FORMER HOUSTON MORNING DJ UTTERS EXPLETIVE A once well-known radio name here in Houston, TX is Moby who gains fame as a PM Drive DJ on Album Rock KLOL FM (101.1) and AM Drive DJ on KSRR FM (97 Rock). He high-tails it to Atlanta, GA area as a Country DJ. Moby also places his Country radio show into syndication. He is very successful in the format flip. But, the self-syndicated radio morning personality is recently suspended indefinitely from Woman's World Broadcasting WTSH FM (South 107) in Rome, GA after he accidentally lets loose the earth-shattering words G-- damn on the air on Monday, February 13, 2012. Moby confesses to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he believes his mic is off when he blurts out curse words about the furnace being on. His shocking words cause listeners radios to shake, rattle and roll. Moby apologizes: I hated it happened. It won’t be repeated. A lesson learned. In the studio, you always have to assume the mikes are open. One thing that radio pros learn is to consider a radio studio microphone like a gun. Always assume that it is loaded.

TOM ELLIS (Boston-East Sandwich-Newton, MA) Hi, Jim and Lacy, All your work chasing news at the various radio stations in Dallas and Houston prepared you for writing and editing your JRRR news clips and summaries. You get a lot of good info into a very small space, which is the mark of a good writer/editor. My first Journalism professor at the University of Texas told us on the first day of class that if you're writing news for television, it is impossible to be too concise. That's one of the best pieces of Broadcast Journalism advice I got in almost 10 years of working my way through college during the 40's and 50's. Tom

BOB FORD (Houston-Galveston, TX) Hi Jim...Any info on what happened to Max Wolfe (KXYZ thru December of 1976)? At the tender age of 18. I had what was honestly my most dreadful experience in radio. Max was a fatherly figure...smoked a pipe (back when you could smoke in the control room)...and took me under his wing. I had just graduated high school, and working in the big market of Houston was a dream come true. I had been doing weekends and fill-in starting in August of 75 (I was attending UofH). Then, in late December...the PD at the time, Jack Daniels told me they wanted to put me on full time...overnights. But, what about Max? I was to start at the stroke of midnight, New Year's Eve 1976. While I was excited to get a shot at a full time gig, I was really torn up that they were letting Max go. And, to top it all off...I show up at 11PM...there's Max...and Jack Daniels. Max was kinda tearing up...but he packed up all his stuff and left. That was the last time I ever saw him or spoke to him. He told me not to worry about it. Jack said he couldn't get in touch with him on the phone...to can him. Needless to say, it was a rather melancholy first night of full time radio for me. Happy New Year! Goodness, what started out as a simple "subscribe" request...turned into this...sorry for rambling. Thanks much, Bob; Bob Ford Productions, Inc. (www.bobfordproductions.com

TONY WILLIAMS (Dallas-Richardson, TX) Subject: Murrow. Jim Rose Remembers Radio. Actually, Murrow did not particularly like "Person to Person".  Increasingly he thought it hurt his journalistic integrity although he conceded it was innovative. CBS executives at the time debated whether the show was entertainment or news. It was not true journalism. It was celebrity interviews for the most part much like Larry King, and Murrow's questions on "Person to Person", for the most part, were softballs like King's. Occasionally political figures such as John and Jackie Kennedy appeared when Kennedy was a senator and Fidel Castro. He was proud of "See it Now" and "Hear it Now" and his many "CBS Reports" documentaries as well as his commentaries on Sen. Joseph McCarthy. In fact, he left CBS in a dispute with William Paley over "See it Now". Charlie Rose is a great interviewer. As a journalist, he is not even in Murrow's class. Not many are.

JERRY HEILMAN (Nacogdoches, TX) Subject: debut. 103the bull is classic country (much like country legends 97.1, but with a lot more old country in the mix. 99% of everything is liners and voice tracks, so only the 6-10 a.m. gets to do a real show. I'll have to send the equipment info later as I have no clue what software, etc. they use. Thanks for the kind wishes. We'll see.

R.] Ewing, Jr. Barbara Bel Geddes is family matriarch Miss Ellie. Western film actor Jim Davis stars in his last role as Ewing patriarch Jock Ewing before he dies in 1981. The show broadcasts for thirteen seasons through May 3, 1991. Dallas is the #1 primetime series in the 1980-81, 1981-82 and 1983-84 seasons. Time magazine places Dallas on its 2007 list of 100 Best TV Shows of All-Time. Remember Dallas' cliffhanger: Who shot J.R.? TNT, Warner Brothers sister, announces a new, updated series of Dallas as a continuation of the original series that features J.R.
