DAVE MICHAELS (Los Angeles-Culver City, CA) Was talking the other night to a guy who does V/O here in L.A. who went to Elkins back in the 60's (Dallas)...anyway...so did I...maybe someone will get a laugh out of this story. I was going to Elkins and also working at their little FM Radio station KEIR (was KQRO-FM)...and they even paid us a salary for our air-shift---but you had to sign the check and give it back to your Instructor...(like a lab fee or something; so you really worked on the air for free and the experience. I did the 7pm to midnight a few nights a week. I remember we had a system on the remote panel in the studio that you dialed up 3 phone digits and it turned off the Transmitter until the next morning and a 2nd number turned it back on. The high power was the only thing really shut down. The exciter was still alive. I stayed one night to do some production and got quite a few phone calls from people hearing me cuss, clear my throat and start the spot over again until I got it just perfect. I think the station was on the 6th floor of the Fidelity Life Bldg. in downtown Dallas. It was 1966. I also heard a rumor that Rush Limbaugh went to Elkins...any truth in that? Dave Michaels

DON LINCOLN (Austin-Lago Vista, TX) Hello again, Jim – Oh, lordy, a Kimball Knight & a senior one at that – what a coincidence! I was born & raised in Dallas, SOC district, until I joined the Coast Guard only 2 weeks out of high school. Ironically, I also became a Radioman (RM), but not like you and the other DJs of that time. My radios were used for Morse code (also known as ‘CW’), radio-teletype and radio-telephone – some of it, ‘crypto secure’ – to communicate with shore units, ships & aircraft. I served 15 yrs in the enlisted ranks, at various shore & sea duty assignments around the country & overseas, including a 10-mo. tour of duty in Vietnam on a CG cutter during ’68-69 – bad year. While stationed in San Juan, P.R. in ’81, I became a Chief Warrant Officer in Communications & served in the officer ranks for the remaining 15 yrs. I returned to my home state as a CG-sponsored student at U.T. Arlington during ’86-88, where I completed a B. S. degree in Information Systems (called ‘IT’ today). After a few more assignments, I received a final promotion to Lieutenant Commander, one last transfer to New Orleans and retired with 30 yrs service ‘96. Thanks again & best regards – Don
DON TIFFIN (Dallas-The Colony, TX) Jim, Might be...Good picture though...They (Facebook) put quite a few good pictures on Oak Cliff Boomers. You will know several of the people in some of the pics that people have put on there (there are a bunch)...your buddy Jimmy Grubb is in one of the shots taken at a party. Lots of old '60s and '50s pics on there...its kinda fun. Don
PAUL WILLIAMS (Houston, TX) Jim, Regarding K-DOK in Tyler. I was on the air with Bill Young in the late 50’s & early 1960. A lot of good talent got their start there. Among them were: Steve Lundy, Randy Robbins and Rusty Reynolds with Bill Young and Jimmy Rabbit. Dana Adams was a great owner! I think Don Couser came through there also. I had forgotten about my buddy Frank Haley being there. I know I have left a few out…it was a fun place to work when radio was fun to be in. See you at your table at the TRHoF at Tin Hall! Paul Williams, Senior Account Executive, Univision Radio

JOHN HALE (Austin-Cedar Park, TX) Jim, I just bought the newly-remastered Beatles CD's box and it's incredible. It's like discovering them all over again. Stereo separation is superb, and the sound quality is, if possible, better than the original albums. The box sets aren't cheap, but well worth the price. Yours Truly, John Hale, Mobile Magic Music (33.Music) "We're at the best parties!"
BOB GRANT [Robert Hanger] (Houston-Jersey Village, TX) Jim: If that writer to you from NY ever finds out we dearly love our pet-members-of-family down here, she will freak-out! My Sonny Lee is home all day taking messages; tonight I told him if the economy continues to spiral, he may have to get a paper route. He promptly left the room! BOB & Sonny Lee
CHUMBE SALINAS (Benavides, TX) "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." Anatole France. Have that on my profile on Facebook! :) Chumbe Salinas
TRIVIA ANSWER: Smokey Robinson says that his wife Claudette inspires him to write the Temptations' #1 1964 hit My Girl. They file divorce papers in 1986.
CHARLES GEORGE (Dallas, TX) Hi, I am always amazed at how you get so much done. I have problems with my hearing due to respiratory, but nothing I can pin down, have found I like Chinese Food but get a reaction almost every time so it is off my list. I once was in a town out in Arizona the middle of nowhere and here was this big beautiful Chinese Restaurant, the food was excellent. I find I will pay extra at times for good service. Like I was at a movie store and wanted a DVD but could not remember the title so I asked for help. The person goes "You can Google that on the computer". I said,"Thanks, I won't be back here then." The manager rushes over and says, "I think I can help and he brings up listings and takes me to the DVD." I bought the DVD but did not return, since it was not the first time I had been treated the best. I recently saw the place now closed, I can not imagine why?
JANE AUSTEN (December 16, 1775-July 18, 1817) If things are going untowardly one month, they are sure to mend the next.
