ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

NOT THE END OF AN ERA YET Vin Scully, National Radio Hall of Fame Los Angeles Dodgers announcer, tells the Associated Press on November 10, 2009 that he calls yet another season of games for the Dodgers in 2010. Scully turns 82 in November 2009. After the 2010 season Vin says he decides if it’s time for him to hang up his headphones for the last time. Vin has an incredible six-decade run with one team that rivals all of his peers in sports broadcasting. Vin Scully tells the crowd at the Hollywood Radio & Television Society luncheon that he's trying to figure out if I can walk away. I’ll do it next year and then we’ll just have to wait and see.

DOES HE OR DOES HE NOT?
Awhile back we report in JRRR that Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler decides to quit the band and go solo. But looks like he has a change of heart because Steven joins lead guitarist Joe Perry on stage on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 and says I just want New York to know I am not leaving Aerosmith. JRRR wonders if Tyler suffers from a bit of jet lag. If you remember, Perry finds out about Steven's alleged departure online. Joe remarks, What about fans? The people that also love him and put him where he is. After 40 years? And I gotta read it on line? Read online ST left band to do "brand Tyler"? That's all I know but like I've said hasn't called me in months. A bit cold, forget us 4 guys. Aerosmith has more twists and turns than a TV soap opera. Stay tuned to this bat channel.

MEL PENNINGTON
is sports director on KVUE TV in Austin, TX in the mid 1960s during my time as PD/MD/DJ on KHFI FM from 1966-67. Great guy with a marvelous sense of humor. Mel is a wonderful fella who also takes on the role of radio manager of KHFI FM and KHFI-970 after another great guy, Cal Druxman, leaves. We have lots of fun when radio is real. Wonder if Jay Pennington is any relation to Mel?

JAY PENNINGTON (San Antonio-Boerne, TX) No, I wish I could say I was. He sounded like he was a great guy. Maybe back a number of generations we might be related. I heard a story once that the US Penningtons originated from 3 brothers who were the jester/comedians to the royal family - they went too far one day in their jokes and were banished to the colonies. CHUCK JOSEPH
(Houston, TX) Dear Jim, Have a great birthday...and many more! Chuck
