THE BLUES MOVES The House of Blues Studio D in Memphis, TN where artists like Isaac Hayes and Three 6 Mafia record, relocates to Nashville. When MGM and Memphis label owner Gene Lucchesi builds it in the 1960s the Studio D building's name is Sounds of Memphis. Originally, it is the home base for Dallas, TX Rock'n'Roll group Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs whose first big hit is Wooly Bully (#2 for 2 weeks in 1965). In 1986, Gary Belz buys the building and teams up with Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh to expand the structure. This brings in artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Matchbox 20 and Travis Tritt. Later, Belz places the studio under the House of Blues entertainment umbrella. Despite high-profile pop and hip-hop acts like Justin Timberlake and Erykah Badu, Studio D's business slows down. So Gary picks up and moves the entire structure to his Nashville House of Blues complex where he has more recording space. The studio has to be partially disassembled before it loads onto a truck on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 for the 200-mile pilgrimage. A banner on its side reads, From Memphis with Love.

TRIVIA QUESTION: In Phil Spector's 1958 song To Know Him Is to Love Him by The Teddy Bears what do their friends say will happen? The answer appears below.
JEFF THOMPSON (Winston-Salem, NC) Yes, Jim, I certainly DO remember where I was on August 16th, 1977. (Part III) The day of the funeral, I walked over to her (Elvis' mom) grave, and found her tombstone marked August 14th. After doing reports on NBC about the funeral, during the flight back to New York by way of Chicago, Elvis's Road Manager, Joe Esposito, told me some other details of the closed funeral. Most notable, he said that a huge tree branch crashed to the ground just as Elvis' casket cleared the door leaving the church. Joe recalled that Elvis had promised give a sign someday...after his death. Scared the heck out of everybody there...and eerily they reported that the big branch was still green...not dead. Other strange things surrounded those few days. But not enough room reports them here. But, just thought you'd like to know, Jim, for the record how it came down that day at NBC. - Jeff Thompson

DAVID FAULKNER (Dallas, TX) Subject: Radio Stories Part Three. Greetings Jim & Lacy, In Summer of 86 I'm hired part time at 870 KFJZ (formerly KFJZ-1270). Legendary calls, an honor to work there. It is at that time called "Unforgettable 870 KFJZ" & is doing basically a "Music of Your Life" format. KAAM (1310) has become the official "Music of Your Life" station for DFW, but we we're playing a lot of the same music & some nice tunes that they don't have from our own personal collections. One Saturday morning I play Aspen Gold by The Kingston Trio as the first song of the day. It just seems to fit the morning. It's from my home collection. ABC News at the top of the hour followed by local headlines & weather. 870 is a daytimer. On at sunrise/Off at sunset to clear the frequency for WWL - New Orleans, which is starting to override our 250 watts by sunset anyway. Gary Jack Vance is in charge & I want to use a bit of this space (In case he sees these newsletters or someone who knows him does.) to thank him for the honor of working at KFJZ & to apologize for not being more mature & responsible. (Had I been, I would've had the honor of working there longer than I did.) Take Care, David Faulkner
LARRY SCOTT (Dallas-Terrell, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#862) August 30, 2010 [Monday] God has been good to me and cross paths with many of those that made country music history. I will always remember your phone calls. Larry

TRIVIA ANSWER: In Phil Spector's song To Know Him Is To Love Him by The Teddy Bears their friends say there will come a day when they'll walk along side of him. The popular tune remains at #1 for three weeks around Thanksgiving 1958. Others who record the song are Peter & Gordon (#24-1965), Bobby Vinton (#34-1969), Jody Miller (#18-1972) and The Trio: Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris (#1-1987).
CHARLES GEORGE (Dallas, TX) Subject: Mike Wade KXOL-1360? Yes, I keep trying to get him to drop a line or two for you to use in newsletter. I see I have lost another DXing opportunity. KSKY now has an FM on 92.9, it wouldn't be so bad if they did not simulcast but had separate programming. My favorite by Patsy Cline has to be Walking After Midnight. I love the bass part; I tried to learn it when I attempted to play the electric bass-guitar. I took lessons for a while but my teacher had me realize I was not going to practice enough to make it as a bass guitarist. Another venue I have tried because others made it look easy. I also always liked the bass on the song Turn Back The Hands Of Time. I was wondering whether I would like the same songs if transported back in time. Oh well I start thinking of a song Simon Says when I hear the name Simon Cowell. Also I let Fred Watkins know of your site, I hope he writes you. I know you have a great newsletter so keep telling others. Charles
