EMAILS YES WE HAVE EMAIL JUDY SALVADOR (Las Vegas, NV) Subject: Joe Salvador...WFAA Radio, KLIF Radio, Dallas Cowboys, KVEG Radio, Las Vegas, Caesars Palace Sports Talk Show. I just found your site on the internet. My husband, Joe Salvador worked at WFAA Radio in the 60/70's. He was also with KLIF in the early 70's. At WFAA he was News Director and did Sports play-by-play with Verne Lundquest and the Dallas Cowboys. Joe did the color and Verne did the play by play. He also did Public Affairs and interviewed many famous people. In his years in radio he also worked at WHB in Kansas City, KOMA in Oklahoma City and KMUS in Muskogee, Oklahoma. We moved to Las Vegas 22 years ago and he worked at KVEG and hosted and produced a Sports Talk Show, Sportsbeat. It ran for a couple of years from inside Caesars Palace Race and Sports Book and the Forum Shops at Caesars. Joe is enjoying retirement in Las Vegas with his wife of 47 years and three children. Your site is very interesting and I can't wait for Joe to see it. Keep up the good work. Jim Rose and Lacy
KISS FOUNDER PASSES The discoverer of Hard Rock band KISS who builds them into Superstars, Bill Aucoin, dies in Florida at 66 on Monday, June 28, 2010 from prostate cancer. In 1973, Aucoin first notices KISS as they perform at showcase in New York's Diplomat Hotel. He brings them upstairs to meet label legend Neil Bogart who signs them as his first act on Casablanca Records. Reportedly, Aucoin finances their first tour with his own American Express card. In the early 1980s, Bill bids adieu to KISS to go on to manage Billy Idol, Billy Squier and other artists. Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley pay homage to Bill Aucoin on the KISS website: Bill loved life and lived it to the fullest. Words can never convey his impact on us or those close to him. We will grieve and celebrate all he was and did. We have lost a part of us.

GOVERNOR RECEIVES TV TEST PATTERN Beginning on Monday, July 26, 2010 News Corporation-owned Twentieth Television tests a talk show with host former Arkansas governor and Republican presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee, for six weeks in seven markets. The hour-long Huckabee Show goes on tape in NYC in front of a live studio audience. He continues to host his weekend TV program, Huckabee, on Fox News Channel. Frank Cicha, SVP of programming for Fox TV Stations issues a statement: We're always looking for topical programs helmed by distinctive personalities that can pair well with news.
TRIVIA QUESTION: Why do Jay and The Americans record the tune Cara Mia? The answer appears below.
JOE SALVADOR is a newscaster on WFAA-820/570 in Dallas, TX during my time as a DJ there from 1967-68.
JAY WEAVER (D/FW-Hurst, TX) Subject: Dave Ambrose. Hi, Jim! Here's hoping you and Lacy are doing great and having a Happy Fourth of July! At last report, Dave Ambrose is living in Euless, TX and is still in the construction business. In the late seventies and into the eighties, Dave was a neighbor of mine, along with his wife Cynthia. Cynthia's father owned the construction business and when Dave left KLIF, he joined his father-in-law in the construction business. In the eighties, Dave and Cynthia divorced and Dave moved on in the construction business on his own. In recent years, Troy, in his early thirties who is Dave and Cynthia's oldest child, suddenly died. Occasionally, I see Cynthia and her current husband. Jay Weaver
JOYCE WEBSTER [J.C.] (Mena, AR) Subject: Ernie Phillips' inquiry. Jim, Joe Holstead and I had a quick pizza together when I was at KNUS, 1979 or 1980, I think, but it might have been later. l believe Joe was at WBAP at the time. When I asked about Dave Ambrose he told me that Dave was in the construction business with his father-in-law. That is the last time I heard anything about Dave that I can recall. Guess Dave made a complete career change. Hello to Ernie! JC
TOM ELLIS (Boston-East Sandwich-Newton, MA) Subject: Re: Veteran Removes The American Flag. Makes me want to know how to get in touch with this hero to let him know he makes me want to stand at attention and salute him. God bless America on this 4th of July. On this date in 1952, I was serving on active duty with the U.S. Navy stationed at Norfolk, Virginia. I was honored to be selected as a member of the Navy Honor Guard to march in the 4th of July Parade on the Parade Ground at Yorktown, Virginia...the very same location where British General Cornwallis ordered his troops to be surrendered to General George Washington...a decision that ended the fighting in the American Revolutionary War. The whole time I was there was a mystical experience for me thinking about that day so long ago, and seeing and hearing in my mind the sights and sounds that must have been happening during the battle and the ultimate surrender. I'm fortunate to be gifted with the spiritual sense to be able to do that. Anyway, that's my 4th of July story. Hope you and Lacy have a wonderful day. Tom

LESLIE WAYNE HODGES (Marshall TX) Subject: SCRUBS. Hi Jim, I have the complete sixth season of SCRUBS. Watching SCRUBS reminds me of listening to the fun Lee Douglas had on WFAA 570 on air from about 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Winter Spring of 1969 when I lived in Pecos Texas. Also as I was getting ready for 7th grade in Goldthwaite Texas at 8:05 A.M in the Fall of 1968 I was listening to Bobby Brock on WFAA 820. Now watching the humor of SCRUBS reminds me of the fun I heard from Bobby Brock and Lee Douglas had on WFAA. Those Were The Days. I sure would like to hear that kind of local live radio now. Let's ask Dan McCurdy how we can resume those days on radio today. I sure want to be apart of this. Thanks. Leslie Wayne Hodges www.kzqx.com 100.3 FM Marshall Longview & 97.9 FM Tyler.

DICK GLANCEY (San Antonio, TX) Happy Fourth of July to you and yours. Returned this week from the Naval Academy to see my grand daughter sworn in as a Plebe as she works hard the next four years to become a Naval Officer. God bless our troops everywhere! Dick Glancey
TRIVIA ANSWER: Jay And The Americans record Cara Mia because it contains the only four chords they know. In 1965, Cara Mia rises to #4 on Billboard.
CHARLES GEORGE (Dallas, TX) Subject: Our Town. Hi, WRR-FM is not safe there always seems to be someone who thinks the City should sell the station. One council person said there was not enough Ethnic programming on there once. Funny, it can make money, so why sell a money maker. My parents told me I should be ashamed of myself when I played Elmore James, Shake Your Money Maker. There also is the problem of creative, since talent has to be developed, that takes time and money. I am as Bobby Goldsborro sings in a song a never was so I know I can be seen as a person who doesn't understand how things work. Like I know Show Business has two words Show and Business. Like I always think of certain songs that women I knew loved but I hated, I Love A Rainy Night. My version I hate A Rainy Night unless it is in Georgia. Like my favorite antenna for TV, Rabbit Ears. But I have a bunch of cards and letters from stations that I enjoyed listening to but can't anymore: WABC 770, WNBC 660 both now are covered up by locals. I also know that stations play certain songs by Canned Heat but they had more songs than Going Up The Country and On The Road Again. Like how many times can one hear Freebird, makes me know someday I'll Fly Away. These are the good ole days. My radios turn on and don't drift, have readout, can easily pick up signals when they are there to hear. The Trouble With Harry was funny at the time it still is fun to watch if only knowing that a lead is now gone.
