HAPPY VETERANS' DAY!

ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

PULITZER PRIZE WINNER DIES A journalist who earns his fame as one of Washington, D.C.'s best-connected and best-known reporters dies on Tuesday, October 22, 2009. Jack Nelson's investigative coverage of the civil rights movement and Watergate helps to solidify the Los Angeles Times' reputation. Jack dies of pancreatic cancer at 80. For 20 years from 1975 to 1995 Jack Nelson is a dominant player in our nation’s capital as the bureau chief of the Los Angeles Times. In the early days, bureau chiefs often have dozens of reporters under their direct command. Newsweek reporter, Howard Fineman, remembers It was somebody who knew everybody and everything that moved. And who, with the backing of a big bureau, could really turn on a big story when necessary; somebody who was not only a good reporter and could get around town, but had some reporting horsepower - they could get a dozen people dialing phones in the era before Google.

F-BOMB DROPS ON SUNDAY
It happens again on TV. This time at the end of the Villanova-Richmond football game on Saturday, November 7, 2009. According to reports, at the end of the close game, someone yells, Come on, let’s end this f-ing game already. These words go out over the air for God and everyone to hear. Comcast SportsNet quickly apologizes for the curse word that goes out over their airwaves: During Comcast SportsNet’s coverage of the Richmond-Villanova college football game on Saturday, our audio signal inadvertently picked up an off-color remark. We apologize to our viewers and the teams and will take appropriate disciplinary action to ensure this does not reoccur.

SUNDAY NIGHT GAME OF THE YEAR
NBC TV's Sunday night telecast of the Dallas Cowboys-Philadelphia Eagles NFL game on November 8, 2009 earns a 14 rating 21 share for the 2nd highest in the national ratings. The #1 rated Sunday Night Football game of the year is the NY Giants versus the Dallas Cowboys game with a 17 rating/27 share. Each national rating point stands for a million households.

FRANK HALEY (Albuquerque, NM) Jim, My news (KKIM-1000 & KKIM FM 94.7) is all pre-recorded and mine run at 5am (5 min), 6:59am (1 min), 8am (4 min), 10am (5 min), 11:30am, (3 min) 12:30pm (3 min) and 8 pm (5 min). That's the only times my news runs. They run a live local talk show at 4:30pm, but I don't do anything in it... Blessings, Frank

JOHN WESLEY RYLES (Nashville, TN) Hey Jim, thanks for the warning about the mic. Thanks for the kind words. I'll get back to you when I have time with some stories. Have a good night, pal. P.S. Please let me know if my mic is still on...JW

JONATHAN FRICKE (Nashville, TN) Hope everything goes well with the doctor's appointment. I know it has to be rough to go to so many appointments. Like you said, thank goodness many of the nurses are cute... wouldn't it be nice to take them home with you! You have gone through a lot. I can relate in a way... my wife sees doctors on a weekly basis. Stay well, my friend. Jonathan

TOM ELLIS (Boston-East Sandwich-Newton, MA) Subject: INTERNET WARNING: If you get an email titled "Nude photo of Nancy Pelosi" don't open it! It contains a nude photo of Nancy Pelosi.

ATTILA HONEY (NYC, NY) Dear Jim, How can I thank you enough for your help and support for wggrn.com I think it’s so important for us to get our message out there – this country is probably at the most polarizing point in history. We are doing our bit – through humor. We have a great show and everyone who discovers us out there becomes a fan. Hey! Did you ever hear of a radio guy in the 50’s and 60’s named James D. Hill. He heard my show and wanted to buy space after me but it’s locked it. Enough about me – How’s your baby? A friend of mine once said that when a new baby comes home – that’s when all h*** breaks loose! (metaphorically speaking) Now I’m determined to get you on our network…many opportunities outside of just the shows. You’re the best and I’ll never stop nagging you. Thanks again and much much love to you and Lacy

JOYCE WEBSTER [J.C.] (Mena, AR) How is Lacy doing? Is she trying to escape? Has she settled in? How are you feeling now? Joyce

BOB GRANT [Robert Hanger] (Houston-Jersey Village, TX)
Jim: ...other members (Silhouettes), tenor Richard Lewis D. 4/26/2005 & Earl Beal, baritone, D 3/22/2001 @ 76. Bootsie replaced former lead Horton in 1961. When group started singing blues, they changed from Gospel Tornados to "Thunderbirds" & in 1957 Philadelphia DJ Kae Williams of WDAS became their Mgr. (He died 12/87) In "Get A Job" a long, long line in song became inspiration for name of the group "Sha Na Na" today. DJ Kae operated the "Junior" label, but sold tape to Al Silver of Ember Records in NY, after song began to really sell, winding up as #1 on national charts. Bootsie didn't sing on that hit, but after Horton left, he took over as lead-singer & was a member for many years. In fall of 1980, the group performed on a big rock-reunion show in NYC. Thus, he was only survivor of the group! (Last of original four was Beal.) ...as their national chart days both began & ended in 1958. It was Beal who suggested the new name "Silhouettes" & Lewis suggested idea for the song he brought from army-days when he joined the group. It's reported that Howard Biggs came up with all those catchy lyric lines in the hit song. BOB
