DJ DIES IN HOT TUB At 17, Jamie Cooley begins her radio career on Alternative KNRK FM (94.7) Portland, OR/Camas, WA. She rises to music director and nighttime radio personality but in 2008 KNRK FM lays her off at 33. According to the Wahkiakum County Sheriff's Office, Cooley is found unresponsive in a hot tub at her father's home in Cathlamet on Saturday morning, February 4, 2012. Paramedics attempt to revive her, but with no success. As they transport her by ambulance between Cathlamet and Longview they pronounce her dead. On Monday, Cowlitz County Coroner Tim Davidson reports that she dies of accidental drowning: There is no suspicion of foul play. A public memorial for Cooley is from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, February 10, 2012 at the popular 1980s Lola's Room at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR. (www.947.fm/)

SUPER BOWL RECEIVES SUPER RATINGS Sunday night’s Super Bowl XLVI edges out the 2011 game as the most watched U.S. TV program in history where Eli Manning and the NY Giants beat Tom Brady and the NE Patriots 21-17. The very tight game averages 111.3 million viewers vs. 111 million who tune in the face-off between the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers in January 2011. The Super Bowl game hangs onto the record for most watched TV broadcast since 2010 when the big matchup with 106.5 million viewers edges out the series finale of M*A*S*H* in 1983's total of 106 million. This means that the record, which is untouched for 27 years, is broken again by 2011's Super Bowl with 111 million and then again with Sunday night's 111.3 million. For seven consecutive years the Super Bowl audience rises.
SUPER BOWL AD RIPS OFF BUTLER During the Super Bowl, the music soundtrack in the Oikos Greek Yogurt ad that stars John Stamos sounds almost identical to the John Butler Trio 2003 hit Zebra. The Oikos ad airs during the Super Bowl to an estimated 111 million people at a cost of $3,500,000. Oikos posts a message that says: A question about the music in our Super Bowl commercial has been brought to our attention. We are working to fully understand and address the situation. We apologize for any concerns this has caused John Butler Trio’s band members and fans. John Butler’s management's answer: Thank you everyone for making us aware of the Oikos Greek yogurt TV ad that aired during the Super Bowl today featuring a song that sounds extremely similar to Zebra.

CHUCK CASHMERE (San Diego-San Marcos, CA) Hi Jim, I've missed your reports the past 6 weeks. Someone-virus-yahoo mail rearranges or something screwed up my computer and it's taken me weeks to get back to the 1st of Jan. I just read your updates and look forward to checking things out every few days. I'm hanging in there and hoping to get some action on my next release from my CD Chuck Cashmere Nashville Sessions. I do California Sun as a closer in some of my local appearances and the audiences know the song well enough to join. www.showcaseyourmusic.com/chuckcashmere5 takes you directly to the link and you can see what I mean. I start working the California stations next week. College kids get the song and might be my audience. We'll see. In the meantime take care of yourself.

DR. BRUCE NELSON [GM/AM Drive DJ KFTX FM 97.5 Retired 12/31/2010] (Corpus Christi, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#1071) February 06, 2012 [Monday] I still get letters from Bobby Langham and from time to time he'll call on Saturday mornings while listening on line to KFTX. I first heard from him in 1972 so he's been one of my listeners for 40 years. He even wrote me when I moved up to Upper Michigan for four years. I always have time for Bobby and have even sent him stamps. Nice guy!!! I guess I'll know my career is over after 53 years when a year goes by without a note from him. DrB
BOBBY LANGHAM Yes, Bobby Langham is a Houston legendary radio listener. First time that I meet Bobby is during a KNUZ-1230 remote broadcast at a large shopping center in 1978. Notice a tall guy walking toward the remote unit from a good distance away. For some strange reason I know that is Bobby Langham. He enters the remote broadcast unit and we chat for a spell. He's been a huge fan ever since. No matter which one of the dozen FM and AM frequencies here in Houston where I'm behind the mic, Langham locates me and calls on Ma Bell. Over the years he sends many letters that tell various details about other radio stations and DJs. Since I leave KILT FM for the final time in 1996 he locates my home address out here in far west Houston and sends more letters. He tells of possible radio openings for me to get back into radio. In Houston radio there is only one listener like Bobby Langham and he is that person.
BOB FORD (Houston-Galveston, TX) Subject: Bobby Langham. Whenever I ended up on a new station, and I mean EVERY move I made through the years...I would get a new "welcome" letter from Bobby. To me, it was rather heartwarming. I finally had the pleasure of meeting him at a remote somewhere...years ago. If you ever get the chance, could you please forward my email address to him? Thanks much, Bob; Bob Ford Productions, Inc. (www.bobfordproductions.com)
BILLY THORMAN (Ft. Worth, TX) Subject: Hola. Hope you're doing well. Just a note, you can hear my friend, Mr. Texas Jim Gough at http://NCHARadio.com and he sounds pretty good. Another fun listen, you might enjoy is http://ArmadilloWorldRadio.com. I think I hear your pup calling, so, I'll run. Billy T.
JIM GOUGH [Mr. Texas-actor-voice actor] (Austin-Liberty Hill, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#1069) January 30, 2011 [Monday] You know what I always say, I struck out for Dallas in 61 to find fame and fortune. I got 50 % so I guess that ain't bad! Best always Jim Gough
DAVID FAULKNER (Dallas, TX) Subject: Lynn Woolley Issue 1071. Jim & Lacy, Greetings! At first I wasn't sure, but after comparing the three network evening newscasts for several weeks, I find Scott Pelley's CBS Evening News to be the best of the bunch as well. Best, David Faulkner
TRIVIA ANSWER: The Incredible Hulk premieres on March 10, 1978. The CBS TV series is based on the Marvel Comics character. Seasoned television actor Bill Bixby plays Dr. David Bruce Banner who has an endless worldwide quest to deal with his wife's unfortunate death plus the accident that causes him to transform into the demonic green Hulk. In times of extreme anger, Banner mutates into his alter ego a huge, incredibly strong green creature that we know as The Hulk. Lou Ferrigno is the 7-foot-tall, 330 pound, green-skinned savage creature,The Hulk. The incredible TV series runs through June 2, 1982.
TONY WILLIAMS (Dallas-Richardson, TX) Jim, One of my pet peeves -- perfectly healthy people parking in handicapped spaces. And, it happens all the time everywhere. Once at a fast-food restaurant, I saw a teen zoom into a marked spot and run to the counter. So nosy Tony asked him politely if he was indeed handicapped. He admitted he wasn't, but his excuse was "I'm only going to be there for a few minutes." After a short lecture about how a handicapped person might truly need that spot "for just a few minutes", he still refused to move his car. So I told him, "Let's make a deal. You move the car, and I won't call the cops." He moved the car. He did not like it, but he did.
LARRY LUJACK [Legendary Chicago, IL radio DJ on WLS-890 and WCFL-] (June 6, 1940 to p) When buying a used car, punch the buttons on the radio. If all the stations are Rock and Roll, there's a good chance the transmission is shot.
