Later, Fess strikes gold as owner of the Fess Parker Winery and the Doubletree Resort along Santa Barbara's beachfront. SCULLY FALLS
Legendary L.A. Dodgers Hall of Fame baseball play-by-play announcer Vin Scully spends overnight in the West Hills Hospital and Medical Center on Thursday night, March 18, 2010 as a precaution after he falls out of bed and hits his head at his Los Angeles-area home. The 82 year old Vin Scully announces Los Angeles Dodgers baseball games for 61 seasons. Despite Vin's bumps and grinds he plans to be back in front of the mic on Sunday, March 21st to do play-by-play of the Dodgers game in Arizona. Scully issues a statement that says I am spending the night (in the hospital) and plan on doing the game Sunday. L.A. Dodgers fans hear Vin's voice for so many years that only we old-timers remember Scully's time with the Dodgers in Brooklyn, NY. Vin Scully who is a native of New York City begins his Major League Baseball career with the good old Brooklyn Dodgers that lasts from 1950-57. The team's original name is the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers. As Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully sings Take Me Out to the Ballgame it is as much a part of baseball as the ball itself. Salute!

KLIF FLASHES OBAMA The latest health care fiasco that many refer to as Obamacare causes tensions to rise all across America. Tea party protesters are in every city and town in our homeland. News-Talk radio KLIF-570 in Dallas, TX takes it one step further when it urges listeners to flash Obama both night and day with their car's headlights. Steve Nicholl KLIF PD says the campaign puts a focus on making a visible statement to lawmakers. Steve states that it continues until the bill is defeated. We have activated our emergency response team on the streets of Dallas-Ft. Worth to send a message to Washington that this controversial health care bill will cause a national emergency. Lawmakers are to make their final decision about this castigation of America on Sunday, March 21, 2010.

DERRILL HOLLY (Arlington, VA) Hi Jim, thought for sure you would pick up on one thing that the young people writing and editing celebrity obituaries missed about the late Peter Graves’ career. Many of us who read JRRR still recall Graves as the father figure on that Saturday morning serial "Fury." We watched in every week from 1955-60 and got more than a little disappointed when parents explained that you could not keep horses in the city. – "Kids of the Baby Boom" as the Bellamy Bros use to sing. Have a great day! Derrill E. Holly; Senior Writer-Editor, Electric Co-op Today; National Rural Electric Cooperative Association

BOB GRANT [Robert Hanger] (Houston-Jersey Village, TX)
Jim: As you know, we lost singer/guitarist Alex Chilton @ 59 on Wednesday, 3/17/2010. He was founder & lead singer in Memphis of group, The Box Tops, who had the hit "The Letter" (#1 August 1967) & "Cry Like A Baby," (#2 in 1968). The former record may hold title of the last #1 hit less than 2 minutes in length! I know you will have much info on death today of Texan Fess Elisha Parker Jr., but I wanted to add a few notes paper may miss tomorrow: Parker was raised in San Angelo, TX from age 3 months; att. Stephen F. Austin Elem. School there & grad at San Angelo H.S. 1943; (on Bobcats Football teams of 1941 & 1942); then played football at Hardin-Simmons Univ., Abilene, & later earned his bachelor degree at University of Texas. His late father, F.E. Parker, was Tom Green County Tax Assessor & served 2 terms as a county commissioner in San Angelo. (San Angelo H.S. is now Central High School) I once stayed at his Doubletree resort in Santa Barbara, CA hoping to see him, but he was out of town, according to wife Marcella. Fess died on the 84th birthday of his wife of 50 years! BOB & Sonny Lee

NOREEN DICKSON (Houston-Cypress, TX) Subject: The Exterminators on A&E. Thanks for the reminder it has been so long since (we) talked! I did see it last night as I was flipping through the channels. They were running a marathon of all the old ones which means they should be starting the new ones anytime. They have advertised Billy coming back on TV and if they gave me a date and time it is marked and alarm set. Perhaps I will check out the web site for A&E to see if they have the time listed! I have been reading when you mention Lacy and watching how the 2 of you have bonded since you got her. I am so glad that you finally found a compatible buddy to keep you company and share your life with. Although we have not personally met I am glad that we have become friends! Funny how life leads us. Please keep in touch. Noreen Give Lacy a big hug and kiss for me!!

TRIVIA ANSWER: Barry Manilow records his vocal and piano parts for Mandy in just one take. The tune reaches #1 and sells over a half million copies.

DAN MCCURDY (Sherman-Denison, TX) Subject: Kimball class of 1964? ...well, Jim...I checked Dan's picture, so he's not my doppelgänger (also NOT ME) but it is interesting that his HS grad year would have been my college grad year (had I not responded to the siren song of KLIF). So I'm one of those weird birds who, if I had stayed to graduate, would have had my successful career horribly torpedoed. I'm also one of the few guys I know who was hired as an executive by a Fortune 500 company (and stayed 20 years) without a college diploma. Further, (ask me the time, I'll tell you how to make a watch!), I've now got a PhD from McLendon University, with advertising and public relations as a double major. I also have three oak leaf clusters and a Purple Heart from my Boston fiasco. Um, don't ask where they put my oak leaf clusters <g>. - Dan McCurdy (1960 graduate of Hamlin, TX High School). KLIF, KBOX-Dallas; WMEX-Boston; inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame 2004; retired Fortune 500 advertising/PR exec; freelance writer, voice talent

MAO TSE-TUNG (1893-1976) Khrushchev should get a one-ton medal.
