CELEBRITY MAGAZINE COLUMNIST PASSES INTO THE NIGHT
Longtime celebrity columnist for Parade magazine and prolific author who brings graceful writing and sharp observations all the way from fashion industry tycoons to Marine grunts on the Korean War battle zone passes away. James Brady dies at 80 on Monday, January 26, 2009 at his home in Manhattan's East Hampton. James comes to life in 1928. He begins his newspaper career as a copyboy for the New York Daily News. Brady's extensive writing career includes novels, as well as a memoir of his Korean War service. The NY Times praises James' 1990 memoir on Korea, The Coldest War, as a superb personal memoir of the way it was ... What distinguishes Mr. Brady's book is its clarity and modesty; there is no heroic flag-waving here. During his time with publisher Rupert Murdoch in the 1970s, Brady initiates the New York Post's popular Page Six gossip section. He joins the Hearst Corporation in 1971 and publishes its fashion magazine Harper's Bazaar. Murdoch hires Brady in 1974 to edit the then-new weekly Star magazine. He later becomes an associate publisher of the New York Post. His other contributions are too numerous to mention. But most of us fans know him best for his reports in Parade magazine. James writes the Parade magazine celebrity profile column In Step With for nearly 25 years. His final piece in Parade appears on February 15, 2009. James Brady's survivors are his wife, Florence; two daughters, Fiona Brady and Susan Konig; a brother, Monsignor Tom Brady plus other relatives.

SUPER BOWL ADS AT DISCOUNT
The Detroit News reports that most advertising slots for the 2009 Super Bowl that do not sell in September 2008 still are available. This is a far cry from earlier in 2008 when NBC TV announces this game's air time sells faster than usual. At presstime NBC TV still has 2 minutes of commercial time open for Super Bowl XLIII. That translates into four 30 second TV spots. The initial commercial spots sell for $3 million each but later drop to as low as $2.8 million. This is just above the base rate that Fox TV charges for its broadcast of Super Bowl XLII in 2008. Even with the last-minute struggle to unload air time, NBC still earns more than $200 million in ads from the game which is more than the $186.3 million Fox TV brings in in 2008. So far, the biggest advertisers for this Super Bowl game are Anheuser-Busch InBev with 4.5 minutes of airtime, with PepsiCo and Coca-Cola in 2nd and 3rd places. Super Bowl XLIII airs February 1, 2009 from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL between the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Where are the Dallas Cowboys?

MOSES DRUXMAN [grandson of the late Cal Druxman] (DFW-Azle, TX)
Good afternoon Jim! He (Cal Druxman) was a great man! Thanks for accepting my Plaxo membership. I'm not real familiar with Plaxo yet, but I plan on finding out more about it. McGruff is the crime prevention mascot you could say. McGruff is sponsored mainly by the National Crime Prevention Council, but many Police Department's and Sheriff Departments have an officer or deputy who will dress up as McGruff. McGruff is a dog that speaks to kids, teens, and at times adults about a wide variety of crimes. I work for the constables office and I dress up as McGruff and go to schools in our area speaking to kids about drugs, bullying, Strangers, and much more. As a student volunteer for the Azle Independent School District I have helped the administration plan many new things as in the homecoming parade, the teacher Convocation, new teacher orientations and several other things. I also attend most school board meetings to get a feeling of what is going on in my schools. I am basically a liaison between the students, teachers and the administration. My job for the school district is wide and varied. Yes I do plan on going into Politics either immediately after I graduate high school or after college. Politics is my passion. Several teachers, administrators, and students are trying to convince me to run for School Board my Senior year in high school, which is a large possibility. I want to be the person who does make a difference, the one politician that will listen to the people, whether they are rich, middle class, or poor they all have an opinion which should be heard. That's what I want to do. To make sure all voices are heard. I just arrived back from our nation's capital on Wednesday from the inauguration of out 44th President. Although I was not a supporter of Obama he is my President so I must show him some respect and support. We need to give him a chance to see how well or how bad he can do. Being on the National Mall during the inauguration with all two million people is a great feeling and definitely a once in a life time experience! If there is ever anything I can do for you please let me know! Sincerely, Moses Druxman

BOB CROWLEY (D/FW-Arlington, TX) Sorry, Jim, I thought you knew. I'm on Sun through Thurs nights (WBAP-820), and then again from 4am-noon Saturday. That's 48 hours a week on the clock... actually about 58 hours, but who's counting. I do the 6-8am newsblock, then top and bottom for the Car Guys Show and the financial advisor show. Turning around and working a day shift after 5 night shifts is a beating, but it's also a chance for me to stretch out and get creative. The Mason Williams interview is an example of that. Plus, it's some extra $$. Kevin and I worked together at KMSR radio back in '04, but he's had this weekend show with Jerry for about 7 years. It's his main deal, co-hosting, producing and selling time. The show is quite successful. I think they expanded into Houston within the past year, and moved to KILT a few months ago. Kevin was working with Green Radio, at KAND in Coriscana, but I guess it never got off the ground. I don't know bout you, but I'd hate to work for any station that called itself "Canned", cause I've been canned a few times, and it's not fun. bc

GEORGE LESTER (Palestine-Elkhart, TX) When I worked there (KAPK in Minden, LA) it evidently was a completely different building. It's been 55 years so I have forgotten a lot. I remember the entrance door opened into a big studio for groups. On the wall to the left was the control room door. We sat facing the big studio and the transmitter was behind us. My back was only inches away from transmitter controls. The lake was to our left as we sat at the control board. I would sometimes run out to the lake and cast a few times while a long record was on. Once I caught a bass. landed it and ran back into the control room to catch the end of the record all out of breath. At the time I worked there they still had downtown studios like so many stations had at the beginning before they started being practical and moving the studios to the transmitte site. They only used the downtown studios for special occasions though. They were probably long gone by the time you got there. KAPK had two salesmen who were really into Gospel music and they were slowly but surely going all Gospel. That's when I decided to look elsewhere and went to KDBC in Mansfield.

JAY LENO (April 28, 1950-p) With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?
