KSCS FM GOES WITHOUT DJS Recently, listeners to long-time morning show The Dorsey Gang on Country KSCS FM (96.3) in Ft. Worth, TX are shocked by their absence. If that isn't enough to knock your cowboy hat in the dirt, the KSCS FM Web site now features a New Country logo, plus there is no more airstaff link. KSCS listeners wonder what's going on in Cow Town? Dave Kelly, KSCS FM PD, says not to fear because, We're relaunching the radio station. Basically, the station is focusing on new country and the biggest acts in country music, and the intent is to be playing the most country music in North Texas. For the time being, Terry Dorsey, Mark [Hawkeye] Louis and APD/MD Chris Huff will remain. On Tuesday, January 4, 2011 former Dorsey Gang member Rebecca announces that she exits The Dorsey Gang but remains with KSCS FM in other activities. Kelly says that KSCS FM is without DJs until a new air staff is announced on Monday, January 10th. Dave does not mention a word about air personalities Allan Peck and Kim Stewart. Kelly says that the change is not actually a format flip. It is a relaunch: We're focusing on the new, bigger acts of the format. KSCS has been country in this town for a very long time. We're just reinventing the brand.
WMA LOSES MILLIONS THROUGH PONZI Jim Wiatt former William Morris Agency CEO sues Winston & Strawn law firm in U.S. District Court in New Jersey on Monday, December 20, 2010 because of what he alleges is a Ken Starr ponzi scheme. The suit claims that former W&S partner Jonathan Bristol offers legal advice to Jim Wiatt that causes him and his wife Elizabeth to lose millions of dollars due to a money laundering scheme through a trust account which Bristol administers. Federal prosecutors indict Bristol on claims that he conspires with disgraced money manager Ken Starr to launder more than $20 million from Starr's celebrity and Hollywood insider clients. The SEC sues Bristol on similar charges about his control over Starr-related trust accounts. The Wiatts' lawyer David Stone of Stone & Magnanini issues a statement: It was bad enough that Ken Starr defrauded his clients, but what makes this even more egregious is that, Bristol – a prominent partner of a prominent firm – abused his client relationships with the Wiatts. This type of conduct warrants not only compensatory but punitive damages to deter such conduct in the future.

WAYNE WATKINS [WHGO FM (105.9)] (Biloxi, MS) Subject: Plaxo post. There comes a time in life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh, forget the bad, and focus on the good. So, love the people who treat you right. Forget about the ones who don't. Life is too short to be anything but happy. (http://RocknOldies.com)
DREAMA MANKINS [Drema] (Hickory, NC) Hi, Jim...When the station (WMIL) changed formats from country to rock, two announcers (one of whom was Bruce) and two of our newsmen ended up in Houston and San Antonio. I love Texas and considered going there myself. I always had a feeling I had lived in Texas in a previous life – probably as a dance hall girl. (I did live in El Paso for a while, but that didn’t count.) I left WMIL when I was transferred to Malrite’s home office in Cleveland as administrative assistant to Mr. Maltz. Sincerely, Drema

BILL CHERRY (Dallas, TX) Subject: Important News About Rascal McCaskill. Jim, KREL (Baytown, Texas) was 1360. He was at KREL from 1954 thru 1956. A total of 3 years. It now has other call letters (KWWJ) and is a gospel music station. The locally famous Skipper Lee Frasier, way into his 80s, still broadcasts there via a remote from the funeral home he owns. Rascal, who is white, began at all-black KCOH with a "black" accent, then KREL, then KXYZ, then KTRH then KILT plus several others. Later he was the area representative for Dot Records. He went to Victoria to head up the founding and management of a TV station. In later years he owned a putt-putt golf course and substitute taught in the public schools for about 30 years. He was also well-known for his civic work. Was once a Kiwanis Club governor. Those in my email list who are radio people are already subscribers to JRRR. Those who I sent the email to (about 75) who aren't radio people were listeners of Rascal's. I'll forward your edition to them with the further suggestion that those who are radio buffs would enjoy JRRR and can subscribe. (By the way, I'm one who enjoys it) Thanks for writing about Rascal. Bill Cherry

GENTLEMAN JIM CARTER (San Antonio, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#910) December 20, 2010 [Monday] Jimbo: I was doing mornings at KTEM (1400) in 1970. Bill Gallion (News Director) was also PD. I could NOT get along with that dude! So I gave Cheney two weeks notice & I bailed to KDOK (1330) Tyler. Big Joe Lombardy did afternoons when I was there and J. Hugh Sprott did 7-sign off. Jackie (Sprott) was my roommate and a guy named Bubblehead Ed did mid days. Quite a motley crew. :) GJC
