ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS
TV ANCHOR RETIRES Longtime WPRI TV Eyewitness News CH12 Providence, RI news anchor Karen Adams plans to retire after 35 years in broadcasting with nearly 22 annuls at WPRI TV. The 55 year-old Adams arrives on WPRI TV in 1989. As she places a For Sale sign in front of her home in Lincoln she sighs the timing is right. Karen relates that Broadcasting can be a cold business. She says that she sees what happens when people overstay their welcomes: Contracts are not renewed or employees are exiled to lesser jobs and dead-end shifts. Jay Howell, CH12 GM, notes that is not about to happen to Adams. He says that WPRI TV does everything in its power to persuade her to remain but her mind is made up: There’s no question we would have loved for Karen to stay. She’s done an amazing job for us. Adams recently marries retired businessman Ed Mauro Jr. She says: There are still trips to be taken, golf courses to play. And the station is doing well in the ratings, particularly at 11 pm. Why not walk away when things are going well?IF YOU THINK THIS ISSUE OF JRRR IS WORTH READING...Please forward this entire issue to five of your friends and associates! THEY'RE TAKING PAUL SIMON'S KODACHROME AWAY In his 1973 tune, Kodachrome, songsmith Paul Simon repeats the line, Mama don't take my Kodachrome away. The song gets is name from Kodak's beloved 35mm Kodachrome film. Kodak introduces Kodachrome color film processing 75 years ago. But these days everything is digital. Kodachrome color film processing has its final run in Kansas on Thursday, December 30, 2010 where its last operating machine will be sold for scrap. A George Eastman House museum curator declares: It's a pop culture icon. On a personal basis, I love my Polaroid Time Zero camera but the factory ceases the manufacture of its film in 2009. The Rolling Stones 1974 album It's Only Rock 'n' Roll has a cut called Time waits for no one. For some of us, we feel our end time draws near. At its peak, there are 25 labs that process Kodachrome film. On Friday, December 31, 2010 there will be no more Kodachrome color film.
FORMER POLITICO GOES RADIO Former US Representative for 10 years and 2008 U.S. Presidential candidate, Tom Tancredo (R-CO), who is a Tea Party favorite recently makes a gubernatorial bid in Colorado but fails. Democrat John Hickenlooper wins, Tancredo is 2nd and Republican Dan Maes is a distant 3rd. The Tom Tancredo Show launches on Monday, January 3, 2010 at 10:00 pm on Citadel News/Talk KVOR-740 Colorado Springs, CO. Mike Knar, Citadel Market Manager says: Tom made a lot of noise in the gubernatorial race in Colorado. He has a lot to say about matters of the state and his show fits like a glove with our award winning line up on KVOR.
