -C.

BOB GRANT [Robert Hanger] (Houston-Jersey Village, TX) This is short and true...says it all. Luke ''The Drifter'' says: "We Americans were tired of being thought of as dumb by the rest of the world. So we went to the polls in November and removed all doubt."

KARL MARX (May 5, 1818-March 14, 1883) There is only one way to kill capitalism, taxes, taxes, and more taxes!!!!!
