ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

DOBBS FOR SENATOR OR PRESIDENT? TV talk show host Lou Dobbs leaves CNN after almost 30 years because network honchos become jittery with his personal political agenda promotion on his TV show. Lou still has his syndicated radio show plus CNN hands him millions of dollars to walk away from his TV anchor spot. Probably the most irritating aspect of his jargon to CNN bosses is his referral to President Obama's birth place. Where is Barack's place of origin? Dobbs suggests that Obama actually is born in Kenya, not Hawaii. If he really is a U.S. citizen why does he spend millions of dollars on legal fees to keep it hidden? Lou also speaks of our nation's leaky border with Mexico where millions of illegal aliens still pour across our southern boundary. The National Hispanic Media Coalition takes credit for Lou Dobbs' CNN departure. The NHMC brags that it plans next to turn to Dobbs’ daily United Stations Radio Networks syndicated talk show. CNN announces that anchor and chief national correspondent, John King debuts in early 2010 on a new weeknight political show to fill Lou's former 7:00-8:00 pm ET time slot. Word has it that Dobbs might consider a senatorial run as an independent candidate in his home state of New Jersey. The latest banter is Lou Dobbs for President of the United States of America. Stay tuned to this bat channel.

CBS EXTENDS MASON'S CONTRACT
CBS Corporation restructures its broadcasting operations with a new management team to direct the new local broadcasting portion. Anton Guitano, CFO and Senior EVP of Operations for CBS Radio, is new COO of CBS Local Media for its new local broadcasting business segment. Anton reports to Leslie Moonves, President/CEO of CBS Corporation; Dan Mason, CBS Radio President/CEO, and Peter Dunn, new President of CBS Television Stations. Since 2007, Dan Mason heads CBS Radio. He signs a contract extension to remain as head of the division. Leslie Moonves, CBS Corporation President/CEO, boasts Dan is, quite simply, the best executive in the radio business. He has unparalleled gifts as a programmer, and knows how to turn that grasp of our on-air product into improved ratings and financial performance. We couldn’t be more pleased that Dan will continue to provide his leadership skills for years to come, joining with Anton and Peter to help make this new local media group a growth engine for CBS.

JIM 'Catfish' PREWITT (Sacramento, CA) In my wildest dreams I would've never thought radio would have gotten this bad. If you have a job KEEP IT no matter how bad it gets. Jim Prewitt; (www.JimPrewitt.com)

JOHN SUMMERS (Los Angeles, CA)
Catfish...there is usually no choice in the matter when the end comes. No matter what you've done, how nice you are, how talented you are or how much 'extra' stuff you do, it matters not. John

'Big' JAY SORENSEN (NYC, NY)
Unfortunately, you are somewhat correct John. BUT...I’ve noticed that some OTHER folks DO notice...sometimes you meet them on the way UP...or even on the way down if that occurs. So while it seems like it’s all for naught, sometimes it isn’t. MY work ethic is renowned in this region. I was hoping that happened when I lived in Rowlett and worked in Big D. But now that I’m back in the NY/Philly/Jersey area, my work (on and OFF the air) speaks for itself. Some people won’t like you no matter what you do…and others LOVE you. So don’t take any of this personally these days. The oafs who run MOST of the big companies are looking over THEIR shoulders too…no matter how good or how far they go the extra-mile for their company. There ARE some decent people out there who DO notice. Believe me. I "go the extra mile" for ME too; because I want to! I figure, the BIG guy upstairs knows. I am the biggest team player there IS. But once I’m gone…I’m GONE. Then I just hitch my wagon up the next operator smart enough to GET it. And that, my friends is what those on the radio-beach must do. Having pals in high places (ya know like some guy named Famous and guys like Tom Taylor and Joel Denver and Jerry DelColliano and radio’s best friend Art Vuolo) at influential publications and other industry related firms doesn’t hurt either. BUT…it comes down to this: the RIGHT people find out eventually what YOU are worth to a company. THEY are the ones who WIN. Jim and his former morning-show teammate in Militia-gan will rise again. Mark my words. Good luck to YOU TOO John. We’ll meet again I’m sure. So folks…have the best Thanksgiving you can have...and...BE BIG! Big Jay Sorensen, WCBS-FM NYC

LARRY SHANNON (Tarkio, MO) Great thoughts, Jay. I'll jump in with a word or two to reinforce what you said. I've never left one gig and gone on to the next one - fired, resigned, run off, etc - and the next gig turned out to be much better than the one I'd left. A few years ago, I wrote a piece when Dallas and Denver's Paxton Mills died (
www.radiodailynews.com/beatlesgeneration.htm). One line in it remains true about today's state of the biz ... "We fired and hired each other at a half dozen different radio stations - one day we were enemies, the next day, best friends and boss jocks." It's an endless cycle. "One day we're a boss - the next day we're asking to be hired by someone we fired a week before." Larry Shannon

RUSS DIBELLO [Famous Amos] (NYC, NY) I really should keep to myself and be gracious here, but I gotta be mee-e-e-e... Some years back, when I had my third and final humiliation with Clear Channel, they left me no choice in a certain situation, but to sue them. Y'all should a heard the stuck-pig squeals from my fellow Radio Industry compadres: "Oh my GOD! You can't sue Clear Channel! You'll never eat lunch in this industry again! Eight years later, I'm working, including duties on The Greatest Station in the World (CBS-FM) and they're starting charities for families who have been the victims of the Evil Empire. Oh, and that lawsuit, which everyone said I "couldn't win"? Let's just say that CC assumed that because I lived in New York State, any rent-a-lawyer, type storefront law firm from that State, in general. could represent against an ex-NYC CC employee. You tend to view things that way, I suppose, when your corporate HQ is in San Antonio. So much for CC's mythical evil, unstoppable lawyers. Epilogue: they didn't win, and I lived to eat lunch another day. Happy Thanksgiving all and may you all see greener pastures in 2010. FA! R! WCBS-FM NYC

CHARLES GEORGE (Dallas, TX)
Subject: Mondegreens and Traditions. Hi, Someone said they knew of an Irish song about a train, it goes "Paddy Me Boy is that the Chattanooga Choo-Choo"? Also and old Irish song for plumbers, "Oh, Danny Boy I hire those pipes a calling." A Lutheran Theologian Marty Martin in Christianity Today in an article once said one of the worst Christian sins is not to be able to laugh. Since we are always to be able to explain the Joy with in us to whoever asks us. I have started going to a place I like for Mexican Food at the West End, R. J. Cuisine. The food is a little on the high side, but is very good and a nice treat like when I go downtown to cast my ballot. Especially when I am not sure I even care to vote. 73, Charles George, KC5RAI
