I lost my a/c Sunday night but thankfully my old buddy who has known me for way too many years since we are both "older than dirt" showed up quickly yesterday afternoon and made the repairs as it is very hot and humid, dangerously so! Loved this issue especially the info on Chicago radio and the Top Forty KLIF format! Would love to check that out! When you asked your trivia question, my mind raced back to the song by Don Mc!!! Still have that old worn out album, I think. He could sure write some songs, couldn't he?!? JC WHERE DO YOU READ JRRR? Tell us how far away from Houston, TX that you read JRRR. MAYS EXITS CLEAR CHANNEL Beginning in January 2011 someone other than a member of the Mays family will be in charge of America's largest radio conglomeration, Clear Channel Radio. This is a first for CCR since it was created by the Mays family in San Antonio, TX 39 years ago. Mark Mays, Clear Channel CEO, makes the announcement late Tuesday, June 22, 2010 that he will resign his post as head of CCR at the end of 2010. But he remains as CCR's chairman. Eric Rhoads, Publisher of Radio Ink, mentions in his Web column on Wednesday, June 23, 2010: Everything is big in Texas, and the Mays family, good Texans, built the world's biggest radio company. But, like all dynasties, this had to have a closing episode. So as Mark, Randall, and Lowry ride off into the sunset, let's tip our hats and wish them so long and farewell.

TRIVIA QUESTION: What famous member of Rock group The Eagles is also a ham radio operator? The answer appears below.
TOM ELLIS (Boston-East Sandwich-Newton, MA) Subject: Hi, Jim and Lacy, Finally got a little time to devote to the computer. I really enjoy reading your description of your early road to fame and "fortune". You had some real ding bats for bosses. Funny how a little authority influences some people. Had to laugh at the boss who said that night time music is for lovers in our audience who are out in their cars on dates. Yeah, right! That's what lovers go out in their cars late at night to do...listen to music. That's not what I went out on a date and parked in my car to do. Your preacher story is priceless. And I bet the Minden Soul Stirrers laid down some mean gospel. Anyway, thanks for the stories. They are delightful. Tom
JIM TRAVIS (Hot Springs, AR) I saw the name "Dizzy Lizzie" on the nominees for the TRHOF. I would really like to see her elected. When I was a kid listening to Houston radio I always loved what she did. One thing that sticks with me was that her show was sponsored by "Orange Tommy's"; a very strong adult beverage. Her show sounded like perhaps she was sampling the product as the show went on. That lady could talk the trash. I think she was on KCOH, along with "Daddy Deep throat" and "Zing Zang". That was great stuff. I don't see much email anymore on your site from George Lester. What's up with him? Did he ever get into the TRHOF? Is the Calif. snake still giving you problems? He has stopped his emails to me totally. Travis
BOBBY COPELAND (Knoxville-Oak Ridge, TN) Subject: Cowboy Roots in Studio City. The Gene Autry estate, built in 1949 in Studio City, Calif., by the cowboy singer-actor, has come on the market at $6.9 million. Owned by his widow, Jacqueline Autry, the forested property’s 3.5-plus acres center on a two-story Spanish-style house of about 8,000 square feet. The main house has pegged hardwood floors, a family room with a wet bar, a library/media room with vintage walnut paneling, a breakfast room, five bedrooms and seven bathrooms. Balconies overlook the acreage, which has winding paths and flower gardens. There is a guesthouse, a swimming pool and an outdoor entertainment area with a fireplace.
GENE SCULATTI (Los Angeles, CA) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#833) June 23, 2010 [Wednesday] Thanks, Jim, for the plug for my info search on Russ Knight (The Weird Beard). Should anyone have a lead, they can contact me at genesculatti@sbcglobal.net. Checked the WICC site yesterday, but it appears Knight hasn’t been there in a while. Best, Gene

DAVID FAULKNER (Dallas, TX) Subject: Letter from Jim & Jo Travis (Issue 832) Well then, there is that... Very Good! I feel better now! You & Lacy Take Care, David P.S. Tell me a bit about Lacy. My pup is a Pug named Lois. She's a rescue dog so I don't know her exact age. But it's somewhere between 13 & more likely 15. She's slowing down, sleeping more, but doing well for her age.
LACY is my third Akita rescue doggie. She arrives here in her new home on November 1, 2009 from an Akita rescue kennel in Greenville, TX about 60 miles east of Dallas. She is about 5 years old at the time. My precious Tejas escapes, runs away and must find some poison somewhere because she dies. Her death totally devastates me because we are so very close. Lacy is a big girl at 100 lbs or more but she is the sweetest doggie around. She takes to her new home almost instantly. Lacy learns all of the hand signals and voice commands that Tejas knows. She's a mighty happy camper.
