ALAMO CITY TV ANCHOR RETIRES According to the San Antonio Business Journal, CBS affiliate KENS TV CH5 names Jeff Vaughn to replace Chris Marrou who retires on January 4, 2010 from his evening news anchor chair. HIP HOPS OUT OF AUSTIN
After two and a half years KFMK FM (Jammin' 105.9) in Austin, TX drops Rhythmic AC and flips to Hip-Hop as 105.9 The Beat to go up against crosstown Emmis KDHT FM (Hot 93.3). Pamela McKay, KFMK FM Market Manager reflects, As the makeup of Austin's population grows in diversity, we know this mass appeal format will super-serve our growing community as well as the needs of the advertisers. In the Arbitron Summer Report KDHT FM ranks number nine 12+ with a 3.9 share. Next thing that happens is KDHT FM fires its entire Hot 93.3 programming and air flight crew, tosses its Hip-Hop music and skims along without DJs. Its new yet unknown format arrives on Friday, November 20, 2009.

CHARITY LOOKS UP Salem Radio Network hosts Bill Bennett, Mike Gallagher, Janet Parshall, Dennis Prager, Michael Medved and Hugh Hewitt host a week-long Thanksgiving campaign to raise funds for Feed The Children charity with its base in the Oklahoma City. Due to the economy, Tom Tradup, SRN VP/News and Talk Programming, fears this year’s drive might not measure up to 2008's tally. Tom brags, Instead we are doing double, even triple, the donations generated last year. As of this morning we’ve raised over $65,000 in just two days. That’s enough for Feed The Children to distribute food that will feed 12,900 families-of-four for an entire week. Critics will always take shots at Talk radio, but once again this is proof of the one-on-one bond that SRN Talk hosts have with their audience and the inherent generosity of the American people.

KMCV FM Wish we can go back to KMCV FM days when Chuck Joseph, John Jaksha and I are DJs there. Radio-TV evangelist Jimmy Swaggart owns Traditional Gospel KMCV FM with studios off I-45 way up north of Houston, TX. Even with big Sam, his green suits, ties, socks and spy master daughter we still manage a few laughs. One afternoon I play an up tempo Gospel Rocker by Elvis Presley on the air. Sam's daughter, who is our receptionist and resident spy, calls daddy Sam and hands me the phone line to Glory Land. Big bad Sam chews me out because I play that Rock'n'Roll record. One night after I get off the air, the night DJ says that he has Mike Murdoch on the phone who demands that the DJ play a cut from one of his albums. He tells the DJ that Jimmy Swaggart is a very good friend of his and that he might ask Rev. Jimmy to fire him if he doesn't play one of his tunes. Murdoch's albums are amongst the ones that I hide from the control room rack and place his masterpiece works of art with the others in a safe place. Tell the DJ to ignore the TV preacher. We sure do have lots of fun before Clinton's Telcom law of 1996 brings in bankers as owners and programmers of America's radio stations.

JOE FORD (Houston-Spring, TX) Chuck Joseph! What a great guy...never seemed to have a bad day, great sense of humor...always had great railroad stories! I'd love to see him again. DAN MCCURDY (Sherman-Denison, TX) Rats! Here I am a day or so late wishing you a Happy B'Day...well, belated, but no less sincere, Jimbo. My son, a NYC percussionist, Michael, shares November 16 as a day-of-his-birth with you, I simply can't believe that my middle child is 35 years old...anyhow, PeaceLoveDoveBeadsBellsCrashPads&HariKrishna to ya, Jim; both you and the sharing service you offer to all of us more-seasoned radio/TV heads is wonderfully reflective, greatly appreciated and obviously a labor of love and elbow grease for you. Again, Happy B'Day and for the benefit of all your fans, many, many more, my friend.
