GREENACRES COMPOSER DIES
The writer of music for TV shows The Addams Family, Green Acres plus other popular shows, Vic Mizzy, passes away at 93 on Saturday, October 17, 2009 in Los Angeles, CA. For the The Addams Family theme, Vic plays the harpsichord and sings the vocal parts (he overdubs his own voice 3 times) and coaches the actors during the main-title sequence (this includes the on-camera finger-snapping by the actors). Stars, Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor, perform his Green Acres opening theme song. Mizzy also has many top-20 hits in the late 1930s, '40s and '50s when he is active as a New York-based songwriter. In 1945, Doris Day sings his most popular tune, My Dreams Are Getting Better All the Time. His other hit songs include 3 by the Andrews Sisters. Vic Mizzy's TV career begins in 1959 with music for Shirley Temple's Storybook and the themes for Moment of Fear, Klondike and Kentucky Jones. He has a run of 1960s and '70s sitcom themes that include The Don Rickles Show and others. Vic underscores TV's Richard Boone Show and Quincy along with several TV movies. He also does some of my favorite Don Knotts films: The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, The Shakiest Gun in the West, The Reluctant Astronaut and How to Frame a Fig. Mizzy is born in Brooklyn, NY and attends New York University. As a child he plays accordion and piano. Many of his hit tunes he writes while he serves in the Navy during WWII. Vic Mizzy's survivors include a daughter, brother and two grandchildren. Another daughter dies in 1995. His services are at 11 am on Tuesday, October 27th at Eden Memorial Park in Mission Hills, CA.

EX-RADIO PERSONALITY HAS A PARTY
Diego Ramos exits Top-40 WIOQ FM (Q102) Philadelphia, PA after nearly 20 years due to corporate cut-backs. Diego lands on his feet as he opens his own tavern - Diego's Bar in Philly. On Saturday night, October 24, 2009 from 7-11pm Ramos throws a private Q102 reunion party at his pub. Diego brags, It's for the original staff that put Q102 on the air back in 1989 and the people who worked at the station's original location at 2 Bala Plaza. Ramos reunites with his former longtime Q102 morning show co-host Chio who now is across the street on Beasley WRDW FM (Wired 96.5). Chio wants to give me a chance to say goodbye to the listeners. Since Q102 did not let me do that after working there for 19 years...you never know what else might come out of my mouth. To find out more, click www.diegosbar.com.

CHUCK CASHMERE (San Diego, CA) Hi Jim, you do a great job of keeping small memories of times gone by alive. I'm sorry to read about Al Martino. He was a good guy and a fine singer. I'll share this memory of an adventure with Al. Late sixties or early seventies when we shared a 707 flight from LAX to Vegas. A storm had passed thru LA and another storm was making its way down thru Northern CA. The pilot had told us there would be some rough weather...there was only about 20 people on the mid day flight. Al had been called as a last minute substitute for someone who was headlined at the Sands hotel. Before leaving the ground we share airplane jokes. Al was cordial but not in a party mood ...he had to go right to rehearsal and perform that evening. The flight was a bear. No sooner were we off the ground than the bumps started...the bottom began to fall out of the sky. I mean scary time. Normally this kind of thing doesn't bother me but I did become more than a little concerned. Vegas is sometimes a little rough to fly into but this time was the worse I've experienced to this day. On leaving the plane almost everyone on board told Al we would attend his show. It was a nice way to end a tumultuous day. We crossed each others' path a couple of years later at Capitol records...he remembered the plane ride. It was always good to see his career move along. He was one of the good guys. May he rest in peace. CC

DR. BRUCE NELSON (Corpus Christi, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#724) October 12, 2009 [Monday] Hey Jim, Looking forward to saying hello at the Texas Radio Hall of Fame Induction, see ya in November. With Regards to the passing of Shelby Singleton I am deeply saddened. He was and will remain a one of a kind. I received a package from Shelby one morning ten years or so ago which contained a Sun Records wrist watch with a note that he was sending one to all the Sun Artists (my 1986 recording of "Haunted House" is believed to be the last vinyl 45 rpm release on Sun) the watch along with his note are amongst treasured possessions.
