ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

LOOK! UP IN THE SKY! IT'S SUPERMAN!
Remember the man who is faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? From 1978 to 1987, we glue our eyes to the silver screen in awe as Christopher Reeve portrays Superman. Lois Lane is his paramour. Personally, in 1979 I also recollect my time on Houston's Super 79 KULF-790 when we wear our T-shirts with the huge unmistakable red and yellow ‘S’ emblem on our chests. Well, the real McCoy Superman III costume goes on the auction block in Aussieland's Melbourne mega-tropolis on May 24, 2009. Auctioneers expect the blue Superman leotard with its red and yellow ‘S’ logo, pair of red shorts and yellow belt to fetch between $15,000 and $20,000. This particular Superman uniform has slits in its side for cables to suspend Reeve as he mimics flying scenes in Superman III. We rarely see Superman suits on the auction block. If we hurry we can catch a glimpse of Lois Lane's idol's costume at Bonhams and Goodman, 540 Malvern Rd, Prahran on May 22nd and 23rd before it hits the auction floor on the 24th. Don't be square! Be there! Be there!

LOUISVILLE NAMES STREET AFTER TV REPORTER
The Louisville, KY Metro Council passes a resolution that a stretch of Armory Place next to WHAS TV’s headquarters name changes to Chuck Olmstead Way in honor of a long time TV journalist. Chuck, who is a 34 year newsman for Channel 11, dies on March 10, 2009. The resolution declares that Olmstead is a valued and respected news reporter. The message also states that he won many local and national awards and will be remembered for his thorough, in-depth coverage of major news stories. It says that many of his stories focused on helping people in need. Olmstead also appears on TV stations in Boston; NYC; Washington, D.C. and Hartford, CT. The Louisville city Public Works Department erects the street sign near the intersection of Chestnut Street and Armory Place. Metro Council president David Tandy (D-4th District) is the sponsor.

EMAILS YES WE HAVE EMAIL

REJINA BROWN (Seattle, WA) Jim, I sincerely understand the affection and attachment we have with our beloved pets. I share my condo with Felix (a dog trapped in a cat's body.. ;-} I will pray for the new Akita to come and help absolve some of your pain. By the way, I sent an inquiry to the email address you provided (thanks!!!) and will keep you updated. Peace and Blessings... Rejina

JIMMY RABBITT (Grand Junction, CO) Jim, I know that words won't help, but I wish I had some to pass along anyway. From the very first JRRR when you spoke of Kei-Kou it was obvious that you are a real animal lover. When Tejas arrived in 2005 after your loss, I remember thinking how wonderful it was that you found another companion. All I can say is reading your account of her death brought me to tears twice, and they are still there. I wish I had a puppy for you, but maybe someone can help? I know for sure that being alone is the worst thing in the world! your friend, conejo "Back On The Beach" with Jimmy Rabbitt Saturday May 16th, 2009 from 3PM-6PM PDT 6PM-9PM EDT 11PM-2AM GMT on 101.5 KOCI FM Newport Beach, California. BOB CROWLEY (D/FW-Arlington, TX)
Jim; I received word that Rick Wais, the morning news anchor for the Texas State network is in the hospital. He apparently suffered a stroke early Monday morning. I checked with TSN's Doug Helton, who passed along word that, while it is serious, he is recovering. Rick is one of the best and nicest people in the business. He has more than 25 years under his belt with TSN. Let's pray for a speedy recovery. Bob Crowley

NOREEN (Lake Jackson, TX) Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner but my computer server was down for repair for 2 days. I know there was nothing that I could do but hopefully our conversation if anything else helped passed the time until the church members helped you. Which is a blessing. I know the loss that you feel when we loose our babies early and unexpectedly, I myself am still trying to get over Pepper's death, I can only thank God that he allowed me to be there when he passed. There are so many heartless people out there whom don't care for their animals it is unbelievable. Sorry about the rambling on and may you find your best friend and provide her with a loving forever home. Thank you, Noreen; Pets Are Us Rescue (

DAN GALLO (Houston, TX) Jim, So sorry to hear about Tejas! I concur with my friend, R.B. McEntire. There are so many "special buddies" who need a home and the love that goes with one. Every Thursday morning, Meera Nandlal with the Houston SPCA brings a "guest" onto the show for adoption. Some of the stories behind these animals, especially the rescue stories, will bring a lump to your throat. I always enjoyed reading your notes about Tejas. Hang in there, my friend! Dan

ROBERT B. MCENTIRE (Houston, TX) God knows Tejas is gone and he will arrange for a new little sweetheart to enter your life. Things will get better in a hurry. Hang in there.

WALTER HAMMOCK (Houston, TX) God bless my friend, you'll never forget her I know.

BOB GRANT [Robert Hanger] (Houston-Jersey Village, TX) Sad news...just learned Sun aft...have not been on-line since Thursday evening; I worked Sat 10-3 to help them out. I await details. Please accept my sincere condolences & I am thinking of you; so sorry this happened. BOB & Sonny Lee

TRIVIA ANSWER: In 1949, RCA produces the 1st 7" vinyl 45 rpm record with the large center hole. This pretty much ends the reign of the large fragile 78 rpm record. Next arrivals are 8-track tapes, cassettes, CDs and who knows what else?

DEAN DANIELS (Dallas-Lewisville, TX) Oh no! What happened? Tejas was too young and sweet. Jim, I'm so sorry for your loss...Tejas was such a sweet dog and certainly gave you some exercise on her walks. Cindy and I lost our beloved Shar-Pei/Lab mix last August at age 13 and it was like losing our own kid. We cried for weeks. Then we rescued a beautiful Shar-Pei/Lab mix we named "Denny" (after William Shatner's Denny Crane character) and he's been just wonderful. Nevertheless, there's no replacing Skippy, but there is room in our hearts for another family member. Will you be looking for another Akita? Dean

KEI-KOU my precious Akita girl doggie develops severe hip and joint problems. She has to be put asleep in August 2005 at 9 or 10 years of age. December 2005 is when another precious Akita girl doggie Tejas arrives in her real home here in Houston, TX from a not so good life in Tulsa, OK. When I take a nap last week she runs away and must consume some poison outside somewhere. Tejas dies at 5 am on Friday, May 8, 2009. This devastating shock continues to stop my entire world! Because I rescue both Akita girl doggies not sure of their actual ages. Both of my Akita girl doggies are beyond the greatest treasures to behold. They are the most gorgeous and sweet doggies on the face of God's green earth. Another Akita girl doggie must quickly come to my rescue because the sadness and loneliness are unbearable. Through JRRR Tejas has many fans all over the world especially our teammates who meet Tejas in person. Just ask Dr. Jeff Cunningham, his daughter Zoe; Dean Daniels and his wife Cindy; Bob Grant and wife; Mike Marshall, Mike Cannon, John Hale and Andy Waldrop. As long as the tributes continue to arrive we carry on our memorial service on the loss of my very best friend and companion, Tejas Akita girl doggie, as she crosses over the Rainbow Bridge.

WILL ROGERS (November 4, 1879-August 15, 1935) If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went..
