ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

STERN RETURNS TO TERRESTRIAL RADIO? Howard Stern has just eleven months left on his Sirius XM Sputnik Radio contract. The question of the day is how much less pay can Sirius get away with to still keep Stern in its lunar orbit? If SXM Radio cuts his salary Howard threatens to leave their spy-in-the-sky asteroid. SXM Radio awards him $100 million-a-year to say and do as he pleases without Uncle Charlie Charlie's (FCC) whip lash. But will the Telstar radio company ante up that much space cash again to keep him on their hot airwaves? Some say that SXM will step up to the plate and pay Stern another $100 million to keep him aboard their rocket ship. But, John Hogan, Clear Channel Radio President/CEO, tells Bloomberg Business Week that he might ask Howard to sign with CCR after his SXM piece of paper runs its course: We would be the most logical company for him to optimize his exposure and financial return. Does Howard Stern continue his beam above the planet earth? This just in! Inside Radio's Monday, January 25, 2010 issue reports that Sirius XM personality Howard Stern tells listeners to his satellite radio show I’m not contemplating it. I don’t want to be censored. JRRR firmly believes that Howard remains at Sirius XM at even more than his current $500M salary.

LOVELY RITA COSTS $500K
During his final week as host of NBC TV's The Tonight Show Conan O'Brien seeks revenge for his demotion. On his last night as host he has the house band, The Roots, play the Beatles tune Lovely Rita as actor Tom Hanks walks on stage. This is to honor Tom's wife, Rita Wilson. But it costs NBC TV a half million bucks. Questlove, drummer for The Roots, sighs Any time you use the Beatles on TV that will cost you dearly. On Wednesday night, Conan causes NBC TV to further splurge when he rolls out in a $1.5 million Bugatti Veyron wearing mouse ears as The Rolling Stones' Satisfaction plays in the background. Another pricey song. O'Brien scoops up lots cash for himself and his staff, too, with a severance package that totals about $45 million. On Monday night March 1, 2010 Jay Leno returns to his original post as host of The Tonight Show.

MICHAEL O'SHEA (Bellingham, WA) Jim, Radio in the 60’s and 70’s…even into the 80’s was scrappy, seat-of-the-pants, "let’s do some promos, play some hits and kick some ass" radio…owned by local entrepreneurs and one-off media creators. While I cringe in pain seeing creative morning talent "dropping like flies" with corporate consolidators trying to avoid bankruptcy and PPM’s flavor-on-the-month…I’m am so thankful that I was able to ride that bucking bronco for 40-plus years and participate in the golden era of radio creativity. And associate with some amazing co-conspirators along the way. Sincerely, Michael O’Shea, VP/GM Saga Communications, Bellingham, WA

KIP ALLEN (Palm Springs, CA) Subject: Bruce Hughes. Dear Mr. Rose, I have just heard that my old friend and colleague Bruce Hughes is dead. Do you have any information or details? Kip Allen

SAM LEE (Beverly Hills, CA) Hi, Jim: Give Rick (Herold) my contact information and I'll give him an update on Bruce's Death. Bruce spoke highly of Rick. Sam Lee, KLIF News, PS: I also have reconnected with Ken Dowe. Thanks (

ATTILA HONEY
Hey Sweet Peeps, I liked your insightful comment on NBC regarding Jay Leno. I like that network about as much as I like MSNBC. I have good news on this end. My show on WGGRN.com "The Attila the Honey Comedy Hour" is now airing on "ProudtobeaMom.Com" radio station beginning Monday. I'm also leaving for India early tomorrow morning. This was the gift of all gifts - frequent flyer miles from a friend who couldn't use. Ya Hoo! I can hardly wait. Love Lacy and I'll write when I return in a couple of weeks. Maybe I'll bring you back an Ox! LOL! xxxxxxxxooooooooattila

CHAD EVERSON (Minneapolis-St Cloud-Princeton, MN) Air America dead? I don't know, they have plenty of hot air and they still have so much history to rewrite and a failed agenda to spin. Stupidity never seems to go out of style so I agree with you, The idiots will always be with us! Hey thanks to you and Lacy for stopping by WGGRN.com chat, sorry I was not there when you stopped by the chat! I will try to catch you next time! Chad Everson; President, Theodore Media LLC; (

CHERI FALCHETTI (Pittsburgh-Kittanning, PA)
Hi Jim, I was able to find your email from the American Chronicle by doing a name search for Arch (Yancey). An article written in 2006. (
www.americanchronicle.com/articles/view/8029) I miss those days. You'd think I was ancient, but those 'childhood memories' come out once in awhile and take me back to a time I miss but treasure even if they are bits and pieces. Have a wonderful weekend & thank you so much for making me smile. Cheri

PAUL WILLIAMS (Houston, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#769) January 25, 2010 [Monday] Hi Jim, In regard to the note from Cheri Falcetti in Pittsburg, Stubby’s Lounge was the favorite "hangout" for ALL the KNUZ DJs in the 60’s including me. It was only 2 blocks from the radio station. We also took a lot of entertainers that were in town for a show to Stubby’s. It was a great place to shoot pool, have a cold brew and relax before and after our DJ shifts. Among the DJs and newsmen that hung out almost every day or night were: Arch, Berlin, Dave Ward, Chuck "Baby" Adams, Jerry Miller, Fred Jones, Dick Jones, Jerry Rice, Brad Messer, Joe Ford (maybe?) and of course, me. Others I remember were B.J. Thomas, Roy Head and a lot of local artists who were trying to make it to the big time. I remember country music on the juke box and shooting pool in the back room. Arch has a trucking company in Alvin, Texas and is still married and in love with his great wife Jan. I hope this helps Cheri. I do remember her mother, Lena. Paul "Wild Child" Williams, Senior Account Executive, Univision Radio

RAY WHITWORTH (D/FW-Arlington, TX) Hey Jim: Well I was not an avid listener of Air America or any type of Talks show for that matter. I still feel both sides (especially in an election year) should be heard evenly regardless of one's political beliefs. That's how democracy works. The recent US Supreme court decision was stupid. An individual votes not Corporations or Unions or those lousy Political action committees. Now the candidates in any campaign are going to get lost in getting their own messages out due to the quagmire of the big buck groups. We are the only government in the world where the representatives are continuously campaigning and not doing the job they originally were elected to do. All my Best. Ray Whitworth

TRIVIA ANSWER: The original title to Franki Valli's 1975 #1 hit My Eyes Adored You is Blue Eyes In Georgia but he changes the name when he records it.

HENRY LAROCCA (Beaumont, TX) Hello Jim...I have been calling you...never can get you on the line. I'm sure you're still with us, 'cause your news keeps hitting my mail...hope all is going good...call me...we need to do lunch soon. I'm thinking of coming over for some Bar-B-Q at the Fat stock show in a few weeks. I'll keep calling 'til I catch you. Henry LaRocca; Beaumont,Texas
