DEAR ABBY BIDS FAREWELL Pauline Friedman Phillips, known to millions of readers throughout the world as Abigail van Buren in her long-running Dear Abby advice newspaper column dies of Alzheimer’s disease at 94 on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Phillips’ column which appears in 1,000 newspapers competes for decades with her twin sister Esther Friedman Lederer's Ann Landers advice column. In their early adult years, the sisters' relationship is stormy but later on they become closer. Their two newspaper columns differ in style. Ann Landers responds to questions with homey, detailed advice. While Abby often replies with flippant one-liners. Abby's response about Viagra: It’s wonderful. Men who can’t perform feel less than manly, Viagra takes them right off the spot.

NASHVILLE GUITAR BARON EXITS BROADWAY Music City's golden calf Gruhn Guitars blasts off from lower Broadway downtown to the up-and-coming Eighth Avenue South corridor. After Gruhn's Guitars arrives in downtown Nashville, TN 42 years ago, businessman George Gruhn gets fed up with the blaring noise of Nashville’s honky-tonk bars. In about five months he will move his legendary guitar store to the former Emma building at 2120 Eighth Avenue South. Gruhn says that he enjoys the close proximity of the Ryman Auditorium and Bridgestone Arena but he’s less fond of the area’s entertainment scene. The neighborhood now is halfway between a hillbilly version of Bourbon Street and Daytona Beach during spring break.

DAVID FAULKNER (Dallas, TX) Subject: Ron Chapman Update. Jim, Good to hear from you. The headline about Ron Chapman caught my attention too. He's a longtime favorite. Listened to him for years on KVIL and KLUV. Used to watch when his radio show was broadcast on the old Channel 39 (DFW) from time to time. I join many in wishing him a complete and speedy recovery. Jody Dean at KLUV posted the following on Facebook: "The latest on Ron Chapman - feeding tube out, speech much better, out of the hospital this coming week - and will continue rehab from home!" Here's a link: www.facebook.com/david.faulkner.92?ref=tn_tnmn#!/photo.php?fbid=10151679070974152&set=a.64493139151.91125.650279151&type=1&theater. Best to you and Lacy, David Faulkner; Dallas, TX

JEROME DAVIS (Dallas-Colleyville
, TX)
Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#1165) January 18, 2013 [Friday] Hi Jim, Sorry to hear about Jimmy O'Neill. Jimmy was a very talented guy. I knew him much earlier than his radio career. He and I were in a professional boys choir, the Apollo Boys Choir which was headquartered in Palm Beach, Florida. That was in the mid-50's. I was in the choir for just two years, but I think Jimmy was there for three or four. Jimmy was also a very talented piano player. The choir had summer camps in North Carolina, and would have talent time. Jimmy did one of the best ever impressions of Liberace. Jerome Davis, Colleyville, Texas

JIM BELL [KUHF FM 88.7 Morning Edition anchor since 1997-Retired 2010] (Lufkin, TX) Subject: Legendary DJ Passes On. Dear Jim, Horace Logan, the founder and longtime producer of the Louisiana Hayride, has his own place in Elvis lore because of something he said. Elvis's final Hayride show was in a large hall at the Shreveport Fairgrounds. After his last encore, the crowd of ten thousand teenagers headed for the exits, to the dismay of Logan and the other singers who were waiting to perform. Logan went to the microphone and pleaded "Please - young people - Elvis has left the building...He has gotten in his car and driven away

Many of Little Richard's tunes contain confusing sexual references like in Long Tall Sally's line she's built for speed. A television censor once complains: How can I reject it when I can't even understand it? Little Richard promotes female sexuality in his songs like She's Got It, The Girl Can't Help It, and True, Fine Mama.

JERRY HEILMAN [KJCS FM] (Nacogdoches, TX) Subject: request. I need to get a msg to Jim Bell, an occasional poster on JRRR. I need him to call me or send me his email address. I am at 936-221-1141. I would appreciate it if you could help me out on this. Keep up the good work, Jim.
