ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

CRB DIRECTOR EXITS The longtime executive director of Country Radio Broadcasters (CRB), Ed Salamon, leaves a post he holds since 2002. Ed is a radio veteran who holds many important positions over the years. Salamon is the co-founder of United Stations Radio Networks and for about 10 years serves as president of programming for Westwood One. Ed is a member of the Country Radio Hall of Fame. Becky Brenner, CRB President and PD of KMPS/Seattle, WA makes the statement: For the past 12 months, Country Radio Broadcasters has conducted an extensive review of its operations in terms of the organization's administrative functions and the execution of its flagship event, Country Radio Seminar. As a result of this review process, the CRB board of directors has initiated several internal changes, which are designed to keep the organization growing in this very challenging economic climate. A number of adjustments have already been made. As we continue our ongoing effort to ensure the vitality of our organization and achieve our mission of growth through sharing, we do anticipate additional changes.

EMAILS YES WE HAVE EMAIL

TOM ELLIS (Boston-East Sandwich-Newton, MA) Hi, Jim, So glad you responded to my email because I was racking my brain trying to come up with Horace Logan's name. I remember him as the MC...wonderfully deep and resonate voice that absolutely filled the auditorium to the point of making your body feel the vibrations. I also remember that he had a show on KWKH, which is the radio station that I always listened to in those days. KWKH was a well programmed station with a mix of country, pop and an afternoon drive show called "Groovie's Boogie", which got me hooked on real down and dirty gut bucket rhythm and blues. Oh man, I'd love to have another shot at listening to a station like that now. You musta been a stud on your various venues with all your knowledge and brain power blasting out there. Wish I'd had the chance to catch your act. Tom

J.D. ADAMS [B.J. Adams] (Coatesville, PA) Wondering if you might know where Chuck White is these days. I never understood if he was "The Checker" or "The Chucker"? Put me on the air for a week of overnights...with the transmitter turned off. He hired me but I'm not sure he ever turned the transmitter back on. A couple of years ago I heard he was in the Temple, Killeen area. I know he wasn't well. Would love to check in with him. Thanks...JD Adams

JEFF THOMPSON (Winston-Salem, NC) Jeff Thompson, former Houston Broadcaster (KXYZ, KMSC, KVVV-TV) -NOW Winston-Salem, NC. Thanks, Jim, for publishing the remembrances at the passing of our loyal friend and KMSC Radio broadcast colleague, Clarence Chaline. I suppose it was sent to you by Jim Bell, (KUHF), Gordon Bassham or Chuck Cashmere, who had also worked with us at KMSC through the '60's. Sadly, Jim Bell also informed me that the same week as Clarence's passing, another of our former colleagues had died, Bill Paradoski. He did the evening news back in 1968 at the old KVVV-TV station, Ch.16, where Roberta Hammond (De Francesco) and I along with Jim Bell co-hosted the 6 hr. daily show, "Stock Market Observer." In 1969 we moved it to WOR-TV, Ch. 9 in New York City, where I worked for 25 years in the Broadcasting, (WOR-TV, WINS, NBC Network News, etc.) On a lighter note, it was a pleasant surprise to see the note from another old colleague, Tom Ellis in Boston...who had been my college classmate in the University of Texas Radio and TV department. We managed to a brief visit together once after he moved down to anchor at WABC-TV. From his note, he now is back in "Bean Town." All the best to Tom. Thanks again for printing our salutes to Mr. Chaline. – JT (

CHET MAXWELL
(San Antonio, TX) Hi Jim, Bill Morris (dies October 20, 2009) was the overnight deejay at KBOX when you were there (1971-72). He later went into sales and remained at the stations until they were sold some 18 years later. Liz Barber now owns an ad agency, but she also spent many years in the sales department at the stations. She will probably enjoy JRRR. I hope that the microwave burn did the trick. I think that you will find that it did...and a new Akita will really brighten things up for you. Best regards, Chet
