JOHN LACKNESS (San Antonio-Schertz, TX) Subject: Steve Schott. Jim, This came to me a few days ago from Jack Sellmeyer about the passing of Steve Schott of Continental Electronics. Have known Steve for many years and tried to talk to him every couple of weeks or at least once a month to just shoot the bull. Quite a history behind this man, and I am going to miss our conversations and humor. The copy of his email to all of us is as follows: 'Gentlemen: I received word from Steve Schott's family this morning that Steve passed away last night from a massive heart attack. Steve was a long time member of SBE Chapter 67, serving as program chairman for several years. He came to the Dallas/Ft. Worth market in 1974 as Chief Engineer of KLIF-1190, working for Fairchild Broadcasting following many years with the McLendon organization, first as Chief Engineer of WWWW (FM), Detroit, Michigan and later as Chief Engineer of McLendon's 1390 operation and its associated FM station in Chicago, Illinois. Steve began work with the Collins Radio division of Rockwell International about 1975 in the Broadcast Field Service Department. After about two years in Field Service he transferred to Broadcast Sales where he served the Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana area until Collins shut down the Broadcast operation in November, 1980. Steve then worked in Sales for several years with Continental Electronics in the same territory until he left to work for Harris. Steve sold for Harris for several years before moving "down the street" to Broadcast Electronics where he sold for several years until a change of management resulted in several salesmen leaving the company. At that time he returned to Continental where he was responsible for sales in most of the western half of the country for the past few years. Steve and Donna have two sons and one daughter and have resided in Glen Rose for the past fifteen or so years. He will be missed. Jack J. S. Sellmeyer, P. E.' LEON BECK (Houston-Friendswood, TX)
Jim. hope you can help me on this. I'm trying to find Rusty Clark and Jeff Mack. They both did radio shows from Gilley's. Jeff was on KENR and Rusty was on KILT. thanks. Leon Beck (
www.musiccitynews.com)

JEFF MACK
is a friend since the early 1980s when we both are DJs on KENR-1070 here in Houston, TX in a tall tower in Greenway Plaza. What a great radio station! Jeff McLaine (Jeff Mack) is a relative of the deceased Hal McLaine. Both are DJs on KENR-1070 during my time there from 1981-82. Jeff is mid-days and Hal does PM Drive. Hal is a stunt pilot. He dies in a plane crash at a show on a Saturday morning in 1982. Jeff has a thriving legal video business. He lives north of Houston in Cleveland, TX. His email address is
jeff@legalvideocom.com. Do not know Rusty Clark but the name is familiar. When I ease out of Radio in September 2001 to join Shell oil as a drafter/geo-tech for some semblance of security I drift away from the radio dial. That song Drift Away by Dobie Gray from 1973 has a huge hold on me especially since the loss of my precious Akita girl doggie Tejas. It's one of the greatest songs ever recorded. Every single note of the tune is absolutely perfect. Listen to the song and you understand my feelings.

CARLA SPRINGER (Dallas-Allen, TX)
So sorry to hear about your loss. Our pets are our best friends and losing them is just like losing a human friend. If you are in the market for an Akita I know there's an Akita rescue team in the Dallas area and probably one in Houston. I became acquainted with these dogs through my cousin in California (a native Texan), who runs an Akita rescue service A Passion for Paws. Positive thoughts are streaming you way and upwards by your many friends. God Bless. Carla Springer, radio junkie in the Dallas area.

BOB GRANT [Robert Hanger] (Houston-Jersey City, TX)
Good evening, Jim. Thx for thinking of me w/late, breaking news, & do appreciate your thoughtfulness. Make it a better week ahead. BOB

JOHN HALE (Austin-Cedar Park, TX) Jim, From one dog lover to another, you know I'm very sad for you that Tejas passed on. Rather than to say you should immediately get another dog, I'll say there's a grieving process you have to go through first, and I'm here for you anytime you want to talk about and remember Tejas. My Maxie's just barely survived a dog thing this weekend himself. He ate or was given something at doggie daycare last week that lodged in and blocked his intestines. We wound up taking him to the animal emergency clinic in northwest Austin, and Friday night, he had a quarter of his intestines taken out. It's still touch and go, but he's improving, and hopefully, he'll come through this like the tough little trooper he is. Maxie's a very big part of my family, as Tejas was to you. I hope you'll keep Maxie in your prayers, as you are in mine. Yours Truly, John Hale, Mobile Magic Music "We're at the best parties!"

Jim, Going to have to get you another pup. We get attached to our pets, we have lost several of them around here...now just have one cat, but this cat is a good one and smart and no trouble at all...so surely can get attached to them.
