ALL THE NEWS THAT IS NEWS

THE SINGING RAGE EXPIRES From the 1940s-1960s a female Pop singer is so popular she gains fame as Patti Page The Singing Rage. She is born Clara Ann Fowler on November 8, 1927 in Claremore, OK. She gets her stage name when she replaces Patti Page on a KTUL-1430 Tulsa, OK 15-minute program sponsored by Page Milk Company. In 1946, band manager Jack Rael discovers her singing on KTUL. He becomes Page's manager. She signs with Mercury Records and begins to appear in nightclubs in the Chicago, IL area. In 1947 she overdubs her own voice because she doesn't have enough money to hire backup singers. Her Tennessee Waltz is the first Pop tune to cross over as a big Country hit. It sells more than 10 million copies behind only White Christmas by Bing Crosby. Patti Page dies at 85 on New Year's Day 2013 in Encinitas, CA. Her survivors include son Daniel O'Curran, daughter Kathleen Ginn and sister Peggy Layton.

TRIVIA ANSWER: In 1969, Rock group Iron Butterfly is supposed to appear at the Woodstock Festival but an airport delay strands them and causes the group to miss the gig. They demand helicopters to get them to the concert on time but officials deny the long haired Hippy Rockers any help. Iron Butterfly could not make it through the 100 miles of traffic-choked highway from New York City to Upstate New York in time. This misfortune costs Iron Butterfly a fortune in royalties.
