ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

R.I.P. RUSTY WIER
The Austin American-Statesman has an article that shocks us music lovers. The Austin, TX musician who Bonnie Raitt covers his hit song Don’t It Make You Wanna Dance in the movie soundtrack of Urban Cowboy dies at 65 after a two-year battle with cancer. Bonnie's recording of his song earns Rusty a Double Platinum Album that certifies over two million in sales. Country/Southern Rock icon Rusty Wier passes away at his son Coby’s home in Driftwood, TX on Thursday night, October 8, 2009. Jerry Jeff Walker leads a group of musicians as they sing Amazing Grace at Wier's bedside. Rusty has his own chapter in Jan Reid’s book The Improbable Rise of Redneck Rock that chronicles Austin’s progressive country scene of the 1970s. But his contribution to the Austin music scene goes back to the Sizzlin' Sixties. As a student at Southwest Texas State, Austin's hottest band back then, Wig, that forms during the British Invasion recruits Rusty as a drummer. Wier later moves on over to Country/Rock band, Lavender Hill Express as a drummer and singer. But he soon steps out front with his own group. Joe Ables, owner of Saxon Pub where Rusty plays every Thursday for almost 15 years, says A memorial service will probably take place at the Saxon, though details are still being worked out with the family.

C.C. MCCARTNEY (Nashville-Hendersonville, TN) Bless your heart, my prayers are with you my old friend! ~ Keep me informed! CC

SHIRLEY ROSE-REPASS (New Orleans-Mandeville, LA) Well, I am thankful the procedure is over. I knew that it would be painful, but you need to get that Rx filled to prevent any infection. You certainly don't want any complications. Maybe now you can get some relief from your prostate problems when this heals. Two weeks sounds about right. Just follow their instructions closely. Try to get some rest and let your body heal. Love, Shirley

TOM ELLIS (Boston-East Sandwich-Newton, MA) Man, that sounds awfully painful and stressful as well. Pray to God your surgeon knows what he's doing, and that the eventual result will mean a huge positive difference in your quality of life. Tom

CHUCK CASHMERE (San Diego, CA) My friend Jim, My prayers go out to you. You've got to be in misery. I can only image the agony you are in at this time. Please hang in there. I'm trying to learn that song 'If you're going thru h***?' it's a beast to sing because it's out of common meter phrasing and a lot of incongruent rhymes. The point is it's got to apply to your situation. Keep on moving...you're gonna make it to the well side. CC

JOYCE WEBSTER [J.C.] (Mena, AR) Thanks for the update, Jim. Maybe this will do the job. Will pray for a speedy recovery! For some reason, before, I had the idea that you were supposed to go in for something on the 5th...the same day I had to go to my doctor, and that's where my confusion came. Of course, I was having email problems, etc., so I get confused easily, anyway. Seems the private parts of our bodies are just so super sensitive that anything hurts in those areas. Makes me shudder. Some blood in the urine after this procedure is to be expected, though. Main thing is that they get it fixed. Take care, my friend. JC

MONDAY'S SURGERY The urologist performs yet another procedure as they call it. Each one is more painful than the other. This time they use micro-wave to burn away a portion of my prostate. Hurts worse than anything imaginable. The urologist jams a tube inside me. The burning heat is unbelievable. Takes about 45 minutes of this terrible pain. Have to remain with a catheter for 2 more weeks. Maybe this time I win the prostate lottery.

KEN DOWE (Dallas, TX)
UGH! Will say a few good prayers for you, my friend...Ken

RICHARD [DICK] GLANCEY (San Antonio, TX) God Bless and take care!

FR. BOB TOMLINSON (Ft. Worth-Hurst, TX)
They didn’t put you under for this??????? I think I suggested the last time that you find another doctor. I dropped my first one. Will never go back to him. I visit my new one tomorrow to talk more about the Kidney stones. Bob Tomlinson

BOB CROWLEY (DFW-Arlington, TX) ouch! That's some painful medical help you're getting there. Hope all is better by the Hall of Fame inductions. I imagine there are more than a few looking forward to visiting with you. I'm hanging in, hanging out and hanging on for now.

DR. BRUCE NELSON (Corpus Christi, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#724) October 12, 2009 [Monday] OUCH!!! Prayers going up for you Jim...DrB

DAN MCCURDY (Sherman-Denison, TX) Jim...You're in my prayers about your procedure and future health. Would sure like to find out how it goes for you, but it makes more sense for me to read it as you report it in JRRR. My best to you, Jim...God Bless you, buddy...Dan McCurdy

CHUMBE SALINAS (Benavides, TX) I'm sorry to hear you're still in such pain, Jim! Hope they can do something about it quickly! cs

CHARLES GEORGE (Dallas, TX) My prayers are with you. I hope you get well and soon.

ROBERT REYES (San Antonio, TX) ...OH Jim! ...my prayers and good thoughts are always with you! ...all I can say is be strong and patient!! ...when my brother, Eddie, went through his situation, he also released blood from his urine as well ...my late father had a tumor is his bladder and the urologist gave us two options ...he would gradually scrape some of the tumor OR completely remove the bladder ...we opted for the gradual scraping of the tumor but I felt it contributed to his decline in health and he at least had a few years but eventually passed away ON HIS 95th BIRTHDAY two years ago ...crazy that we all wish we could live forever but that's not the plan THE LORD has for us all! ...hang there, sir, and we will keep those good thoughts for your recovery ...will be looking for your next newsletter.
