ANOTHER BELOVED TX TV NEWS ANCHOR PASSES
As I attend Kimball high school in the 1950s and 1960s in my home town Dallas, TX our premier TV news anchor is Bob Gooding on ABC WFAA TV CH8. His news delivery and warm smile is like a good friend who just happens to stop in to let us know what happens in the world around us. Never in my wildest dreams do I think that not only do I get into radio in my home town but also on the same team with Bob Gooding at WFAA. One night while I'm on the air on WFAA-820, Gooding comes upstairs to chat with the TV audio crew. See him as I rush down the hall way. In person, Bob is a giant of a man. He's not overweight - just a huge fella. Another great TV and radio news anchor Murphy Martin is also onboard WFAA's news crew at the time. Likewise Murphy is one of the very best TV news anchors anywhere. Martin leaves us last year. Now both Bob and Murphy are gone but their wonderful  memories remain with us.

MIKE SHANNON (Dallas-Mesquite, TX) Hi Jim, just letting folks know that longtime DFW news anchor Bob Gooding passed away last Saturday (4/18) in Tyler, TX at 76 years old. He had been battling cancer for some time. He anchored at WFAA-TV from 1961-79, and concurrently did news for the old WFAA-AM. After WFAA, Gooding spent time at KTWS-TV Channel 27 in Dallas, doing short news cut-ins between shows, and by the mid-80s, was co-hosting the morning show at KAND-AM in Corsicana, TX, with a nice fellow named Alan Barnes. (Barnes is currently my cohort at WBAP-AM traffic here in DFW.) Gooding also taught journalism at Navarro Community College. He eventually moved to Tyler, where he was a fixture on the newscasts at KETK-Channel 56, the NBC affiliate there. I understand that Bob had been in ill health for some time, and I'm not sure how long he spent on the air there in Tyler. Funeral services will be this Saturday (4/25) at 1:30PM at Burks-Walker-Tippit Funeral Home, 215 E. Front St, Tyler, TX. For information or directions, call them at 903/592-6553. webmaster@ferlinhusky.com Hi folks! We wanted to give everyone an update on Ferlin's condition. If you haven't heard, Ferlin was hospitalized last Friday with congestive heart failure and pneumonia. He was admitted to St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Mo. It was a bit of a rough go at first, but doctors are optimistic that he will be back home by the end of the week or shortly thereafter. His close friend and touring partner, Leona Williams, is by his side, and he has received many calls from others in the entertainment world. We will keep you informed of his progress. LARRY SCOTT (Dallas-Terrell, TX)
I did see Ray (Price) and Willie (Nelson). Ray is one of God's special people to have a voice like that at his age. I can't think of anyone else in music that has been blessed with that quality into their eighties. Dale Morris Jr, fiddle player, is beyond great and Jim Losberg from Roundrock is a fantastic steelman. Isn't Huckabee great? Larry

A few days ago I mentioned to a few of you (after watching the wonderful performance by the Scots lady who has become an overnight sensation) that I had recently seen a DVD of Rod Stewart from Prince Albert Hall in London. During his show, he brought on a young woman who had been a "street performer" in Glasgow just two weeks previously. He invites her to London, where she will perform one song with him. Amy Belle is magnificent. Check this out. And, if you ever get a chance to see Rod Stewart in person, he is absolutely worth anything you have to pay for your ticket.
