WBAP GOES FM AGAIN The words of Andre Crouch, Soon and very soon, are very apropos today as Citadel puts the WBAP call letters back on the FM dial. At noon Friday, March 12, 2010 KMPZ FM flips its Soft Oldies lid with an hour of Country programming under the Texas Twister banner that it previously uses. Ahead of its coming soon format change, throughout the weekend KMPZ FM stunts as Reagan Radio 96.7 with a focus on speeches from America's former President Ronald Reagan. Then on Monday, March 15th Soft Oldies KPMZ FM (Platinum 96.7) Dallas, TX begins to simulcast the powerful 50,000-watt clear channel NewsTalk WBAP-820. This is probably because Arbitron’s January 2010 PPM ranks KMPZ FM with a low a 2.0 share. KPMZ FM emerges as WBAP FM with its new NewsTalk rebroadcast of sister station WBAP-820. Citadel says that it hopes to attract listeners who never listen to AM radio. Due to the influx of XM Sirius satellite radio and its wide array of music, terrestrial FM radio begins to ditch its music programming for News and Sport Talk. This is a reminder of when FM radio begins to dominate AM radio in the mid 1970s. Remember? To better compete, AM radio dismisses its music for News and Sports Talk. As Bob Dylan states, The times they are a changin'. JRRR predicts that this is a sign of more drastic changes on the FM dial as music radio becomes like dust in the wind.

BRUCE ELROD [President of Cashbox Magazine] (Ridgeway, SC) Subject: Cash Box paper edition arrives! Due to my two hospital stays in Jan. and February we moved the date up to April. It will become a monthly subscriber issue beginning with Elvis on the cover. The commemorative was pieced together trying to combine the old with the new. You will always have one page in each issue and if you want to you can add or put what you think into it. The one you have will always be the collector edition and the new beginning. By the way the New Cashbox will have all the flashes and little resemblance to the old Cashbox. The only industry news in the new Cashbox will be from you. It will become a pure entertainment magazine about the current charts, the artist and trivia. Have you noticed the charts page? We have added 8 new charts. We are also looking for more reporting stations for Hip Hop, Rock Top 40 and Country. Let's get some of your folks to join Cashbox Reporting Stations. All they need to do is email us and confirm and send their playlist each Thursday to
cashboxmagazine@gmail.com Also check the radio button. All the countdown shows are free to radio. Just contact our programmer Lee Vyborny. Check especially the Country Countdown. R.B. Renegade is d-jaying the countdown for all radio stations. Tell me what you think...CHERI FALCHETTI (Pittsburgh-Kittanning, PA) Hi Jim, My Dad Lonnie Sanders, was a very tall Texan as was the 'crew' that would frequent Stubby's Lounge on Main street. (I think it was Main) Bob Duvall owned it. (Bob Duvall's girlfriend's dog hit the Chronicle as the poodle that could talk). Pierre (the dog) could say "mama & yum yum". *bizarre memory* (ha ha) Cheri
RUSS KNIGHT (Bridgeport, CT) Subject: Russ "The Weird Beard" Knight. New to the Internet and saw your site. Liked it a lot. Good to read some fun memories. Hope all is well. -- Still Groovy, Russ Knight, The Weird Beard

GARY DELAUNE (San Antonio, TX) Subject: Russ Knight...Hi Jim; I wanted you to know that I received an e-mail from Russ Knight last night. Your readers might like to hit on my stories sometime...MySA.com...go to blogs...then hit on my picture...and do it when a second shot comes up. I had almost a thousand hits on the story I wrote about Elvis at Christmas time. I hope you are doing well and I hope the (fire) smoke smell is gone. See ya...Gary D.

JOAN PATE-DAY (Cedar Creek Lake, TX) Subject: news. On this snowy day, cold outside but cozy inside, I enjoyed your email from Mike Simpson. It makes me feel proud my brother (Sam Pate) was a swell guy like Mike reminds me Sam has not been forgotten. Knowing Sam, I am sure he remembered you Mike. And having ridden with him in the mobile, I bet you held on real tight to the dash board when he made those u-turns to get that story. Sam's grandson Mack, about 10 years I guess, made the front page cover of a Dallas magazine. On the last anniversary of Kennedy's death, his mom took him downtown to the Memorial. Every time the guide would start to tell the events of that day, Mack would correct him and say "here's how it really happened." A reporter noticing Mack asked where he got the information. "My grandpa told me"
TRIVIA ANSWER: Elvis Presley plus thirty other artists turn down Bye Bye Love but The Everly Brothers' version in summer 1957 rises to #2 and remains on Billboard for 22 weeks.
BLAKE FARENTHOLD (Corpus Christi, TX) Subject: http://news.jimroseremembersradio.com/ (JRRR) Popped up as a Google alert. I have my name and my opponents listed, so I get an email whenever Google indexes a page with my name or his on it. I bookmarked your site and will check back if life ever slows down.
KKTX-1360 Corpus Christ, TX Clear Channel Conservative Talk host Blake Farenthold trades in his radio post to seek the Republican nomination for Democrat Representative Solomon Ortiz's seat in the 27th Congressional District of Congress.
MARK TWAIN (1835-1910) No man's life, liberty, or property is safe while the legislature is in session.
