The Austin City Limits TV series is in its 35th season on PBS. Austin, TX is a music empire for decades. That's why legends like Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings go back to the basics in Austin. BRIT FOOTBALL EXPENSIVE
The most successful clubs in soccer's richest league are in deep debt. To us statesiders, English football is soccer. UK newspaper The Guardian reports that the 20 English Premier League clubs are up to their noses to the tune of £3.1 billion. In October, 2008, Lord Triesman, FA chairman, puts English football's level of debt at £3 billion, which includes the Football League clubs and the FA. Manchester United and Chelsea are at the top of the debtor’s table with £699 million and £701 million. The Arsenal places 3rd with £416 million in debts. The Liverpool owes around £280 million. Many soccer fans worry that due to the global economic crisis it's just a matter of time before a Premier League club buckles under.

BOB MILLER (Detroit-Plymouth, MI) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#695) August 05, 2009 [Wednesday] Jim, Going through my old radio tapes from 1967 I found a few air checks belonging to Jeff Britt who was at KBUC then. I was a newscaster there for a little while. As I recall he left to drive a bus. But, he was a talented guy. He also had an aircheck with the name Les Michaels from somewhere in the Midwest. Any idea where he might be today? I'm sure he would enjoy having them. Bob Miller
KBUC FM-AM From August 1968 to late 1970, I'm Program Director/Music Director/PM Drive DJ on KBUC FM-AM. In the summer of 1969 a former KBUC DJ who then drives a big Continental Trailways long haul bus decides that he wants to be back on the air. He talks to KBUC GM Harrel Banks who asks if I let him go back on the air on KBUC. The fella must use another name because I do not recall the name Jeff Britt. Of course, this may be another person. The fella goes about the whole idea to return to the air on KBUC in totally the wrong way. He should first talk with me not the GM because I'm the PD. So we start off on the wrong foot. Soon discover that the guy is very cocky. Another problem. The very next day right after I get off the air at 6pm he visits KBUC but he acts like he owns the radio station. He enters the production room to make some kind of tape. Problem is the guy has a strong smell of alcohol on his breath. This creates a hornet's nest for this guy. So, I call Harrel to let him know about the situation. HB says to tell the guy to leave the KBUC building. Never see or hear from him again. This may very well be another person.

TONYA ENGLISH-JACKSON (San Antonio, TX) Subject: Paul Allen English KITE Radio San Antonio. Dear Mr. Rose, I read through your site on Jim Rose remembers. Do you have anything about my dad, Paul Allen English? I have been trying to find any articles or information I could read. I would appreciate anything you could tell me. JOHN HALE (Austin-Cedar Park, TX) Hey Jim, Just a quick note to let you know that I'd be pleased to be your campaign manager for the Capitol area for next year's vote on inclusion into the Texas Broadcasters Hall Of Fame. It's not a real Hall Of Fame unless you're part of it. After all, if we can run Kinky Friedman for Governor, we can surely turn out the vote to get you where you belong! Put me in touch with the guys from other parts of the state that are working for your inclusion...I voted for you before, and I'll bet I can get others to do it this next year. Yours Truly, John Hale, Mobile Magic Music (33.Music) "We're at the best parties!"
DAN MCCURDY (Sherman-Denison, TX) ...I joined KLIF in June of '63 and left for Boston in June '65...got back to Texas as soon as I could, KLBK in Lubbock (worked with Dave [Bill] Tucker there) in late '65 and joined the KBOX crew pulling AM drive Jan. 66-Jan. 67, when I joined 7-Eleven's ad agency, The Stanford Agency. Kept that gig 'til '87. Fun, fun times all the way 'round. My very best, podnuh... Dan McCurdy

TRIVIA ANSWER: In January, 2005, Elvis Presley's 70th birthday, Jailhouse Rock re-releases in the UK where it leaps to #1. This is over 47 years after its original release. So Elvis Presley's Jailhouse Rock is the oldest recording ever to top the UK charts.
BOB GRANT [Robert Hanger] (Houston-Jersey Village, TX) Subject: http://heavens-gates.com/_patsy/charliedick/ By the way, I made many trips to Dulles &/or Nat'l Airport during my p/t limo driving days in VA (1990-94) to pick up actress Jessica Lange as a passenger for the 2-hr. trip back to her Scottsville, VA farm. Lange was Patsy in the movie "Sweet Dreams." I drove many famous actors in those days & she was just one of many! When I retired & moved to Phoenix Sept. 1, 1994, I continued my Limo driving for 8 years & even continued for 2 more yrs in San Angelo, 2002-2004. In latter city, I got to pick up singer Mary Wilson at airport for a local concert...nothing unusual there, except for fact that I had been M/C of show when she was member of Supremes at Univ. of VA, Nov. 1965 at dedication of the Univ-Hall (arena); we had quite a chat about the show...she did remember opening act I brought on, The Lovin’ Spoonful. It's a small world indeed. I'd better stop for now. Your windy-friend, BOB
