RADIO DJ BILL BAILEY DIES Former radio DJ Bill Bailey who is the Duke of Louisville on his Louisville, KY morning show in the 1960s and 1970s dies at 81 in Norton Brownboro Hospital on Saturday, January 14, 2012. His birth name is William Boahn. Reed Yadom, WHAS-TV meteorologist remembers: Bailey's popular show aired on both WAKY-AM and WKLO-AM and combined music and water cooler talk. Before he retires from radio in 1994, Bailey is a DJ on WVLK-590 in Lexington, KY. He is born in 1930 in New Bern, NC. According to family, Bill is an accomplished artist who loved to draw and paint. Since his stroke in 2003, he resides at Friendship Manor in Pewee Valley. Faith Chapman, his daughter, says: As a resident...he did morning announcements over the public address system and had frequent visits from fans. Leslie Butterfield, Friendship Manor administrator, recalls that Bailey routinely hung out near the nurses’ station so he could talk to everyone who walked by. Everybody did love him. He was a very social person. I’ll miss not seeing him out in the hallway, and that’s the way it’ll be for a lot of people here. His service is at 6 pm Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Pearson-Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road. Bill Bailey's survivors include a brother, son, three daughters, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

KING PARTNERS WITH MEXICAN BILLIONAIRE The Wrap learns that Larry King will launch a 'huge' online initiative backed by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim. Two individuals close to King confirm that the venture is underway, though details remain sketchy. The new venture will be online, which is a very interesting departure for the former CNN host. Larry King spends most of his career in on-air broadcasting. In December 2010 after 25 years, King departs the CNN cable news network. Bert Fields, King’s lawyer, says: I can confirm that there have been discussions in which I participated. Details are vague because the deal is not yet complete plus they do not want to violate clients’ confidence. Forbes ranks telecom magnate Carlos Slim, whose media holdings include a sizeable stake in the New York Times, with a net worth of $74 billion as the richest man in the world.
SHEEN LOSES $2 MILLION On Sunday night, January 8, 2012 Charlie Sheen surrounded by reporters takes questions at a Fox party for the Television Critics Association winter press tour. As he prepares his return to television after his firing from Two and a Half Men and media meltdown Charlie tells what it's like to lose millions of dollars in the past year: I went from making $2 million a week to making $1,700 a week on Roman's film, and I was never happier. Good time Charlie says: It got unwieldy the other night when my tweet master put my phone number on the Internet. Wow. I got 498 texts in 31 minutes. And I got 220 phone calls. There's one text...somewhere in like Delaware...that was really mean and I called the guy. Yeah, I did. It was really mean. He said he hoped I died of cancer.

CONNELL MILLER (Bella Vista, AR) Subject: Teegarden & Van Winkle... Saw this on YouTube - These are two old friends of ours, David Teegarden on drums and Skip Knape (Van Winkle) on the B-3 Hammond. We used to have some hellacious jam sessions with them both at our big old rent house while we were in school in the early '60s. David was our drummer in the Joe Huff Band for a while. Later, he played with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band for years. Skip has been a big-time studio musician for years. (www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAWG1mJEFi0&sns=fb) I'm also attaching a photo I took of our sax man, Brian Tyree, and Teegarden, that I took at the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony in November, 2010. David's back in Tulsa and has a very successful recording studio, Natura Digital Sound. Connell

SUSAN ANDERSON (Dallas-Lancaster, TX) Subject: KRLY Radio-Houston. Jim- My family was talking about the KRLY over Christmas. We always wonder where some of our employees ended up. While I was looking up someone, I came across you site. I have not had a chance to review it, but I certainly need to catch up on it. My father was the General Manager and owner, and my brother and I both worked there. Oh, the stories we could tell! My father has passed away, but our family still talks frequently about those early days of FM Radio in Houston. I am happy to answer any questions that you may have. Thanks for all you do. Susan Anderson
HENRY ROBERTSON (Austin, TX) Subject: Rubye Bru. Jim- Rubye Bru from KVET-KASE was my Mother. I would love to read what you wrote about her, but I don’t know where in your archives to look. I recently had lunch with Bama Brown from KASE, and talked with Ron Rogers (KVET-KASE longtime GM) last year after the newspaper said he had made a hole in one playing at Austin Country Club. Please let me know how I can read about Mom, and please put me on your email list. Thank you and God Bless. Henry Robertson; Account Executive; Austin District; CORT A Berkshire Hathaway Company

DAVID FAULKNER (Dallas, TX) Subject: Death of Rick Nelson Issue 1061. Jim, I remember that. A crowd awaited his arrival in Dallas. He was to play at a KLUV New Years party. The late Ken "Hubcap" Carter was to emcee the event. News of Rick Nelson's being late for the event & then of his plane crashing was on TV as I was getting ready to drive in to KTNS where I was the overnight crew. :) & in the AM, producer for Morning Drive host Harold Baker. It would be our lead story. Best, David Faulkner
IRA [Eye] LIPSON [Dallas, TX] Subject: Radio for the Blind. Hi...For the past couple of years I’ve been volunteering at North Texas Radio For The Blind, reading the news and hosting shows along with many other former broadcasting pros. It has been fun and rewarding. I’ll bet many of your readers would like to put their skills to good use for a worthy cause. There are radio for the blind stations across Texas, and I encourage folks to contact their local station and find out how they can put a couple of extra hours to good use. Most stations broadcast on sub-carriers and their sight-impaired listeners get special radios to pick up the programming. (www.Lipsonworks.com)
TRIVIA ANSWER: Charles Manson's brutal scenes of murder in the two-part movie, Helter Skelter, broadcasts on CBS TV on April 1st and 2nd, 1976. It is one of the highest-rated two-part movies in TV network history.
JOAN PATE-DAY (Cedar Creek Lake, TX) Subject: 5:00 P.M. Thought you might enjoy seeing my fox. This is one of the five who come up each day. They love wieners. They never come at the same time. Last night a bob cat beat them to one of the treats. Wild animals seem to know us, no fear at all. When Bill plays his banjo the coyotes come up to the house and howl loudly. When he stops they stop. A grey wolf keeps his distance. as do I. This is one of the foxes out of five. They love wieners.
RUTH BROWN [R&B singer, songwriter and actress] (January 30, 1928 - November 17, 2006) A fox is a wolf who sends flowers.
