HAVE A HAPPY AND SAFE MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!

ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

UK MISSES SCOTTISH SONGBIRD Susan Boyle steps up to the mic again on Sunday night, May 24, 2009 for the semifinals of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent. Problem is UK fans cannot see the telecast. Instead, fans have to wait for her performance on YouTube. Sara Lee, mouthpiece for the production company that backs Britain’s Got Talent, says Licensing issues prohibit a live broadcast of the program in this country. In April the middle-aged choir singer quickly wins over the insensitive hearts of America’s Got Talent judges Simon Cowell and Piers Morgan. She is an instant sensation. Susan Boyle fan sites pop up all over the Internet. Susan's audition of Les Miserables’ I Dreamed a Dream scores a whopping 186 million hits. Cathy Perron, director of the TV program at Boston University’s College of Communication says This has to do with economics. This is a producer saying, ‘If you want to use and make money from it, where is my cut?’ Talent’s producers have kept access to the unlikely star tightly managed.

END OF THE LINE FOR KATHY & JUDY

For the past 20 years Tribune columnist Kathy O’Malley and Sun-Times columnist Judy Markey have a talk show on Tribune News/Talk WGN-720 in Chicago, IL. But WGN announces that K&J's mid-morning show must move on as someone else fills their shoes. WGN mentions no names of their replacement. Tom Langmyer WGN VP/GM says their exit is a business decision that is the result of a changing media marketplace. However, the dynamic duo remains in WGN's building to voice commercials.

MARY LYNN KNOCHELMAN (Cincinnati, Ohio) I'm so sorry! How old was she? What happened? I have two dogs of my own. I went through what you are going thru 2 years and 4 years ago with my Dalmatians. My girl dog Stacey (9 years old) had to be put to sleep due to bladder cancer. My boy dog Chance (13 years old) died in our back yard. Both times my family grieved for a few months and then went to the SPCA and adopted a 3 year old girl beagle named Holly (in 2005) and a 9 month old Jack Russell Terrier named Ricky (2007). Unfortunately dogs don't live as long as humans, but we love them as much as humans and treat them like members of our families. Their love toward us is unconditional and they make great companions. That's why I recommend after your grieving period is over, you should get yourself a new doggie. Yes. It's painful when they die and I know it's going to happen again with Holly and Ricky, but I'm praying it's many years in the future. In the meantime I enjoy all the fun times I have with them. But Chance, Stacey, and before them Sweetie (fox terrier), Lisa (German shepherd), Mitsy and Boots (mother & daughter...mixed breeds), and Mortmaduke (Morty...boxer/great-Dane combo) and GiGi, white boxer (actually the grandparents of Boots & great grandparents of Mitsy), all hold a special place in my heart for all the joy they gave me throughout my entire life, and I'd like to believe that when I go to heaven someday all of them will be there to greet me as well as all my deceased family members and friends. You have to have faith that you'll meet Tejas again someday in heaven! Mary Lynn Knochelman

REJINA BROWN (Seattle, WA) Jim, I sincerely understand the affection and attachment we have with our beloved pets. I share my condo with Felix (a dog trapped in a cat's body.. ;-} I will pray for the new Akita to come and help absolve some of your pain. By the way, I sent an inquiry to the email address you provided (thanks!!!) and will keep you updated. Peace and Blessings... Rejina

DEBRA COX (Dallas, TX)
Subject: The OLD KQUE Radio Station in Houston, TX. Hello there – Every time I visited Houston up until a few years ago, I would tune in to KQUE with it’s easy listening play list – and then they vanished from the air waves. Is there a comparable station in Houston now – and what about Dallas??? Thanks for your reply. Debra Cox

CHUCK DUNAWAY (Houston, TX) Jim: I know you miss Tejas... I felt your pain as I read your email and wept... Chuck D

RON SELDEN (Palestine, TX) Jim, You've got the right idea about getting a new puppy right away. This happened to us about five years ago when our little Shi' Tzu, Rachael, passed away suddenly. My wife and I were so grieved, we couldn't do anything but sit and cry. Four days later, we went out and got another baby Shi' Tzu, who's still with us today. It helped with the loss, as we transferred all of our love for Rachael to the new puppy, Chloe. We still can’t talk about Rachael without tearing up. It really is like losing a member of the family, sometimes worse, depending on the family. The dark days will get better. Meanwhile, do your grieving for Tejas. She deserves it. Ron

CLINT WRIGHT (Houston-The Woodlands, TX) Jim, so sorry to hear about Tejas. Those of us that are "dog people" and have known that kind of loss know how painful it is. You're in my prayers.

MIKE HARTMAN (Ft. Worth-Joshua, TX) Subject: TEJAS dies! Jim, I'm very saddened to hear about your losing TEJAS. As you remember from one of my previous e-mails, I lost my Chihuahua, Peanut, back in January. He was nearly 14. I have an 8x10, framed picture of him sitting on a table right beside my recliner. I miss him a lot Jim, although we've never met, I know Tejas had a caring friend in you and a warm, loving home. Again, I'm sorry about your loss. Also Jim...thank you for all the efforts you put into "JRRR". May God richly bless you. Mike

BLAKE LINDSAY (D/FW-Addison, TX) Jim, I am very sorry to hear this. I just said a sincere prayer for you and I am as sorry as I can be to hear all of this. Jennifer is sick about it also. We love animals way more than average and we know you do too. Blake (

FR. BOB TOMLINSON (Ft. Worth, TX)
Jim I’m so very sorry to hear this. My thoughts and prayers are with you. "Serve God and be cheerful" Bob Dylan. Fr. Bob Tomlinson

DAVID PERKINS (Fort Worth, TX) Subject: TEJAS dies! Jimbo, I'm so sorry to hear that! But rest assured that Tejas is in dog heaven watching over you and you will see her again! David Perkins (

CHARLES GEORGE (Dallas, TX)
Subject: TEJAS dies! Sorry to hear about your loss. They say all dogs go to heaven. Like old soldiers. Makes me think of the song Turn Back The Hands Of Time, Tyrone Davis. Not sure the year it came out. I knew my life was changing when Gerry Mulligan, Miles Davis, and my favorite singer Lou Rawls left the scene. I went on a visit to Commerce. I noticed things there I had not seen in the past and other things gone that I once had seen. Made me think of a play my high school did my senior year, Our Town. Have you seen the movie, A River Runs Through it. Take Care, Charles

TRIVIA ANSWER: On September 11, 1977 Bing Crosby and David Bowie record The Little Drummer Boy and Peace On Earth for Bing's Christmas TV special. On October 14, 1977 Crosby dies of a heart attack. He never gets to see the final product.

WENDEL HULSE (D/FW-Grand Prairie, TX)
Jim: I can not imagine receiving a sadder message from you. My deepest regrets. Wendel Hulse

ROBERT SOUTHEY (August 12, 1774-March 21, 1843) There is another world for all that live and move — a better one!
