LONE RANGER DIES
The actor who takes over the TV role of The Lone Ranger in 1952 for 52 episodes after Clayton Moore walks out in a pay dispute, John Hart, dies at 91 on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at his home in Rosarito Beach, Mexico. John also stars in the 1947 Columbia serial Jack Armstrong: The All-American Boy. Most of us Lone Ranger fans remember Clayton Moore as our hero who yells out Hi Yo Silver! Away! On Tuesday, John's wife Beryl remembers, He had dementia in his last years but he was very happy living by the ocean. He used to surf this whole coast in the late '30s and after the war. In a 2001 interview with Tom Weaver for Starlog magazine Hart says, I got a lot of bad advice about playing the part. I tried the bad advice for about one or two shows and then I said, 'The h*** with that; I'll do it my own way.' They wanted me to be like a stiff Army major, and it was all wrong. So I just forgot that and slipped into the part, and everybody loved it. After Clayton Moore returns to The Lone Ranger Hart goes on to star in the 1955 Columbia serial The Adventures of Captain Africa. and Hawkeye and the Last of the Mohicans a 1957 syndicated TV series shot in Canada with Lon Chaney Jr. as Chingachgook. Hart's survivors include his wife of 52 years and daughter, Robyn Proiette.

RUSH RUSHES OUT
After 17 years on Peak Broadcasting KIDO-580 Boise, ID Rush Limbaugh moves on over to Citadel News/Talk KBOI-670. Kevin Godwin SVP/Market Manager/Peak-Boise tells RBR-TVBR. I don’t know the full reason why he was pulled; I just know it was out of our hands. It was kind of handled by big, giant corporations that are doing radio and we’re just a small, private company. KIDO replaces Limbaugh with local programming. Austin Hill is the host of a newly created local afternoon drive time show that begins on September 24, 2009 from 3-6 pm (MT). Austin comes to KIDO from KTAR-620 in Phoenix, AZ.

CHUCK CASHMERE (San Diego, CA) Jim, This fine person worked with me at KMSC in Clear Lake back in 1965. Clarence Chaline was always cordial, forever humble, an all around good guy and fine talent. He was before a lot of your current reader’s time, but I hope you find room to mention his passing in JRRR. Hope all is well and that your grief from losing Tejas is beginning to subside. We never forget those wonderful pets who were always our friends when others were hard to find. Keep up the good work. CC
GORDON BASSHAM (Wichita, KS) Subject: A fine colleague gone. Jeff, Many thanks for letting me know. Clarence ("Bob" to many of us) was a dear man. I used to follow him as the afternoon announcer on KMSC, and will always remember him for his humor. As the "kid" to him, he helped me refine my on-air presence. I enjoyed our friendship. It would be good to get together with you and Jim and the others one day. Let's try to do that before more time slips away. Gordon Bassham
JEFF THOMPSON (Alachua, FL) Subject: A fine colleague gone. Guys: Sad to report that our old KMSC colleague, Clarence Chaline (Better known on the air as Bob Elton) passed away yesterday. He had suffered a number of years of poor health, but that never lessened his great sense of humor." Jim Bell, another of our colleagues, still with KUHF- Radio, University of Houston, informed me today, of the sad news. Clarence had successfully battled a heart conditions, including a bypass for over a decade, but later had mobility problems, but didn't let that get in his way either. He just got one of those motorized chairs and kept on keeping on. About 5 years ago, after decades of total loss of each other's whereabouts...and many unsuccessful searches...Jim Bell finally tracked down Clarence through the Internet, and found where he lived with his beloved wife, Eva Jane, near Jacksonville, Florida. Take care, Jeff Thompson
FRANK HALEY (Albuquerque, NM) Jim, So sorry to hear about your health problems again. My take on that problem, since I was on a "cath" for 5 months, sloshing along with a bag on my leg, I would suggest you find a surgeon who will just take out the prostate, that's what I did, and I'm so glad I did that, the plumbing works just fine thank you very much. That's much better than trying a "ream" job because it won't last very long, I was only on a "cath" after the surgery for a week. and I can't believe they won't give you something for pain. Why not?? I hope you are doing better now. Frank - My life's verse: Isa. 9:6 My "getting through the day" saying: "When the sunshine of God's love meets the showers of our sorrow, the rainbow of promise appears."

DADE MOORE (Houston, TX) Jim, what year was that picture of you. Looks like the old FM carpet at 500 Lovett Blvd in KILT FM Room. (www.dade.cc) / (www.angelfireradio.com) / (www.rockandroll.fm)
BOB CROWLEY (D/FW-Arlington, TX) How's the prostate? I'm guessing you got a good report Monday, and are flowing freely. It's kinda scary to hear about people around my age having strokes and heart attacks and prostate problems...being without health insurance and all. If I come in for chest pains (or just about anything), it becomes a 'pre-existing condition; and that means it won't be covered in the future. That is provided I ever find a full-time job. Some days I figure my next station will be a Texaco. But no worries...I'm going to get fat on government cheese! Obama's gonna take care of me! The Democrats are booking me on a ride on the gravy train (with biscuit wheels!). Oh, wait, I'm not an investment banker. Maybe it's time to put the furniture on e-bay. bc
TRIVIA ANSWER: The Beach Boys' Bruce Johnson writes Barry Manilow's hit song I Write the Songs which has worldwide sales of twenty-five million copies.
JOAN PATE-DAY (Cedar Creek Lake,TX) Subject: Sam Pate. From: Rosalyn Costanzo. I received a notice from the State of Texas today, stating that dad (Sam Pate) has been honored by the State of Texas for his contributions to Dallas and his part in the history of Texas. Just thought you'd want to know. I will scan and email it to you when I get a chance. Rosalyn Costanzo
PHIL DONAHUE (December 21, 1935-p) The radio of my youth...is now a quaint memory replaced by computer hard drives.
