THE EAGLE FLIES IN HOUSTON
As soon as their non-compete expires, on June 1, 2009 Dean & Rog, longtime morning team on cross-town Classic Rock KKRW FM (The Arrow 93.7) Houston, TX debut their new show on Classic Hits KHTC FM (K-Hits 107.5). In preparation for the move Cox Radio flips the KHTC FM call letters to KGLK FM. Originally the call letters are KLDE FM on 94.5 but switch frequencies with KTBZ FM (107.5). Way back in April, Cox-Houston registers 1075theeagle.com. Can the new KGLK FM be another Eagle in the Cox box? Already there is The Eagle in Jacksonville and Tampa, FL. Stay tuned to this Bat channel.

GENE STUMP (Baltimore, MD) Hello Jim, I have lived my entire life in Baltimore, Md. I am strictly a fan, grew up listening to WCAO radio and taped all my favorite songs on a reel-to-reel recorder. Back in 1983 I was preparing to move and packed up all my tapes and stored them temporarily in a family garage. The garage burned down and I lost all my music. The quality of music has vastly improved since the 1960's as it went from 8 tracks, to cassettes, to CD's and now digital. I have replaced all the songs and they sound 10 times better, but my mission will not be complete until I replace all the wonderful, wacky 7-Eleven commercials. In the last 10 years I have really beat the bushes trying to track them down. DJ Steve Eberhart had the ones from 1966 and graciously sent them to me. I wrote to 7-Eleven as a last resort, and they were happy to inform me these commercials are not 'lost', they still have them in their vaults, BUT, they cannot issue them to any person or entity due to expired royalty rights. In other words, they are 'lost' to people like me. I have scanned countless airchecks from the summer of 1967 and cannot believe none of them contained a single 7-Eleven commercial. I have now concentrated my searching to the Texas area, as that seems to be my best hope. Two people have told me Dan McCurdy might be able to help me. I would really appreciate your help in contacting Dan, Thanks, Gene Stump
JENNIFER BROOKINS-VIHARO (Atlantic City-Pittsgrove, NJ) Oh honey, I’m so sorry. My internet connection has been out for several days. Oh Jimmy – just know that she went straight into the arms of Jesus…a wonderful place to be. It’s the ones that are left behind that suffer... We too lost a little pet and we went straight to the pound and got another…her name is Katie and she is just wonderful. No pet can ever replace Tejas – but you could give a little animal destined for a not so happy ending a good home. And what better place to be than with you. I’ll keep you in my prayers honey. Jen
SUKOSHI RICE (Blairsville, GA) Hi Jim, your email address is part of Jim Rose remembers Radio, which I found when I googled your name as Miles' manager in 1973, when said story took place. Sukoshi is my first name. Lunch was with friends. Topic was something along the lines of "just when I really started wondering what was going to happen next..." and I told my Barcelona story, which was meaningful for me as a moment when Fate took care of me, again. I am in Blairsville, GA and I wonder if you are the same person as the guy in 1973 Barcelona. And are you a native English speaker? You say "do" in your email where I would say "did." I like reading JRRR. Thanks for writing it. Sukoshi

MIKE HARTMAN (Ft. Worth-Joshua, TX) JIM, I hope you're doing well. I agree with several of your friends. I think it would do you the world of good to get another dog...soon. We lost a very talented singer, songwriter, guitar player extraordinaire, producer and actor on May 9, 2009...Stephen Bruton. I'm attaching a copy of an article The Fort Worth Star-Telegram did on his life. Take care of yourself. Mike
DEAN DANIELS (Dallas-Lewisville, TX) Hi Jim, The adoption process can be slow, but getting the right new family member is the main priority. It's tough right now losing Tejas, but give it a little time and expand your options if you like. We rescued Denny from nearby Trophy Club (and he was the only Shar-pei mix in Dallas too) where he was being kept at the local police department. The people there loved him too (and gave him a lot of toys as a going away present) and took a liking to Cindy and me. Their animal control was in the back of the police station with only a couple of pens for dogs (only Denny and one other were there at the time). The police chief himself approved us to rescue Denny and they gave him to us at no charge (with one officer insisting that he carry Denny out to our Xterra because "he doesn't walk well on a leash"...big galoot had fallen in love with Denny himself but couldn’t keep him). Of course our "free" dog of course had to get the full vet check and shots plus neutering, but since we got him last September he's fit in beautifully and has stolen our hearts much like Skippy did. Petfinder.com led us to him and is an excellent resource that updates and changes daily. Hang in there! Dean (www.cmtcountry.com)
RAY WHITWORTH (D/FW-Arlington, TX) Subject: TEJAS dies! I am sorry to hear that Jim. Dogs are not just dogs, they are family, my Chihuahua Britches will be 16 in October. She and I have been through a lot together. She is my friend and confidant. I know the loss is painful, but take in that you gave your pet love and devotion and she returned that many times over. No words can truly ease the pain only strengthen the memory. All my compassion Ray
ANDY WALDROP (Houston, TX) Subject: TEJAS dies! OH NO! Jim, I am so sorry. Had she been ill? I know she wasn't old. She may have gotten a hold of some transmission fluid on the ground while she was making her rounds the day she escaped. They say transmission fluid has a good taste to animals...but it will kill them. I'd hate to think that somebody would poison her on purpose. There just isn't any reason, or excuse, for anybody to do that to a dog like Tejas who isn't a pest or threat. Anyway, again, my sincerest condolences. Try to get some rest.
TRIVIA ANSWER: Simon & Garfunkel's 5th and final record album Bridge Over Troubled Water which releases in January 26, 1970 is their biggest ever LP plus it contains 4 hit singles. The album is #1 both in the USA and Australia.
J.R. KENNEDY (Houston, TX) Jim I am so very sorry...I know it is very tough on you right now. My little girl Annie died on St Patrick’s Day last month. She had been with me for the last 8 1/2 years (she was about 15). I sure miss her still. But they will always be with us in our hearts. And know that you made Tajas' life better. We all will pass and perhaps then we can be together again.
