LOVE ROLLERCOASTER COMES TO A HALT During the mid 1970s, the Ohio Players roll out several great R&B tunes that we spin on KFJZ-1270 and KXOL-1360 like Skin Tight (#13-1974), Fire (#1-1974/75) and Love Rollercoaster (#1 1975/76). SUPER BOWL XLVII IS HERE! Last year’s Super Bowl draws in a record breaking 111.3 million viewers. Sunday’s Super Bowl XLVII face-off between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens is where the action is. This year CBS TV antes up the price for a 30 second ad from $3.5 million that NBC TV charges during the last Super Bowl to $4 million. That's $133,333 per word! Movie makers Disney, Universal and Paramount step up to the plate with ad space for this year's big game for their films Iron Man 3, The Fast And The Furious 6 and The Lone Ranger. Not to be outdone, Chrysler, Tide, Best Buy, Coke, Taco Bell, Lincoln (the car company not the movie), and RIM, which premiers its new BlackBerry 10 are among the non-Hollywood companies with Super Bowl spots.
PALIN MAKES A MILLION Starting in 2010 former Alaska governor/VP candidate Sarah Palin reportedly earns $1M annually for her appearances on Fox cable TV. She makes 151 visits which are about one per week. She speaks more than 189,000 words which is $15.85 per word. According to Smart Politics, President Obama is the topic most often brought up with 786 mentions. This compares to only 41 for Ronald Reagan. Recently, Palin ends her Fox TV relationship. If applied to JRRR, each issue contains from about 1550 to 1650 words. At 1550 words that's about $2456 per issue for $4912 per week. That's about $21,285 per month. Lacy and I could live very well with that pay structure.

[Gentleman] JIM CARTER [ex KTSA-550, KONO-860] (San Antonio, TX) Subject: Jim Rose Remembers Radio (#1168) January 28, 2013 [Monday] Hi Jimbo: Sorry to hear about Ron Chapman but glad he's on the mend. Enough can never be said about this great man. He almost hired me to do 7-midnight back in the 70's but he wanted me to change my name because we had a President by the same name at that time. Ron took me to lunch to discuss all this and then out to his home. Eventually I turned him down because I didn't want to change my air name. So Ron hired Cat Simon from KLIF instead. And the beat goes on...GJC

LESLIE WAYNE HODGES (Marshall, TX) Subject: Doug Brown, KTRK KWTX KBTX. Doug was born and grew up in the Central Texas city of Brady. Doug Brown I watched in the early 1960's on KWTX 10 in Waco and KBTX 3 in Bryan. We lived on the Cameron Highway northwest of Hearne. One afternoon my Mom yells out the door to my Dad saying "Doug Brown says a storm is coming". I felt like Doug Brown is part of our family right then. Seeing how happy Doug is on Television and to hear Doug do his mid day music show on KWTX AM in Waco I said I want to be like that and I can do this. When I landed on KNEL 1490 and KIXV in Brady 1993 I called Doug and recorded a phone interview with him as KNEL 1490 in Brady is where Doug was I believe was first on the air and born in Brady Texas. Leslie Wayne Hodges
