EMAILS YES WE HAVE EMAIL CHUCK CASHMERE (San Diego, CA) Subject: Dizzie Lizzie. You got it all right. Most of the listening audience didn't know she was white. Larry Williams was from Houston & He probably was thinking of Dizzy (Dizzy Miss Lizzy-1958). I met her once...my ex deceased wife worked with her for a brief period. That was my connection. It could have she took that name from the record because this was in 1960...don't know much more...but I know Mickey (Newberry) was thinking of her...it's all in the song. I think she was hosting an R&B show or something...maybe even promoting it because that how some of the show got together in those days. Jim Rose and Lacy
ANOTHER YANKEE SUCCUMBS As we mention in JRRR this week legendary NY Yankee announcer Bob Sheppard dies at 99. On Tuesday, July 13. 2010 Yankee owner/GM George Steinbrenner dies from a heart attack at 80 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, FL. Yankee players and fans refer to George as The Boss. For more than 30 years, he lives up to his nomenclature the Boss which is a nickname he earns and enjoys because he rules with an iron fist. Many say that he buys championships with millions of dollars. But Steinbrenner rebuilds the New York Yankees into a sports empire. During his reign the Yankees win six World Series titles. One of my favorite baseball manager/coaches is Billy Martin. George feuds and clashes with Billy Martin but he hires and fires him twice.

TEXAS TV ANCHOR SUES STATION Former KPRC-TV NBC CH2 news anchor Wendy Corona files a lawsuit against her ex-employer after they dismiss her in January 2009. Wendy asks for $3.2 million in damages plus court costs from Post-Newsweek KPRC with allegations of breach of contract, defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, misrepresentation and fraud. But a Harris County district judge rules in favor of KPRC-TV CH2 plus station manager Larry Blackerby; former Channel 2 news directors Nancy Shafran, who hires Corona and Skip Valet. On Monday, Corona's attorney, Jan Woodward Fox, declines to comment on the judge's ruling. Attorney Demetrios Anaipakos, who represents Shafran, has a pending counterclaim against Corona.

MIKE MCHENRY (San Saba, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#841) July 12, 2010 [Monday] Jim, Ken Grant's funeral is scheduled for Monday, July 19 at Forest Lawn West on Westheimer in Houston at 10:30 A.M. The family will receive family and friends beginning at 9:30 A.M. Mike McHenry
JOE FORD (Houston-Spring, TX) Subject: Ken Grant. Unbelievable! Ken Grant passes! Ken hired me when I was just a kid. What patience this man had as the official overseer of me, Berlin, Yancey, Williams, and rest of the young wild bunch at KNUZ. I think Ken cringed everyday wondering what would happen next but he took it all in stride. Such a great guy. I guess I though he would live forever. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Doris and his family. Joe Ford
JOHN HALE (Austin-Cedar Park, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#842) July 14, 2010 [Wednesday] Hey Jim, It’s been a lousy couple of weeks for the New York Yankees organization. You mentioned Bob Sheppard, their great stadium announcer passing away. Now comes word that "The Boss", George Steinbrenner, has died. He wasn’t universally-liked, but he bought the Yankees when they’d gone through a long dry spell, and turned them into a massively successful billion dollar business. He was the prototype of the hard-nosed Yankee businessman, and he returned the Yankees into the iconic team they’ve become. I’m not a Yankees fan, but you hate to see two legends like that pass on so close together. Yours Truly, John Hale; Mobile Magic Music (33.Music) "We're at the best parties!"
BOB GRANT [Robert Hanger] (Houston-Jersey Village, TX) Subject: Former Member Edwin Hawkins Singers Dies. Jim: Walter Hawkins. a Gospel Bishop, & former member of his brother's Edwin Hawkins Singers, has died @ 61 in CA. They hit #4 in May 1969 with "Oh Happy Day." He founded The Love Center Choir, and was a Grammy winner for his solo albums. Bob & Sonny Lee

MIKE HARTMAN (Ft. Worth-Joshua, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#836) June 30, 2010 [Wednesday] Hey, Jim...I hope all is well with you and Lacy. I'm a little late on this response...but what the heck. It has to do with favorite summer songs. I grew up on the south side of Ft. Worth, TX. A few miles from there, real close to Carswell Air Force base, was and still is, a great swimming spot..."Burger's Lake". Back in the 60's they had a juke box which could be heard by those who were swimming. Every time I hear "The Summer Song" by Chad and Jeremy my mind rushes back there..."Trees swaying in the summer breeze showing off their silver leaves...". Another "Chad and Jeremy" just hit me..."Yesterday's Gone". Let us not forget "Sandy" by Ronny and the Daytonas, as well. Now, that's summertime to me. Sorry I got carried away. "Well, she got her daddy's car and she cruised through the hamburger stand, Now...". I'm outta' here. Surf's up!!
LARRY SCOTT (Dallas-Terrell, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#842) July 14, 2010 [Wednesday] Jim, I may have missed some of the summer songs. Did anyone mention Cindy Walker's classic "Sugar Moon" or Mac Wiseman or Pat Boone's "Love Letters In the Sand?" Larry
