Patrick Swayze, who stars in movies Dirty Dancing and Ghost, battles for 2 years with pancreatic cancer dies at 57 in Los Angeles, CA on Monday, September 14, 2009. During his struggle Patrick continues on with his career as we see him this year as a tough FBI agent in the A&E drama series The Beast. Swayze's later film roles include Donnie Darko, King Solomon's Mines plus a cameo appearance in Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights. In 2003 he stars on Broadway in Chicago. In 2006, he appears onstage in a London production of Guys and Dolls. In 1975, Patrick Swayze marries one of his mother's dance students Lisa Niemi. THE RICH AND FAMOUS
Houston radio legend Marty Ambrose and his lovely wife Mary move on up to a high rise penthouse suite in the Commerce Towers in beautiful downtown Houston, TX on Monday, September 28, 2009. Here's a quote from Wikipedia: The 75-story, 1,002-foot tall JPMorgan Chase Tower of Houston, Texas, formerly the Texas Commerce Tower, is the tallest building in Texas, the tallest five-sided building in the world, and is the 45th tallest in the world. Is this the same place where the Jeffersons stay?
TRIVIA QUESTION: Harry Elston co-founder of The Friends Of Distinction has what other previous occupation? The answer appears below.

DAVE LANE (Atlanta, GA) Jim Rose Remembers Radio Issue #705 Hi Jim...a quick progress report on my health. You have MANY more praying for my recovery than against it. After opening my carotid artery which was 97% blocked!...then, on to quad-heart by-pass...it was during this operation they discovered cancer in my Colon...and removed about 18 inches of my Colon...bathroom trips only require half the time now. And during my hospital stay, I fell in love with Sharon, my favorite Physical Therapist...but as always, she's already married! I AM BORED! I can't wait to resume duties at Cashbox Magazine...I even miss (Cashbox Publisher) Bruce Elrod. (
www.memorylaneoldies.com)JOYCE WEBSTER [J.C.] (Mena, AR) Subject: Charles George. Jim, I just read Charles' email re: respiratory problems leading to hearing problems AND his reaction to Chinese food. I have a health issue that causes me pain and I have found that avoiding any form of MSG makes it better. It's difficult to do if one eats out or buys any prepared food. MSG can be under so many names. I try to eat from scratch. One thing I have found is that if I do get MSG now, after avoiding it so much is that I immediately experience respiratory-type problems, and feel really lousy. Would you please pass this info along to Charles? Thanks, JC

DON LINCOLN (Austin-Lago Vista, TX) Hello again, Jim – I now live in Lago Vista, about 40 mi. NW of Austin, near Lake Travis in the hill country. I’m re-employed with the V.A. as a software test engineer. I still have a few relatives in the D/FW area & go up to Dallas 3-4 times during the year for SOC ’66 informal get-togethers, and of course, the formal class reunions. I help locate missing classmates, maintain the military vets’ roster for our class & work with another classmate/vet who maintains our vets’ website. I’m sorry, but have only the one copy of the KPCN program from my dad’s record collection. So, I was able to send only copies of the front & back as attachments to my previous e-mail. Thanks again & best regards – Don
JOHN HALE (Austin-Cedar Park, TX) Jim, It's interesting hearing the reminiscences of other Elkins "Wonder Babies". I started in very early 1967, just a wet-behind-the-ears kid from Mexia, Texas. I thought the Elkins radio station had the cheesiest music selection I could imagine, and I didn't see how I'd ever learn enough to get my first class F.C.C. ticket. Somehow, with the help of Elkins' "sample" tests, I got the license, and later got through the broadcast school. I still remember the old Shakey's Pizza Parlor near Lemmon at Inwood, my favorite place (one of my only places) to eat out. I still don't see how Leonard, their chief engineer, could tell a transmitter tube was going out by the amount of dust on it. Great memories!...and I'd love to read some others' thoughts and memories of their Elkins days. Yours Truly, John Hale, Mobile Magic Music (33.Music) "We're at the best parties!"
DR. JEFF CUNNINGHAM I think that this is just me, but I had rather be hit in the crotch with a pick ax than listen to Christine Ah-Mahn-Pooooooor for an hour. Jeff Cunningham, DC Kyle, TX (www.zoesplaceclinic.com) / (www.myspace.com/drjeffcunningham)
BUD BUSCHARDT (Dallas, TX) Jim, My new office at UNT does not have a computer yet. This is the first chance I've had to view UNT mail on my computer at home. Sorry for the delay in answering you. Thanks for your concern. Look forward to visiting with you again in person come November. Bud
